Saw them a month later in Utah. Triple bill with New Order and Gene Loves Jezebel. First date with my future wife. I despised New Wave, being a huge Zeppelin fan, but she was just 18 and I was 22. You gotta do what you gotta do. I hit the Chess King and decked myself out. Satin jacket with shoulder pads. Bolo tie. The works. Even cut my hair for the first time in 5 years. It worked.
other than being very melodic and upbeat, Echo isn't far off the elements of Zep. Great lyrics, drumming, bass and guitar. Only the hair and the crowd is different. Good for you for opening up your options.
A huge Zeppelin fan AND a Bunnymen faithful congratulating you and your true Love. With lots of LOVE from South Korea!!!!! My adolescence was colored by Jimmy Page, the ultimate in dark and mysterious. When I was ready for real boys, there was Killing Moon. I feel sorry for all other generations.
One of the greatest Alternative Rock drummers ever, Pete D. I started playing drums in the early 80s and he was a HUGE influence. So much so, my last band in 2020, was covering this song, per my suggestion.
What a time to be alive, these and The Cure, and both bands are still touring. All you kids missed out ..... Roll on September and the Ocean Rain tour, coincides with my birthday so there had better be cake at the Royal Albert Hall.
This performance is kinda sad to me. The band already peaked with their great previous albums. Pete was a part time member of the band and won’t be around much longer. I watch this thinking they were done - and Ian moved on to do solo work.
I have to agree with you on Ian's singing. I saw EATBM back back in the early 80's in NYC and again in 2017 in Asbury Park. Ian's years of smoking has taken a toll on one of the greatest and mesmerizing voices in music history (IMHO). I can hear his voice crack many times in this video and it got worse as time marched on, so much so that when he had to adjust his style and sing everything an octave lower than he did in the 80's. His voice has a totally different sound to it these days as well, more raspy and deeper. You would never know that yesterday's Bunnymen was the same band as it is today. Even the song writing is changed, not for the better. I have to live in the past, sadly, "Nothing lasts for ever" and nothing stays the same...
@@O2Bars Are they still worth seeing for someone who wasn't born, unfortunately, until 1988? I really want to hear them live once. I'm hoping the next time they tour the UK I can nab some tickets.
Probably lack of connection between them causing uncertainties in their performance around this time. Saw them in '99 at Leeds carling fest and mac's vocal range and delivery was stellar throughout.🎤
@@JOHNBOULTERartandsong Cool. Would love to see them live. Connection is important in performance. Not sure if there’s much between Wil and Mac these days, sadly.
40 years later , I’m still dancing like a maniac. Does it get any better than this ?
Ian has one the best voices of the 80's

The skinny Chess King ties were standard going out dress lol
Great drumming from the great Pete De Fretais. This was almost the end for the Bunnymen
Indeed. But it still makes me cry remembering the day that I heard of his tragic accident.
@UCYn7kB8lvfUtRsHRASTVcLw A very sad day indeed. It’s hard to believe it was 31 years ago, I was 18 at the time and a massive Bunnymen fan.
@@ZeldaFitz I was 17 at the time and it cut me to pieces 😢 (still does. to be honest) But I still follow and buy Bunnymen to this day...
It's not the same, though...
@@savannahgarcia7976 The Bunneymen finished in 1987 as far as I’m concerned. Anything other than; Ian,Will, Les & Pete is just not the Bunnymen.

Same here, everything you mentioned!!
Been playing to this song on my kit tonight. One of my favourite drummers, metronomic, tight and powerful. His death was so sad and still is.
Hear, hear!
Amen to that! He was a monster drummer.
Not really. He was solid but not special by any means...
His voice is so awesome and I love the band
The Face of the 80s...
Wonderful Song😍😍😍
You sure can get away with some trickery on foreign language television 6:25
Hmmmm.
8-D
1st saw them on URGH! A Music War and have been a fan ever since.
real band right here. all live. gotta love it! so tight. as a drummer I get this. so awesome
Loved this song for decades. The lyrics are amazing. I think, live, they overplay it, like here. It's not really a "rocker." But thanks for posting.
a magic, time warp into those Bunnymen, thank you - downloader
RIP Pete. Will never forget you.
Indeed!
Pleasant words off creativity that are pleasing to my ear drums. Keep it going Ian.
when the bunnymen wrote golden effervescen tunes of endless sonic mesmerism
the first tune ... lol
THE BEST BAND EVER !!! ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN
That drummer!!!
Pete de Frieta's
@@mattiemclean9882 r.i.p
wow Pete DeFreitas on drums!!!
why "wow"? He was their drummer for all the first 5 albums and 10 years of touring...
This has to be one of the last of the original line up performances.
Love the way he sings "strangers in the night" Soooooo sexy
They way he sings that! Oh-la!

Really cool the way they involved Eddie the Eagle in the show
😂
I reckon he had his skis on underneath that keyboard. No doubt about it.
Great drummer.
Last friday at Gunnersbury park the Bunnymen were superb..Macca the Legend.
fantastic. thanks!
I don't recall 'get your tits out' being a line in Twist and Shout?
Neither is "get your trout out"...
Mac is the man 🎸
Walk on the Wild Side... that was a treat.😍
GREAT SOUND 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
Important history- Ian's beautiful voice breaking apart from the tobacco.
So sad and true. Had a voice for the ages, didn't take care of it.
@@reddogvideo6524 So true. He had one of the most beautiful voice in the early 80s. They were my fav band by far!
q es lindo Ian csm
Ian doesn't need make up to look good :)

Best moment is 3:21 haha love ian!
That smile!'
LaBamba and Twist and Shout are basically the same song minus the lyrics, lead guitar and language. The rhythm is exactly the same.
I had the same that impression!
Lorraine was one lucky girl
Special guest morrissey
MTV FlashbaCK....... AAAAHHHHHH Summer on 1987................
Pretty cool they got a random guy from the audience to play guitar
That wasnt a random.... that was their roadie, Jake
@@mattiemclean9882 Nope. Jake was playing the keys at the back.
Think it was their guitar tech Curly
The band really tight here, somehow when they play it now, the acoustics not quite the same as they once were!!
Who's the bloke Ian hands his guitar to - a roadie/stagehand?
I have been wondering the same!
It may be Curly Jobson--who was his guitar tech during that tour. You hear Ian say, "Curly" just before he comes on stage.
Will Sargeant best guitarist!
What is that black thing on Will's guitar behind the bridge?
I thought it might be an ebow but it is the wrong shape. Very odd.
Actually I've looked again and I think it is an ebow. The angle had me fooled. Not sure how he's fixed it there though
There IS an eBow on the album..."Over You"...
what's with the guy's face?
Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie make up
ʀᴏᴛᴛᴇɴ ɪɴsɪᴅᴇ most likely, true.
ʀᴏᴛᴛᴇɴ ɪɴsɪᴅᴇ Ian just handed over a very expensive Gibson guitar to a guy who mentally who is not all there.
Wtf are you guys talking about??? Its jake drake Brockman, played on and off with them, joined in late 80s known as the "fifth bunnyman"
@@kowbowski954 Jake was the guy at the back. They're asking about the guy in ziggy make up who I dont recognize either
Actually signs of them getting bored.
I agree. interesting.
Awful songs/singing. The end was near. How the mighty fall. Petes great and Will.
wow... I have to disagree - lips like sugar is superb.
