My Friendly Neighborhood is definitely a refreshing perspective on mascot horror. The puppets just be influenced by what they see on television and only just wanting to show good behavior is such an interesting concept too…As simple as it is, more horror games should definitely take note of the entirely new take this game provides. I honestly love MFN so much. you can tell that theres just so much care and love for the project that the devs put into their work. its more than just horror, the game carries a genuine message and the story is so unique for what it is.
My Friendly Neighborhood is proof that a game actually made from a real aspect of childhood affection, in this case growing up with Jim Henson properties like Sesame Street and The Muppets and Resident Evil Games; more accurately creates a property that believably would be marketed towards and be loved by children than simply throwing a dart on a board of known brands to shape a derivative monster to chase you by. The puppets are just alive because that's the methodology of how People were always supposed to interact with Henson's Puppets since they first hit the screen together in the 60s-70s. The weapons feel accurate to the same maniac energy that would create Crazy Harry to just giggle as he blows things up to make felt fly, as well as follow the story narrative of how the handlers from the get-go weren't being the best stewards for the impressionable nature of the Neighbors by randomly inflicting violence on them for stress relief. No part of this digital buffalo is left to waste nor spoiled by chasing the same tired marketing schemes this genre seems cursed by. And god is it still refreshing to think they have a comfortable narrative conclusion that only makes you, the player, want more because you like the characters instead of nakedly broadcasting My Friendly Neighborhood 2, 3 and 4 as soon as the game boots. I hope Ducky/John Szymanski is doing great and possibly thinking of their next game, MFN or otherwise.
I really like The Chicken Mode. It adds a further layer of both hope and tragedy if Gordon was also a Puppet, but one that... never even got to be in the show at all before being broken down by the real world.
As someone who like puppets, (especially puppet horror) this game stole my heart IMMEDIATELY. It's not one of those copy and paste mascot horrors, like rainbow friends or garten of banban, but it actually has a deep message to it. And it especially caught my attention since I've been in the welcome home fandom recently, so I'm glad that this game is getting is the praise that deserves!
I feel like this game was made with so much love not just of survival horror but of Jim Henson in general, the sets, the callbacks to Classic Henson films, the character designs, plus all the steps to get the best ending are just wholesome
Just watched this game and I'm blown away! Its unique approach and passionate execution really shine through. The lighthearted message it delivers is so touching, especially in these times. Kudos to the developers!
I really hope the game gets more attention because it's so cool and petty looking. The puppet aesthetic and noir story is such a unique concept and it has amazing character interactions and moments with Gordon
MFN is so absolutely amazing, everything about it is perfect. The true ending after helping the puppets is so wholesome and is the only other time I’ve teared up in a Mascot Horror game, with the other being the Henry Speech in FNaF 6 (specifically the part referring to Charlie). Also I do really hope they make some merch of this game cause I would 100% love to have a Norman plush with me at all times.
@@joshcoy6748Now that sounds extremely cool. Tbh I think were overall a little early for merch, but I do know that there was a YouTooz figure of Norman that had it's preorder start not long ago (which is already sold out ;~;) that will actually ship in November.
I also like to think that the game could have some sort of message about neurodivergency and how the world tries to shield away mentally ill and neurodivergent individuals, locking them in psych wards or just plain ignoring them. When the demo came out I've seen a lot of people teorizing about this saying that the common enemy puppets (Norman and co) resemble lots of traits like being hyperactive and witty and talking too much, and you can find some other traits in the cutscenes with the special puppets or just by what we learn about them like most of them being nonverbal I know that the core message of the game is about being hopeful in dark times and not falling into cinicism and nihilism, but since I've seen those people talking about it in the demo I kept thinking about it and needed to bring my thoughts up
I have no words to describe this game, the lore just touched me with being so deep and the main history of reality being rude felt different than others, specially since the lore is nit the same shit of “EvEryOnE dIssApEarEd 69420 YeArS aGo” and instead goes a completely different way, a 10/10 tbh
Wow Daggz, so nice of you to create this well-edited, amazingly put together, wonderfully scripted video for us about such an amazing game to entertain us before teasing your garten of banban 4 video!
