    This is essentially a Moka pot in a new design. The design details do sounds like it’s nicer to use.

      I think that’s a fair description. I think the heat control internally with the heat sink is clever too

      Wish it could brew 25-30g like my larger moka pot

      oh yeah, don't mind the 180 dollar price tag for the Moka pot, though it seems really premium, and the design is really unique and stylish.

    You actually do a better job of walking us through what it's like to use this for the first time. I just tried mine today, and initially made a total mess! It was helpful to hear you acknowledge it takes a little bit to get the hang of it. And I love the idea of preheating the water in the kettle. Glad to have found your channel!

    Great video Eddie.
    Just wanted to say that the content you create is phenomenal. I randomly stumbled upon your channel and was blown away. Looking forward to your next video.

    It's a modified Moka Pot that seems a bit easier to clean and provides a more aesthetic brewing experience. I wonder if they plan to release a borosilicate glass bowl so you can see the coffee draining down the sides of the cone.

    This would be so perfect for my single-drinker lifestyle and saving grounds for garden compost would be a snap.

      Yeah it really is great for a high quality, one person coffee with only compostable waste. Really clever design

    Thanks for posting this! I was also an early backer of this project and have been enjoying it for many of the reasons you mention. For those asking, I do prefer coffee from an Orb One over a Bialetti; I’d describe it as slightly more viscous/oily, and I find that more of the subtler flavors you get from good beans shine through. My guess is that the heat sink is the main part that’s responsible for the difference, leading to better extraction. I also find the Orb One easier to clean. It’s a good product, even though there are many cheaper competitors that do 90% the same thing. Also, this video is a really great overview - probably even more helpful than Crucial Detail’s own website! 😂

      Thanks so much for the comment, yeah I agree with all of that, I think the heat sink is the least 'visible' part of the coffee maker but its clearly making a lot of difference to the end result flavour and texture. Thanks and I hope you keep getting loads of great use out of yours too

    Its a moka pot, but a cool moka pot and i definitely want one. I love the build quality and design as well as the features like the heat sink and the ability to easily pour the coffee once it's finished. This video was also a very good showcase on how to operate the coffee maker.

      @@EddieShepherd I definitely do, I got also an espresso machine, but for a “quick” coffee the Orb has become my go to coffee maker. I’m still playing around with the grind sizes and heat. I was lucky enough to receive the uncoated anodized aluminum top, but your gray model looks wonderful too!
      Happy brewing 🍀☕️

    Does the Orb make enough coffee for my wife and I to split the output and make 2 cappuccino-style drinks of 6-8 ounces each including the frothed milk?

    With the bottom preheated, how big of a risk will your hand get scalded?

    • @EddieShepherd
      @EddieShepherd  7 месяцев назад +1

      I find it easiest to pour in hot water from the kettle rather than heat it from cold on the hob.
      I’ve never felt and particular risk of burning myself with it, no more than any other coffee maker / method

    How would you say the quality of coffee produced compares to the aeropress (if you've tried it)?

      I havnt used an aero press in a few years I'm afraid so its hard for me to compare. I do think this makes great coffee though

    It’s a very expensive moka pot without a crema at all. Actually if you spend a 100$ more you can get an real espresso machine. For me any moka pot is good only if there is electricity shortage, I can use it on my gas stove. Well it is beautiful

    • @michaelharris1774
      @michaelharris1774 9 месяцев назад

      I’m a kickstarter backer too and have been impressed with Crucial Detail’s ingenuity and product. It is like a moka pot in as much as water boils in the base, but the Orb One really excels at making a delicious and clean cup of coffee. It’s also quite versatile in allowing adjustment of grind, water volume and to a lesser extent heat/time to get your perfect cup. Much better coffee than than the Americanos I’ve tried to make with moka pot coffee before. Of course stronger ‘medium’ coffees and ‘short’ near espresso can also be made with the Orb.

    So filter cant be remove ? That is super huge minus in my book..

    • @EddieShepherd
      @EddieShepherd  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah the filter is a machined part built in. I liked it and found it easy to clean, but each to their own

  • @cubsfan708
    @cubsfan708 11 месяцев назад +3

    So this is basically just a more expensive moka pot

    • @EddieShepherd
      @EddieShepherd  11 месяцев назад +6

      Well it’s the same basic principle but with clever internal heat management and unique design & shape which has its own set of benefits.
      I thought of it a bit like iPhones, there are other cheaper phones that can do a lot of the same things, but then there are some specific features and design elements that make iPhones more desirable for some people. To me this is a bit like that, more expensive but better designed

      @@EddieShepherd The phone with a proprietary usb 2.0 input in 2023? Kinda proves your point right there, you're paying for looks and little substance.

    • @EddieShepherd
      @EddieShepherd  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@peepeepoopoo-x6h well I dont think thats the case, there's other things to design other than just looks, as I mention in the video there's things like the heat control, materials, practicality, functionality etc etc. Maybe phones is a bad example but there's tons of things in life where of course you can get the cheapest version and it will work, or you can get something more designed that uses better materials and it will be more expensive but maybe a better experience - for some people that will be worth it, for some people it wont. No judgement either way and I'm not sponsored or selling these, just sharing my experience with mine and maybe that helps people see if its of interest to them or not.
