    Big fan from the USA. Been to London and on the Underground since I was 10 in 1960. Learned the per-decimal currency by buying Tube tickets from the clerk. Thanks for everything. Hope to get back next year.

    After watching many of these, today I got to 'nerd out' at the LT museum and go to st Pancras, Leicester Square, Holborn and Covent Garden, of which I climbed all the steps just to see the original, crazed tiles👌I also saw a maze to the left of the escalator on the way down into Leicester Square station and thoroughly enjoyed the Leslie Green designed exteriours on both Covent Garden and Leicester Square stations.🤓 🚉 🔔 Thanks for all being so informative. 👍 👏

    Loved this one, but it also brought back memories. My first trip from the US to London 23 years ago I had been riding the underground for a week and had become quite smug about it. Then the night before I had to fly home I decided to go out in Leicester Square. Boy was I surprised when i found the station gate locked on my way home. Of all of my friends and coworkers who taught me the system, no one told me it shuts down at night. (They run 24x7 in Chicago.) I had a very expensive 50 Pound black taxi ride from Leicester Square to my hotel at South Kensington, and didn't quite feel so smug anymore. 😒

    When my wife and I went to London last year, we used Leicester Square station a number of times. Mainly because we went to Chinatown several times and it was the closest station. We did go to Chinatown via the new Elizabeth line station at Tottenham Court road, but preferred Leicester Square more.

    A great episode. Always good to see all the hidden spaces that we all just walk past never knowing they are there.
    Didn’t realise clocks were synchronised from Leicester Square, great fact.
    As an aside seeing you open the vent access panel bought to mind a work episode where it all went wrong.
    I was working on an air plant and had an access panel open, as I reached in the air sucked the panel closed and smashed the Casio G-Shock watch I was wearing!😂

    Enjoyed this episode,
    I knew Piccadilly Circus had double spiral staircases for each line as each line had separate Lifts and the Piccadilly and the Bakerloo lower lift shaft were on different levels, I was a bit surprised that the Piccadilly and the Hampstead (now the Northern line) at Leicester Square had double spiral staircases as both lines shared the 5 lifts, were at this station took them down to the same level from which one set of passageways lead up to the Hampstead line platforms and another set lead down to the Piccadilly line platforms,
    Those platforms to lift passageways were closed in 1935 when escalators replaced the lifts and was partly reopened in 1948 as an interchange relief between the two line, it also seems to be a quicker walk between the two lines than the one that opened in 1935 after escalator conversion

    A station that I love! I have been there far too often, enjoying the surrounding theatres, restaurants & pubs. I always find something else inside the station when I come in & out of its various entrances. I hope to be there again very soon.

    I love how they bang on about people taking the tiles, and that they should be left for people to see. Yet they did the same thing in an official capacity and flogged them off on their store. So much for preserving history.

    The comments about perception of depth on the escalators is absolutely a thing - we have a set on the Peachtree Center MARTA station here in Atlanta that are 190ft in length. The vertigo you can get looking down the incline tube can seriously be a thing.
    Incidentally it's not the longest escalator in the city, that one is inside CNN Center in its atrium.

    Looking forward to this episode. Picking up a query from a viewer a few weeks back, about a 'Follow the lights' sign: I was at the Museum yesterday and found there's an example of exactly such a thing in the 'Design' section. It dates from around 1950. I would post a photo here if YT would let me!

    There was a double helix stairs on the TV programs at a war shelter.
    Tamworth Church has a double helix that open up a few times a year, usually around heritage open days. You go up one stair case and come back down the other one door at the bottom is is inside, one outside. You can see both at the top. The bell tower is only accessible off one side.

    I can't take it anymore!
    I am hereby outing myself thusly:
    I don't give a stuff for posters and
    I couldn't care less about tiles neiva.
    They're pretty, interesting and generally diverting but it's the sheer test of engineering ingenuity that is the tremendous task of tunneling through the tulips, no, through the unknown that is the earth beneath our feet which inspires me.
    I've had to be quite picky about which tours I've been lucky enough to go on as a result, but am now what they call conflicted.
    I'd really love to do Euston because of all the interconnections there. Does anyone know if you can do a posterless tour of the amazing maze that is UndergrounD Euston?
    If not, why not?
    I reckon that all potential revenue streams need to be explored and I offer this 'un as a suggestion and in lieu of this week's sub. If I may.
    As an aside, that fan housing is enormous (38:00). Somehow the set up at Piccadilly Circus still whirrs around my brain. After the musty dusty passageways to the former lift shafts, seeing into one now used for ventilation, the height and width of the shaft was truly unbelievable.
    Then I saw the fan. It was as big as a house and suddenly I felt the need to reach for my sidearm because it got all Bond Villain torture chamber.
    Worth every penny spent. On the ticket and the dry cleaning too. Brilliant.

    Looking at that cut-away diagram, I'm wondering about all these sites - what did they do with all the dug-out earth? How did they get it up to street level & where did they dump it all ? There must have been colossal amounts !

    Theatre adjacent to station - Wyndhams Theatre, production advertised as starring Diana Wynyard, who played the lead in the original, British, version of the film Gaslight (remade in Hollywood four years later with Ingrid Bergman in the leading role).

    Oh yes you guys said you were going to measure between covenant garage and Leicester Square to see if was the nearest stations also the other two stations to see which stations were the closest need to know …….. get your measuring wheel out. 🙂👍🏻

    I needed to know why don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the unused abandoned underground stations.
    Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock and that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers.
    A Stock Trains and also having 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it more bigger and extend it to bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Train tunnel into a High Speed train?
    The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Train line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 37 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project that is OK for London Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden.
    oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden Easily.
    Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street and also make another brand new tunnel train stations in Chingford could they extend the DLR?
    All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains.
    Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and they can order Every 17 Octagon and Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique minor no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 117MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 117MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 16 Tonnes for all of the 117MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are Told!! And please do something about these very important Professional ideas Please Prime Minister of England, the Prime Minister of Sweden, the Prime Minister of Germany, the Prime Minister of Italy, the Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.

    Hello all. Brill work as usual. As someone who lives up in Lancashire this is the next best thing to being able to go and visit. Got one question regarding that clock. As it covers Camden Town to Morden, we are talking about the Northern line if one thinks rightly. Would that be both Bank and Charing X's branches and also if it still works would it extend to Battersea or are all clocks now centralised. Regards, Aaron Read, Cleveleys.

      That kit you saw is pretty much defunct although it won’t have its power turned off in case something does run off it! Not sure how much of that section ran off that master clock but I do remember seeing the diagram showing the Charing X branch. Can’t recall the Bank branch.

      @@alexgrundon2346 Thanks for confirming that it runs or ran or runs the Charing X branch. Probably it was something so insignificant that updating whatever it is to modern tech was so small for investing that it is a classic thing of "leave it in place but keep it running".

    A question for you: why is there a reverse swastika in the floor design at Upminster Bridge station? Surely this should have been removed at some point since the Second World War, bearing in mind it's connections?

      I think Leicester Square Piccadilly escalators has a vertical rise of around 80 ft
