- In this episode of 23 Stories, presented by Volkswagen, U.S. WNT midfielder Morgan Brian speaks about one of her favorite things -- pick-up soccer -- and how it played a big part in her soccer and life path, which featured some adversity she had to navigate over the past few years to make her second Women's World Cup Team.

With these stories, you can't feel bad about her getting the spot xD. They all deserve it regardless of who thinks they deserve it more or not. Now all we can do is cheer them and hope they can demonstrate why they are the best backups you can have xD. I also hope she'll get there and be good when they need her the most.
I have mixed feelings about her making the team, but I still am rooting for her 100%. At her best she really is amazing, and she’s had the worst luck with injuries. I hope she can get back to her top form one day-she’s still pretty young and has time. And on top of that she’s a wonderful person.
SimmonsGranger i definitely agree but regardless of her form, she’s definitely one of the smartest players on the field with incredible vision. That’s not something that’s easy to come around even at the highest level like the USWNT. So I’d agree she may not bee at her best right now, but just her soccer IQ adds a depth in the midfield that i think the team could always use
She was smart enough in college to make the right plays in MF but now it’s not just pros it’s the best of the best and she just doesn’t impact the games like others can. She’s 100% worth the investment because she’s young(of training and caps etc) but this is how other players get left off the roster that may be more capable and want it more. If Jill or US Soccer says “Hey take a couple years to figure this out, we think you’ll be great” it creates a comfort zone that doesn’t reward or encourage growth. Imagine a young Abby Wombach who is told “Hey don’t worry about Mia or Lilly just develop over the course of a couple seasons”...
No, they develop because they want to be as good or better than the best and Mo has shown she’s not really that type of person who strives for greatness like we’ve seen.
Ask yourself this, “Does Mo Brian want to be the best as much as Carli Lloyd?” and the answer is clearly no. We’ve seen enough match play from her and it’s time we move on.

I agree with you to an extent. I don’t think she should’ve made the team over Zerboni (and I don’t even like Zerboni). But she has a special place in my heart, so I will continue to root for her. Maybe one day she will be at her best again. Or maybe not. You’re right, you can’t just keep her around hoping she’ll be 100% again. I think post-world cup will be a time where she really has to prove herself in order to stick around since the Olympic team is smaller
I’m happy you support and like Mo Brian and that you know the word “audacity”, but otherwise you’re wrong.
I didn’t say she couldn’t compete at the pro or national level, I said there were better options and that she doesn’t impact games(as much as the hype around her would suggest).
The defense was the main reason they won the last World Cup as well as the change in tactics, namely that they became super aggressive and basically blitzed their way to victory(I think it was the China game they completely pushed forward and played the whole match in China’s half then Jill Ellis just continued to let them loose).
You get these seasoned vets like Rapinoe and Lloyd and let them push forward with fast hustlers like O’Hara Tobin etc and the rest of world eventually gets too tired.
Heck even though Julie Johnson/Ertz should have gotten a red card when she pulled down the Germany player they missed the first PK in their World Cup history because they were so tired.
So as good a player as Brian is, she was definitely not the main reasons the team did so well last World Cup.
Seattle’s midfield from the NWSL in their heyday would have ran circles around a Cheney/Holiday Mo Brian midfield and again they’re just a pro team.
So again, players that are marketable like Brian and even Alex Morgan get free passes to just exist on the national team roster and it’s not beneficial to the team’s competitiveness.
I’m so happy to see the new faces on this roster and excited to see them compete in a few weeks.
I will add that yes in their heyday the Seattle midfield was composed of good international players and I shouldn’t have called them “just a pro team”.
Morgan will get her chance. She is the Future of USWNT.
Thanks.........alot, thank you.....etc

@@HotWheelsHighlights Yeah, but she pronounced it "Fabreeze." If I knew a Fabrice I would do him the favor of saying it correctly... doubly so if he were my husband. Weird that she doesn't.