When I saw brief clips of this game I thought it was just gonna be the same slop as what mascot horror has become but when you mentioned 2 Szymanskis were behind it my jaw hit the FLOOR
oh, the machine you talked about in the end is basicly an arg with all of the old trailers, if ya finish it you get a qr code leading to a secret discord sever (not so secret anymore honestly) but so far we have no idea what the other door leads to as nothing opens it
That speech you made at the end was really profound. I think that games like these show that there are people willing to to take old ideas and make them feel new again! Here’s to hoping that MFN becomes the next big influencer of mascot horror devs!
I haven’t seen a play through of this but I’m happy this game is getting recognition Thanks to Sagan Hawkes for putting this in the personal suggestions segment of Mascot Horror, good horror games are getting the recognition they deserve Hopefully we could move on from BanBan soon
I just ADORE this game! It gave me so many feelings. I remember when I saw the demo and got so excited for it! It blew me away with what they did with the theme and design elements. You can really tell how much love they have for their inspiration. I was surprised by how well they characterized all the puppets and how Gordon was able to empathize with them. I will admit I did end up crying a little at some parts, which surprised me. I love when a horror title can make me cry because I empathize with the characters, even the 'monsters'.
I will say, the puppets on the top floors aren’t malicious, there just excited to see a new human friend, and don’t know how to fully control themselves.
I think also the fact the in the endings it shows that this wasn’t some life traumatizing thing, this was just, a slightly unusual day so much so that he ended up just, forgetting
This has easily been one of my favorite games in last while, but i will never forgive the amount of time I sat at the mysterious machine (which, btw, when solved just gives out a discord invite to a super secret discord) and hand translated the morse code that its beeping. To save you all some time, it translates to "lol. Lmao even"
Really love the story not being about the origins of the monsters and more on the mentality of the world were in But nothing still beats [unidentified train monster] appearing in garten of peakpeak 4
I will say it seems like the war that the game is referencing is the Vietnam War. Which I think would make a lot of sense why people in the game are so downtrodden. The Vietnam War was the first war that was televised and it seemed like it would never end
This game is very passionate and unique ! It tried to do its own thing and succeeded on every point. Its light-hearted message is also really good and touching, especially during current times.
MFN is honestly a more fleshed out version of whst i think BATIM was trying to be - survival horror. BATIM was a very stripped down idea, just focusing on puzzles and evading the enemies, but MFN is far more like what people see as “survival horror”, much closer to a classic Resident Evil game, including actual gunplay! But MFN also taps into a kid friendly version of what made classic survival horror like RE work so well - a feeling of NEVER being safe. the puppets are unkillable, the inventory space is limited, heck, even your SAVES are limited! yet, it’s never too scary or graphic that a kid couldn’t play it and have fun with it. i’d argue that MFN is a fantastic first survival horror for a younger audience, and i hope it lasts as a gem in the genre!!
The primary difference between a good game and a bad game, regardless of genre or funding, is the careful attention to details and thought out interactions between the narrative and gameplay. Passion projects are worth the weight because they demonstrate understanding this concept in a deceptively impactful way, getting you immersed in them effortlessly in a fashion you won't forget them either.
After that conversation with Ricky in the park where he clearly struck a nerve with Gordon, I honestly thought he gonna end up being the big bad at the end of the game. That moment gave me Flowey vibes, like he was fucking with Gordon on purpose.
i just love this game more than i can say with words. it's one of the better mascot horror games generally, and i love everything from the designs to the story.
Pretty sure the curtain enemy is based off of the curtain puppet(?) (I know it's actually CGI) in a segment of sesame street called "Elmo the Musical".
I like how this game is a breath of fresh air. Lore wise and game play wise. While I do love listening to deep lore about certain Horror games, it gets old quickly when it comes down to soul gets trapped in a twisted version of a childhood object or character. While MFN doesn't have super deep lore, it doesn't need to have it. I just love the theme that it goes for that many other Mascot horror doesn't touch on. I also like that you do have guns, but having guns doesn't make you overpowered. And it makes sense for puppets to be able to get up again, since at the end of the day, they are puppets and not whatever the toys at Poppy Playtime are supposed to be. Overall, a good horror game and I think the brothers have a good grasp of understanding horror or at the very least what makes a good game.
