The sperm carrying Y are faster and slightly more plentiful than the sperm carrying X. If a sperm carrying Y fertilizes the ovum, the embryo will be male (YX). (The ovum always carries an X itself.) If the sperm carrying X fertilizes the ovum, the embryo will be female (XX). In live births, the number of male babies born is greater than the number of female babies born. However, females tend to die less frequently during childhood than males. Thus by the time the babies grow up and sexually mature, the number of male and female adults is approximately equal. The Communist Chinese used to permit their citizens to have only one child. What happened is that China ended up with way more males than females because female fetuses were being aborted. They have since changed their policy to allow couples to have two children if the first child is female. They probably still have an imbalance but it is less than it used to be in the old days.
Another odd thing the Communist party did in China initially was to order all citizens to kill 50 flies per day. That law was rescinded when they realized that the bird population was being negatively effected by the lack of flies.

It is so stupid that there are still people that blame the wife/DIL for not having a boy when we have known for over 100 years now that the sex of the child is determined by the man's sperm. I don't see what's wrong with having daughters anyway, I have both and certainly have never treated my sons like they are in any way better than their sisters.

@@JustinAdamson270 Perhaps you've wondered which parent determines the gender of the child? It takes two to tango, but scientifically, it only takes the sperm to determine the baby's sex. The egg will always have an X chromosome, so it's up to the sperm to decide.

@@JustinAdamson270 the latest research on it that could find does say an egg has an X chromosome but we only release one egg while men swimmers are a higher count and will have either x or y. An egg only has the X. So ultimately the swimmer determines the gender. Even though we give half of that.
