@@Charlie6969 Well, I wouldn't try to change the overall character of an unsuitable amp with a tube swap. After finding pickups I like and speakers that compliment my amp and playing style, I was amazed at the difference rolling some tubes made to an already decent rig. That has been my personal experience. Playing through a Bad Cat Cougar 50, I found the clean channel a little bland until I swapped in a Sylvania long plate in V1. It gave that channel the sparkling highs I was looking for without sounding too thin. The B side of that tube is the first gain stage on the gain channel. It made the gain channel a bit bright with a ton of gain. A Jan Philips 5751 in the V2 socket fixed that and it sounds amazing. A Mullard reissue 12ax7 in the PI was the icing on the cake. The difference is huge, especially from a players perspective in terms of responsiveness. I like the amp to be on the edge of being a bit unforgiving, which forces me to play better, but when I do, I can really pull out it's tone. It's like a cranked Plexi on the gain channel at low volumes, but with extra gain on top. For speakers I'm using two V-30's and two Creamback 75's in the same cabinet (a Marshall 1960B). I like the sound of this cab better than my greenback loaded 2x12, but that is a matter of preference.
I know you said you got rid of the scab, but I feel like the EVH cab was really trouble heavy, which was why I sold it but I was actually looking to buy this cab.
Wait, so you sold it because it was too heavy or you were having too much trouble with it? I apologize. I just didn't understand what you were asking😂. You would think I could make an informed opinion here but I can't because unless I had them side-by-side I don't know which one I would like better
I have the same amp for about 2 years, I have an Orange 2 x 12 cab and it sounds so bad with it. I don’t why. I’ve kid off stopped using it for the same reason. Not sure if the cab doesn’t match it.
How an amp head "sounds" through a particular cab, is subjective I believe. I had the matching peavey 2x12 cabinet in this video (I've since gotten rid of this set-up and bought an EVH Stealth and EL34 2x12 cab) and it sounded okay. But like I said about subjectivity, in MY opinion, this was just too thin sounding.
Dude that’s my same problem with an EVH LBX 1, orange 1x12. The amp has a mid character that doesn’t match the cab and it can’t be dial off. I’ve played that cab with a Tiny Terror and it sounded awesome.
Hey sorry I don't get on here too often but yes the cabinet is great I ended up with an evh cabinet and I have not had any problems with it and it sounds a little heavier than this one. But that's what I was going for. I wanted more Bass thinking of getting rid of the evh cab and getting a Mesa Boogie or an ENGL cab.