MFN is one of the most creative Mascot Horror by making it A Survivor Horror. It’s just……fun, and also a start for someone that wants to try the Survival Horror gunera with out the scary.
I love how instead of the puppets containing the souls of children or being sinister government experiments, they’ve always been alive in a muppets or Roger rabbit-style world where they co-exist with humans.
My friendly neighbourhood is a excellent indie, horror, game anybody who thinks of it as their favourite horror game has good taste in mascot horror story characters in the setting are amazing and very cleverly thought out. I don’t need to say more.
I think the war is the Vietnam War, btw also I read on TV Tropes that you solve that one lock you were stumped on by putting in the date of the game's...first trailer I think?
I love this game with all my heart. It’s such a good product, and the they definitely took a different approach when it came to the story. Everything just feels like a different kind of mascot horror experience, that stands out from the crowd. And it’s so sad that releases like the Ruin DLC. I wish that it got more of a spotlight, but I’m glad that the people who have experienced its glory, have appreciated everything in this game. And it will always hold a special place in my heart.

There is a spot on my local news tonight that was games to put you to put you Halloween mood that’s not what it exactly was called but you get the point it covered this game. It was actually quite nice to see the small game. Get some praise. I didn’t know what it was until well I saw this video and then I remembered the news report I saw.
my favorute part of MFN is thats its the gameplay of a survival horror (tension and not feeling safe included) with out most of the traditional horror, something i first thought that a game had to be a full on horror game to have.
For me, MFN is like Resident Evil but with a modern twist. It's great seeing the survival horror genre something old yet something new all at once. It just holds that feel, that little sweet spot I like.😊
I just like that the puppets are just alive, no question. They aren’t former puppeteers that got stuffed into them or some shit Also that the lore is simple and easy to understand Not sure if you will made a video on the new horde mode thing. But it would be cool. Especially since we can finally unlock the 123 room
Love how this game is basically "What if Sesame Stree's good messages failed?" and also shows in a subtle way how we people tend to prefer dark/negative content over positive ones... Like just look at how many negative news compared to positive ones there are...
I remember watching Markiplier play the demo and I was COMPLETELY enamoured. Then it just… never came up again. Not until today. And now that I know the story, I’m sad and happy. It’s a very touching story that should be way more known.
I adore how this video's thesis lines up with the themes of the game quite well. Even though bad things have happened and the thing you loved has lost a lot of it's magic for you, there is still something here worth getting to know. There is still a light, even in the darkness.
I'm kinda surprised they didn't reference Conan's speech from when he was screwed over by NBC in the speech Al Gerzwald gives the kids when the show is canceled
Another thing: the voice of Ricky, as far as I know, is the voice of Arlo, a youtube channel with a blue puppet mascot. I think knowing the voice of a puppet voices a puppet gives the game a little extra charm, y'know?

Norman yelling " I WON!! " and then slapping you so hard you fall backwards is TOO FUNNY TO IGNORE
It's just beautiful overall
That's actually- weirdly enough- a pretty satisfying "Then I left. And nothing happened." ending.
My sister was at a convention recently and got me a Norman pin, although I think according to her it was free, but still I appreciated it.
@@joshcoy6748Now that sounds extremely cool. Tbh I think were overall a little early for merch, but I do know that there was a YouTooz figure of Norman that had it's preorder start not long ago (which is already sold out ;~;) that will actually ship in November.
@@joshcoy6748 Dagnabbit how do I get meself one of those
@@WHERE_IS_EURYDICE I don't know the details, I wasn't there.
