    HI. I am 59 and have had 3 spinal fusions with screws and plates. I am trying to rehab and lose weight. I started lap swimming and recently saw your videos and have had added your jog and exercises to my routine! It is a great idea to kick your routine up a notch! I can say that these exercises have added a whole new dimension to my routine. I have dropped 21 lbs and 2 sizes. I cut out bad carbohydrates and my blood sugar is great! If you have joint problems or want to be challenged without injury, use a pool! This channel has been a great motivation. Do yourself a favor and feel great! Thanks y'all and God bless!

    • @WaterExerciseCoach

      Corina, flotation belts are typically used for vertical water exercise rather than swimming. Depending on the amount of flotation backstroke with the arms might be difficult. You can certainly give it a try and see how it works for you!

    What type of watch would you recommend to track calories burned with these exercises? I have a Fitbit Versa 2, but I am afraid to keep my hand under water for too long for fear that it will damage my watch (although the instructions state that it can be used for swim tracking).

    • @WaterExerciseCoach
      @WaterExerciseCoach  2 года назад +3

      Fitness trackers provide generalized information. For water I recommend monitoring your work effort using rating of perceived exertion. It's well documented this subjective measure of work effort correlates strongly to objective measures. Try moving through variable levels of intensity: light (feels easy), moderate (heart rate and breathing elevated), vigorous (talking is no longer an option). When you do intervals this is the best way to burn calories.

    What is the best water depth for doing these exercises? I was told water should hit at about the level of your underarms. Or should it be at your waist? I'm putting in a small therapy pool and don't know if water level should be 3' or 3.5'. I'm 5' tall. Will appreciate your help.

    • @WaterExerciseCoach
      @WaterExerciseCoach  2 года назад

      Hi Carolyn, Shallow-water exercise is typically performed at level of underarms yes! Waist deep will feel much like land-based exercise. If you are building a pool, you should reach out to the Build a Pool experts. Total Aquatic Programming for information you'll want to know before you start building. totalaquatic.llc/

    Hi. This seems to be very good and nice exercises. But i have to ask, do you think it would work in a pool that is only 1 meter deep?

    • @WaterExerciseCoach
      @WaterExerciseCoach  11 месяцев назад +1

      Great question! Shallow water exercise is normally suggested at chest deep water so it depends on the height of the individual. These same moves could be done as a "march" if the water is too shallow for jogging.

    I love this! I am going to try this! If I were to walk/jog for 30 minutes in the pool everyday is that an equivalent workout to if I were to walk/jog for 30 minutes on dry ground?

    • @WaterExerciseCoach
      @WaterExerciseCoach  4 года назад +2

      Jazzie thanks for following along! Results in water exercise will vary as there are many factors. One of the keys to results is intensity. Best to warm-up and see if you can identify 3 training intensities. Easy (like you were out of an easy paced walk on land). Moderate (heart rate and breathing rate increased) and Vigorous (by this point you are breathing hard as this is a challenging effort). In your 30 minute workout try to work through these variable intensities. Make sure you start and finish your workout with 5-minutes easy pace. That is the best way to a 30-minute water walk/run workout with great results!

      I've been jogging in place in the pool for about a month now. I feel a noticeable difference, especially in my backside and hips. My posture has improved and my legs feel like rocks. Again, this is only after 30 days. Though, I do 60 minutes (not 30) a-day, 7 days a week. I'm really enjoying it and seeing the results after month one.

      Vanita, always listen to your body and move in a range that is pain free. You might want to try deep water with a flotation belt so that you have no impact and can focus on mobility and gentle strengthening.

    How does one get certified to do water fitness: water walking, deep water running and exercises. I am interested in getting certified in this. I used water walking, deep water running and my PT exercises in the water as soon as I was allowed in water after knee replacement surgery. I would love to teach people to do the same but not a set to music class format. I envision session to get them to point they can continue on their own.

    i'm 65 years old and had two very successful hip replacements last year. would this be a good way for me to exercise and lose weight? i have a pool in my back yard for summer (we're in the northeast of US). what advantage would it be for me to get an aquajogger or another device?

    • @WaterExerciseCoach
      @WaterExerciseCoach  4 года назад +2

      Hi Dawn, the pool is a great place to exercise and get stronger after joint replacement. A belt is suggested for deep water and webbed gloves will help engage the core. I recommend and use HYDROFIT: www.hydrofit.com/water-exercise/ Try jogging using some of the options in the video. Then pick your favorite one and jog at an intensity of: light (10 seconds) moderate (10 seconds) vigorous (10 seconds). This is a simple interval pattern sure to ramp up your metabolism! Let me know how you do.

I'd suggest trying one or two of the foot positions and see how your body feels. If all good, add another one to your routine. Always move in a range that feels good.

      @@ninasikand985 When exercising in shallow water shoes can provide several benefits. A few include: In chest deep, you are 30% weight bearing, shoes can help decrease joint stress.
