Another Day! I came across your channel in 2019 when I decided to go from anthropology to UX. Your channel is one reason I graduated with my masters in hci/ux in 2023! I now work at a tech consulting firm in the creative technology department. UX Research is a great foundation for UX Strategy. Thank you so much for your knowledge and passion. I always refer people to your channel when they ask me about being a UXR!
Great to have you back with another banger, Kevin! I’m so optimistic for the future of UXR, but it is more important than ever as a field to uplift each other right now.
Welcome back! Thanks for helping me back before you started this channel. I've been a researcher for 4 years now. It's been one hell of a ride. I love this job (even though it's so frustrating at times), but I'm holding tight and waiting for the economy to get better. I hope 2025 will be better.
The job market is so bad right now. I’m currently laid off but luckily found a part time UXR role with an amazing team and it pays half of my full time salary. So I’m doing alright financially but I know there are others who aren’t so lucky. We’ll get through it, guys! Keep growing and learning. We’re all gonna land our dream role one day.
Welcome back Kevin! You are right, the job market is really tough these days. Like Gary Vee says: "Quit overthinking. Start Doing shit." In other words, get the work experience and education now, to be job-ready in the future.
I'm at a crossroad. I want to learn uxr but like you said, it's not easy now. So i'm contemplating learning a different skill concurrently, as a back up plan. But that is a recipe for burnout. I know UXR is worth it even when the companies are rushing to get rid of the roles. Do you think that we need to look at UXR beyond Tech products? If so, how do we influence non-Tech companies to create a job for UXR?
That's a GREAT question!! How Joseph Pine describes it in his book (I'm paraphrasing) is they are distinctly different in value adds. Here's a Harvard Business review article by Pine who describes it more in depth! hbr.org/1998/07/welcome-to-the-experience-economy In short, I like to think simply of The Service Economy as "the customer receives a service", namely, transactional. The Experience Economy is more "the customer gets to be part of the experience", more experiential.
@@shashikay I know!! It's rough right now. but I think that's a good approach, skill up mindfully (at your own pace), and i think no matter what you do, you're going to be a stronger, smarter, person!