I also like to think that the game could have some sort of message about neurodivergency and how the world tries to shield away mentally ill and neurodivergent individuals, locking them in psych wards or just plain ignoring them. When the demo came out I've seen a lot of people teorizing about this saying that the common enemy puppets (Norman and co) resemble lots of traits like being hyperactive and witty and talking too much, and you can find some other traits in the cutscenes with the special puppets or just by what we learn about them like most of them being nonverbal
I know that the core message of the game is about being hopeful in dark times and not falling into cinicism and nihilism, but since I've seen those people talking about it in the demo I kept thinking about it and needed to bring my thoughts up
I have no words to describe this game, the lore just touched me with being so deep and the main history of reality being rude felt different than others, specially since the lore is nit the same shit of “EvEryOnE dIssApEarEd 69420 YeArS aGo” and instead goes a completely different way, a 10/10 tbh
I'm surprised how few people recognized the crayon drawn walls from Elmo's World, it was one of the few spinoff shows I watched growing up
Wow Daggz, so nice of you to create this well-edited, amazingly put together, wonderfully scripted video for us about such an amazing game to entertain us before teasing your garten of banban 4 video!
I haven’t seen a play through of this but I’m happy this game is getting recognition
Thanks to Sagan Hawkes for putting this in the personal suggestions segment of Mascot Horror, good horror games are getting the recognition they deserve
Hopefully we could move on from BanBan soon
My ass thought banban was gonna be over at chapter 5 💀
It's so refreshing how this horror game's mascot is just a living mascot. No soul, no dead bodies. Just a world where human and dolls coexists ☺️
This has easily been one of my favorite games in last while, but i will never forgive the amount of time I sat at the mysterious machine (which, btw, when solved just gives out a discord invite to a super secret discord) and hand translated the morse code that its beeping.
To save you all some time, it translates to "lol. Lmao even"
Really love the story not being about the origins of the monsters and more on the mentality of the world were in
But nothing still beats [unidentified train monster] appearing in garten of peakpeak 4
I will say it seems like the war that the game is referencing is the Vietnam War. Which I think would make a lot of sense why people in the game are so downtrodden. The Vietnam War was the first war that was televised and it seemed like it would never end
It seemed more analagous to it rather than just being the vietnam war.
This game was absolutely amazing, I'm so glad somebody finally covered it! Also, the Half Life ref at 4:29 was very much appreciated on my half.
MFN is great man.

4:59 Ricky got rizz🥶
I’m not used to the games you cover here to have such phenomenal voice acting. Ricky especially sounds so natural and like he’s a part of the world.
I loved the Safe Puzzle with the Dice. It's so simple, yet difficult. It helps if you know how Dice are organized.
Norman screaming "i won!" is super funny
After that conversation with Ricky in the park where he clearly struck a nerve with Gordon, I honestly thought he gonna end up being the big bad at the end of the game. That moment gave me Flowey vibes, like he was fucking with Gordon on purpose.
i just love this game more than i can say with words. it's one of the better mascot horror games generally, and i love everything from the designs to the story.
40:40 man I love this dev family- the big head cheat is a reference to the same cheat in the original 007 Goldeneye game!
On the topic of the puppets just being alive, part of me viewed it as a toy story thing. Like, they're mass-made, and came to life after the fact.
I think its like Hello puppets where the studio used some magic but the only difference is that the Puppets never turned evil
Pretty sure the curtain enemy is based off of the curtain puppet(?) (I know it's actually CGI) in a segment of sesame street called "Elmo the Musical".
Hey Daggz, you should check out this pretty unknown indie horrror game. Its called Garten Of Banban.
Sounds like an amazing game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PEAK FICTION!!!!
never heard of but sounds familiar for some reason 🤔
The game of games
Stupidly ungreat.
MFN is a blood relative to DUSK!?
*_How poetic_*
29:22 "won't you be our neighbor" sounds like a general statement, but it sounds so much like a homage to Mister Rogers, particularly the intro song.
The problem is not the mascot horror genre itself, it's the devs' greedy minds just some of them who makes these "mascot horror" games.
This is one of the horror games I was actually hyped for!
People! Stop giving Banban attention! Play THIS! Not that trash!
Than what are we supposed to be mad at? what can we do?!
game too funny to stop giving attention to
@@silksongoutyet Amen
I’m so sad it released right behind Ruin, as it’s my opinion that hurt it’s own publicity (and I like MFN so much more).
It released before ruin
MFN is one of the most creative Mascot Horror by making it A Survivor Horror.
