I'm now a retired trucker. I've been to Flagstaff in the winter and there was snow on the ground but what's amazing is that it was a dry cold so I couldn't feel the cold temperature too much.
I just got back home to Alaska after visiting my grandmother in Wickenburg for the Fourth of July. At first glance it just seems like a really cool historic mining and cowboy town, but there’s a very genuine sense of small town community there. They had a large firework show and carnival type event at the ball parks with a nice classic car show. And if you’re looking for some of the best barbecue you’ll find anywhere the Ornery Hog was unbelievably delicious. The Wickenburg Ranch Golf Social Club was absolutely gorgeous also, had a lot of fun playing there. My grandma was saying they have pretty much nonstop rodeos throughout the winter too.
Just bought a 40acre place 22 miles outside of St John's in Apache county, Quiet beautiful high semi arid with all kinds of wild animals and free range cattle. A peaceful private slice of heaven.
My wife and I bought 2.4 acres in Taylor. Looked at the 40 acre lots near St John but it was too far out for us. Plan on moving out there in two years.
@@dsg325 we had a rough winter this year. We got feet of snow but thankfully it doesn't hang around to long. You drove right pasty Winslow's best attraction. The old Santa Fe Harvey House hotel called La Posada. It has been restored to excellent condition and opened as a hotel. Well worth a visit. Very beautiful.
Nice video BUT you missed the highlight of Winslow: the La Posada hotel. It is an old Santa Fe railroad Harvey House hotel whose architect was Mary Colter. It is one of the best remaining (if not the best) Harvey House hotels in existence. You must stay at least one night and also eat at the hotel restaurant (The Turquoise Room) which has excellent food. While there you should get into the Harvey House history which is intertwined with rich history of railroading in the southwest including the Grand Canyon and the Lodge at the south rim (El Tovar Hotel).
First time catching you on ut. You have hit many of my favorite stops. I’m a snowbird the last 14 years. AZ is a treasure. I’m glad you included Crown King. It is worth the long slow trek to get there. I’m getting a lot of birthdays behind me so I’m slowing down a bit, but if possible we want to make it to Quartzsite again this Jan. depending on many factors facing us now. It has been a fun part of our adventures as there is nowhere else quiet like it. Thanks for the effort. I enjoyed it very much. I’m from SEast MO so it’s a world away in so many ways.
Great video! However I really would recommend Winslow's La Posada Hotel. It's a restored Harvey House Railway Hotel and they have done a fabulous job. Great place and great food! Thanks again

I grew up in Wickenburg and lived in Cottonwood for a time. Hardly recognized Wickenburg from the video, it's been years since I've been there. Love them both! Worked in Sedona and found the people quite snobby. Lived in Snowflake and hated it. But Prescott is my favorite! Hoping to retire there in a few years
Lived in E Mesa at the border of Apache Junction for 2 yrs and loved it. Would love to move back. Wish I'd had the money and a road trip partner to travel to all these places. But did visit Sedona, Tombstone, Tucson, Williams, and Greer. And a few others.
Wickenburg was a stop along the Santa Fe Railroad “Hassayumpa Flyer” between Phoenix and Williams Junction where it connected with the Mainline of the Super Chief from LA to Chicago. Now it’s BNSF.

I was raised in Eagar, just a stone's throw from Greer. We often went fishing in Greer. We were told that we lived in "Northern Ariz." and I believed it until, as an adult, I looked more closely at a map. It is Eastern Arizona as far East as you can get without being in New Mexico, pretty much due east of Phoenix and halfway down the state. We thought that the Gila valley was Eastern Ariz, but they are south east. We are due east. There is another "Black Mountain" near Yuma. On the subject of coldest place in the lower 48, I recall in the winter of about '63 or 64 we had a cold winter. We used to watch the weather reports on TV to see whether Maverick, AZ would be colder than Fargo, ND as the coldest place in the lower 48.

Great video, Jeff! I arrived in Prescott a couple days ago, and planning to visit Jerome/Cottonwood tomorrow, and Sedona on Monday. Been a bit warmer than usual up here for late September. But it is gorgeous.
Alpine az is about a 1,000 feet higher in elevation. Greer is extremely busy in the summer. Great place to hang out during the monsoons. Theres a natural spring in greer! Its sooo cool.
