Whoa two episodes in a week! Crazy I use to listen to these when there was no DA news for years lol Personally I enjoyed the revealed trailer and the gameplay trailer. Again, congrats on making the Bioware Community board! Stay golden!

Good chat. Reminded me to swing by The Keep and peruse my forgotten decisions from Inquisition. I'll contribute to the positivity--MULTIPLE EQUIPPED WEAPONS!!! They demo'd Rook as a rogue which is my go-to first class pick and I almost wept tears of joy to see him using daggers and bow + arrow at the same time! I've wanted it for so long! 😭
@@ExaltedMarch I've been dying for a better implementation of the item sets feature from DA:O; they haven't had anything like it since weapons became class-locked in DA2. It also feels similar to the melee system of Andromeda, where your Ryder could even craft a sword or club that best suited their style.
Literally just finished listening to the last episode and this popped up! I'm so happy to hear your thoughts on the initial reveal and gameplay reveal. I'm SO excited for the game (spent years discussing with my friend and so glad it's finally happening) and watching the gameplay reveal made me even more so!
I feel like a caffeinated kid unleashed without supervision in a candy shop. 2 STV episodes and gameplay in less than a week! The high is real. 🤣 The gameplay was awesome to see. I still have some reservations but I’m already loading up DA:O just to lore dive and prepare. (Seriously the last few seconds of the gameplay got me SO PUMPED. I’m just dying that Caitie can’t say what she KNOWS)
The comparison with the caffeinated kid in a candy shop is so real omg. My ADHD brain is riding that dopamine high until I run out of veilguard content.
Honestly, I’m glad they’re adding a past choices menu into the game. Just jump in, pick the options you want to play out and go. So far, every thing I’ve wanted for DAV has been confirmed. However I hope we will be able to save custom character appearances, so we don’t have to start from scratch every time we start a new game. Just a quality of life kinda thing
The first time I played DAI I didn’t put the Keep in properly and didn’t realise until Morrigan showed up. So while I loved the Keep I am not upset with them keeping it in client.
Honest and serious question here. What is it about Origin's combat that makes it so beloved? And what does it do that the other games do not do, or do not do as well? Why is it considered so different and held in high regard? I got into Dragon Age at 2. I havent played Origins, so I'd just really like to know what made its combat so beloved and whats different compared to other games. Would appreciate any responses.
It's about how much say you can have in managing your companions. Just like in DA2 you can set up tactics for everyone, but unlike DA2 you can decide whether your warrior class party member will be a dual wielder, a tank using a shield or a berserker running with a giant axe. Same goes for other classes. Mages are the most crazy with a bunch of spells to choose from. So if you're into fine tuning all of this stuff: the abilities, specializations, tactics - it's basically a paradise. The more classic rpg experience. Other than that the combat feels clunky and slow, so it's not my favorite I hope that explains it somewhat.
It’s the combination of the pace of “real time” with the tactical maneuvering that style gives that isn’t really possible to capture in full on action combat that people either love or have some nostalgia for from BioWare popularizing it in their early games (from BG1/2 to kotor to DAO)
Whatever I think of the trailer (didn't like) or the gameplay reveal (liked it more than I thought I would), the stream of DA news/content makes me happy just because Split the Veil gets to happen more often.
Me, thinking that Morrimythal was going to come at the end of the game and fuck up Solas ritual: NEAT!!!! HYPE! HYPE! Oh, I'm so smart! Me, watching Rook disrupting Solas' ritual 20min into the game: .... Oh....Oh, I don't know anything (except I recognise Moonhead and Beetle). HYPE! HYPE! glad mom and dad are back... well, not dad because he's Dave now, but still. (sorry, the joke was right there, I couldn't not do it)
@@DewelynC It's not choice dependent. Well, tbh, we don't even know if its going to happen, but the theory in the fandom for a few years was that Flemythal had set her 'godhood' aside to be left to Morrigan before Solas killed her. Whether that happened or not is unknown.
Yesterday I mentioned elsewhere that if Solas just gets yeeted out of the game by the MYSTERIOUS FADE FIGURES it'd be a disappointing end to his story but also really fucking funny. I am now praying that Caitie and I have the same sense of humour.
So happy mom and dad are back! I’ll be honest after the trailer I was a bit concerned with the tone and art style but wow did that gameplay reveal alleviate my worries. Tone seems right on point and the combat looks action packed and awesome! So excited for all the StV episodes that are to come from DA:VG…or is it DA:tVG? Anyways, so hyped for the future!
4 years ago I was a field tester for a new system my company is rolling out now so I empathize with you in the respect of alpha testing something and being excited but having no one but the other field testers to discuss it with. You just have to be so excited but have no way to explain why to other people who are going to get the program years later. Now I am on that team and developing the enhancements (what gamers would consider dlc and updates) so I still have that feeling of "guys, it's going to be so awesome you just need to wait!" But at least I have an entire dev team to talk to about the excitement now haha
I got the super hype! I will miss controlling the companions and having an extra one however I really enjoyed playing MELE. When playing MELE I had to think about more strategies than inquisition. I think I will try the Lords of Fortune background.