It’s just……fun, and also a start for someone that wants to try the Survival Horror gunera with out the scary.
played through this entire game a week ago, it's PEAK
I just love it because its Resident Evil but with puppets and pulls it off *perfectly*
I love how instead of the puppets containing the souls of children or being sinister government experiments, they’ve always been alive in a muppets or Roger rabbit-style world where they co-exist with humans.
It's a great detail that your character is named Gordon when this is so obviously Sesame Street.
My friendly neighbourhood is a excellent indie, horror, game anybody who thinks of it as their favourite horror game has good taste in mascot horror story characters in the setting are amazing and very cleverly thought out. I don’t need to say more.
You had me at “Szymanski”, nepotism for the win
Also took me a minute to recognize Arlo
I think the war is the Vietnam War, btw
also I read on TV Tropes that you solve that one lock you were stumped on by putting in the date of the game's...first trailer I think?
I love this game with all my heart. It’s such a good product, and the they definitely took a different approach when it came to the story. Everything just feels like a different kind of mascot horror experience, that stands out from the crowd. And it’s so sad that releases like the Ruin DLC. I wish that it got more of a spotlight, but I’m glad that the people who have experienced its glory, have appreciated everything in this game. And it will always hold a special place in my heart.
My Friendly Neighborhood is definitely an older game. I'm glad people are starting to talk about it now, since it's still very underappreciated.
daggz we all know the best mascot horror game is garten of banban.
To me it’s not

@@garrettmurphy2447same, i'm sick of hearing the same things over and over about it
edit: yes people, i know it's a joke, sometimes you just gotta let your opinions out, don't tell me you don't also get tired of seeing everyone constantly bashing on the game because of it's developers' decision to not improve on actually making a game worth buying

NO NOT GARTEN OF BAN BAN 😂
This game was so good I'm glad it has so much coverage thx daggz. Also I feel like I'm the only one who likes most sewer levels. In resident evil 2 it had such a good sewer level probaly my fav
Ricky being voiced by Arlo is so perfect! I smiled when I recognized his voice
This style of this game was absolutely incredible
The end of it reminded me of the beginning of silent hill 2’s intro and how James talks about how he cannot forget about silent hill
While watching this video a delivery driver actually handed me the food instead of just leaving it on the porch, and the feels this game gives made that feel oddly touching
There is a spot on my local news tonight that was games to put you to put you Halloween mood that’s not what it exactly was called but you get the point it covered this game. It was actually quite nice to see the small game. Get some praise. I didn’t know what it was until well I saw this video and then I remembered the news report I saw.
As a fan of RE and Mascot Horror, i see this game as an absolute classic
my favorute part of MFN is thats its the gameplay of a survival horror (tension and not feeling safe included) with out most of the traditional horror, something i first thought that a game had to be a full on horror game to have.
For me, MFN is like Resident Evil but with a modern twist. It's great seeing the survival horror genre something old yet something new all at once. It just holds that feel, that little sweet spot I like.😊
I just like that the puppets are just alive, no question. They aren’t former puppeteers that got stuffed into them or some shit
Also that the lore is simple and easy to understand
Not sure if you will made a video on the new horde mode thing. But it would be cool. Especially since we can finally unlock the 123 room
i love how this game looks its the small things like the og resident evil door opening animation and the atache case from re4 is just kinda crazy
18:30 s a reference to velvet from elmo the musical. she's a living curtain that controls scene changes and lifts objects with her tassels.
Ever since the demo of this game came out I was intrigued and pleasantly surprised… then the full game came out and both happened again.
In My opinion:
My Evil Resident.
*_8/10_*
I'm kinda surprised they didn't reference Conan's speech from when he was screwed over by NBC in the speech Al Gerzwald gives the kids when the show is canceled
I thought Ricky was gonna start ranting about modern paper mario
Did the game just made me cry?! Nah 💀 this is the next bluey
Another thing: the voice of Ricky, as far as I know, is the voice of Arlo, a youtube channel with a blue puppet mascot. I think knowing the voice of a puppet voices a puppet gives the game a little extra charm, y'know?
17:34 this made me laugh way harder than it should’ve 😂😂😂
My favorite part from the wall boss fight was the fact that it was voiced by GIANNI MATRAGRANO
