    I have the 7220, seven channel amp and love this amp! This replaced my old set of four NAD amps. It is quiet as I have yet to hear the fan ever run and really provides clean power and really appreciate the balanced inputs. They are made well with great connections and is definitely a tank at 93lbs! I think this is the ideal amp for a home theater setup as well as a high end audio setup. I was impressed on how quickly it arrived and they provide great customer support to answer any questions you may have. I would highly recommend this amp and to me it is a great value for the level of power along with providing balanced inputs!
    I plan on getting another Outlaw 5 channel amp when I upgrade beyond a 7 channel home theater setup; I am still pondering if I should get another 7220 or spend less for the 7000, but am leaning on splurging for another 7220...

    👋🏼 Bro 😎,
    Brand new subscriber ✌🏼,
    really enjoy ur explanation & review 👌🏼….
    I own 4 of the 2220 (update of the 2200),
    I use them for my 2 Surround & 2 Rear Surround speakers 💪🏼,
    it’s definitely 💯 overkill but I enjoy the headroom & clarity of the speakers weather it’s loud or low volume with absolutely NO hiss, the speakers are absolutely silent until the surround sound is needed.
    Living in a townhome with neighbors are both sides of me with really crappy insulation, I have to pick & choose what content I view & at what time, so I really needed clarity at low volumes but at the same time quality for when I can get into a detached home when I can crank the movie & music.
    Thnx again for ur content, all the way from
    Sunny Southern California 🤙🏼

    I own two 7900s. They are absolutely the best sounding amp I've ever personally heard, and I won't try lifting one by myself (ha). I literally used a 2-wheel dolly to move them around while they were still in the boxes. If you're going to use speakers that are less than 8 ohms, I would suggest using two dedicated 20 amp circuits to feed each amp, which is what I use. Temperature wise, they do run warmer than any other amp I've owned so make sure they get plenty of ventilation. I think I'm going to order a couple of the AC Infinity fans for them. As far as I know, these were introduced in 2007 and haven't had any changes made to them since. I'm hoping Outlaw hasn't decided to discontinue the 7900 as I'd like to get 1 more.

    The specs for Outlaw amps seem to be much better than Emotiva's (even their more expensive line), especially for THD with 4ohm loads. I plan to go with Outlaw.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  2 года назад +1

      I do prefer the way Outlaw measures their published specification over Emotiva - lower THD all channels driven for both 8 and 4 ohm loads. Emotiva measures at 0.1% vs. Outlaw's 0.02%-0.07%. Furthermore, does this odd thing whereby they don't specific 4 ohm loads all channels driven, but rather 2 channels driven to make the results look better (I think to match gen 2 values when they used toroidal power supplies. Despite those measurement differences, I still feel that Emotiva is in the same class of output values. I would say that Outlaw becomes a safer choice given their more honest measurements. Outlaw does miss a few specification details depending on the model such as gain and even the amplifier class type. -Jon

      @shaolin95 Год назад

      Yeah Emotiva is a very fishy company.
      Heck, just take a look at their center speaker reviews where they removed all negative reviews and now they are all 5 stars!
      That should be illegal to mislead customers

    To answer the questions at the end, outlaw looks to serve exactly what I’m looking for at the right price. In the future I’d like to see a class D from these guys that will have a high watts and a good price per channel.
    I’ve recently upgraded my 7.2.4 system and now the speakers aren’t timbre matched (Polk reserve for ear level and klipsch RP for atmos). I’ve noticed my Polk R600’s sound much better with a good 4 ohm amp. So now I’m looking to update my electronics with Dirac and an external amp. Currently looking into the Onkyo RZ50 + Outlaw 7000x. The outlaw will power my L, C, R, LR, RR, RH2, LH2 and the Onkyo will power the LS, RS, LH1, RH1. I figure the Onkyo should last me until the next major spec bump (4-5 years hopefully) and the outlaw can live on and power another cheap AVR used as a processor

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  2 года назад +1

      It seems we discovered the same characteristic about Polk speakers - they love a high current amplifier. When I upgraded the amps for the front three Polk they came alive. The Outlaws products are good from them. Is cost the main reason you are hoping for class-D? I understand some class-D amplifiers can out class class-AB amps.-Jon

    • @bearysh
      @bearysh 2 года назад +1

      @@ripewave thanks for the confirmation that I’m going down the right path!
      I like class D for a few reasons: price, sinad scores, energy/heat (my media room already runs hot).
      Chi-fi has really been impressing me with their class D stuff the past couple years. Aiyima and Topping have incredibly high sinad scores for the price and Sabaj A8 is a high output Ice powered mono block that has an awesome price to performance, or the A20a for a cheaper price if you don’t need that much power or ultra low distortion.
      I haven’t A/B’d my Class D and AB amps so I cannot speak to what kind of tonal difference I hear between them, but I figure with a good processor and a umik I can change the sound however I’d like.

    I actually just realized a benefit to having multiple chassis. I don't watch Atmos content nearly as often as other content, so if I were to have all of my height channels powered by their own amplifier, I could have that amp turned off most of the time and only turn it on (manually) when I want to watch something with Atmos. I expect this could save on power since the amp wouldn't constantly be turned on by the 12V trigger whenever my processor is on.

    Can’t find much online so thought I would post here. I’m 2 channel audio only guy so don’t care about home theater. I just bought a pair of magnepan 1.7i planar ribbon speakers. These speakers require lots of current and damping factor for control not necessarily watts. They are rated at 4 ohms but dip to 2 ohms in some frequency ranges. Currently looking at a tube pre amp and pairing with outlaw 2220. Does this model support speakers that dip below 4 ohms or am I risking triggering the thermal protection or clipping?

    • @aceofspades6667
      @aceofspades6667 Год назад

      Are you able to explain the 2220 input impedance at 10k? I’m looking at a quicksilver line stage tube pre .
      Input Impedance 100 Kohm, 20 Hz-20 KHz
      Output Impedance 100 ohms, 20 Hz-20 KHz
      Output Polarity inverted
      Maximum Input 30 volts RMS, 20 Hz-20 KHz
      Maximum Output 60 volts RMS, 20 Hz-20 KHz

    • @ripewave

      The only Outlaw Audio amplifier that has published specifications at 4 ohms, is the Model 2220 (4 ohm at 300 Watts). Outlaw Audio does not make 2 ohm claims.
      With the planar ribbon speakers you have that dip to 2 ohms, I would at least want a solid claim for 4 ohm load support. Very few claim 2 ohm support - e.g. McIntosh.
      Brands claiming 4 ohm support include Acurus, ATI, Emotiva, Krell, OSD, ToneWinner and Wisdom as well as the Outlaw Model 2220 and McIntosh mentioned earlier.
      Of those brands, the Acurus M78 has the higher damping factor (1000). Emotiva, ToneWinner (AD-5180), Krell and ATI are all over 400 damping factor. Other ToneWinner and OSD are under 200 damping factor.
      McIntosh has the lowest damping factor despite supporting 2 ohm loads of 40 "wide band".
