Long before Pachpadra in Barmer came to be known for a huge refinery - HPCL-Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL), it was known for the Pachpadra Salt it produced. The salt here is produced in shallow trenches by people of Kharwal community. Barmer-Jaisalmer is seeing a direct contest between BJP's Kailash Chaudhary and Congress' Manavendra Singh Jasole, son of estranged senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh.