So much info has been coming out so rapidly it's been making me physically tired from the hype.... x___x but I am thoroughly enjoying the feast. THANK YOU Caitie for mentioning the double heads at the ritual site that has been bothering me lmao but I figured it was more than likely just a mistake. happy DA summer to everyone !!! :^)
I really hope The Keep stays up cause I'm doing an 100% run through right now and I want to be able to reset my world state if I decide to play differently this time with all the DLCs
This game gives me strong ME2 vibes in terms of game design. Disappointed in the simplified combat but I really like that they dropped the open world map. Hopefully we go back to DAO/Mass Effect hubs. Tevinter's capital looked great. The dialogue choices in the gameplay reveal were a bit lackluster. I hope we get more on average than what was shown. Very curious about Harding now.
Great discussion, you all. Notable occasion that I'm talking to my phone as the people are speaking. I guess you can't say who the eleven gods are who came out there in the end of the gameplay demo. Thanks to your discussions of symbolism in some of those animated graphics, we have a good guess. Good to hear I'm not alone in my thoughts about the dialogue wheel, the movement toward Mass Effect, for better and for worse, the romances, the voices... And now I want to go play ME:Andromeda right quick. I never pulled off that particular romance. Cheers!
Moon head and beetle head. Looking at the mural in the newest comic the Missing, they are probably Andruil and Ghilan'nain. Catie has made several videos on these two!😊
@@DewelynC I wast thinking Ghilain'nain was one of them, as well, just was not sure on the second figure. I wonder if we will see some freaky mad scientist creatures
Also, there is so much info dropped in here, thank you so much for sharing what you can, and thank you for participating in this because I know you pushed this game in the right direction.
I play on console and if Keep is dying I guess in the next few weeks I need to make save games with my world state and make a hard save at the start so I can have my custom world state in DAI. 😂 Say nothing about me another than I find a way. 😅 can’t wait for you to be able to talk about your playtesting experience, Caitie!!
And here I thought you got so quietly recently cause you gave up and lost interest... like a FOOL. Thank you so much for representing us weirdos and making our voices heard by the devs.
I am happy that people are hyped and excited but to ignore all the potential red flags due to excitement and hype isn't helping it any. They still have months to go and there is still time to make some minor changes that would help make the game better. A good example would be the Pride Demon fight, doesn't those red ground effects bother you that you can't see it at all, so that when you dodge, either left or right, the player shown keep going back into another red circle, and that isn't the player's fault, because there was no way for anyone to see that there was a red circle to the left or right of where he was. That is a huge game play red flag, and this is level 1 stuff, imagine in higher levels and having more enemies with more ground effects, you would literally dodge into them to get hit. Another potential red flag is I only saw 2 ap, to be used per attack, in the images released of a higher level gameplay, which means even with 3 abilities, you can only cast 2 at any time, normal attack would be 80% of your gameplay. Another is I saw no loot or any mentions of loot in any articles. These are all things that can be tweaked before release. That shouldn't be ignored, but rather be kept with an worried eye. Criticism isn't negative, its a mean to make something better.
MOURN WATCH BACKGROUND! MAKER BE PRAISED! Now, Dragon Age, sit down. We need to have a talk. We've been here before, remember? You said there's a Necromancer specialization in Inquisition. You got me all excited about it. And then it just ended up being the Entropy tree from the first two games. Is this going to be like that time? Because you can't do this to me again. You can't just keep baiting me and not delivering on your necromancy promises. You can't keep getting away with it. I've got my eye on you.
I can't help going to the worst possible outcome. Solas won't die yet. Varric is going to sacrifice himself to save Solas because he knows we are going to need him to go against those two gods.
In fairness, "This is the New Shit" was actually tonally coherent with DA:O in the context of the time. Origins was deliberately made to be a grittier, edgier, more serious response to the more "adventury" RPGs of the time. Manson's song pulls double duty in both being edgy itself and in pointing out the contrast (Origins was, indeed, the new shit). Also, Warden's Calling was just an absolute banger of a trailer. Sold the Grey Wardens and the Darkspawn right out of the gate.
I loved the gameplay reveal, really looks like a fun combat system. And it eased my concerns in regards to the art-style too, everything looks so good!
I'm so excited about the game. I'm a huge fan of the use of purple (fav color), haha. I'm not mad about the new combat style. It looks fun & and a bit more engaging. Someone confirmed with me that there are more special abilities than the 3 slots (so great). The graphics look amazing & I love the new look of the demons. The city & the forest were BEAUTIFUL to me. I'm just overall excited! Solas has to pay for destroying Bianca, however. 😂
one more episode and you have the year covered. im kinda worried for the keep, i love custom world states on DAI. hopefully they find a way to keep them or something. btw motherblippers, it's the funniest thing I've heard Jordan say USE THE SOUNDBOARD EVERY EPISODE, it gives a sense of grandeur to the podcast.
i watch the first trailer and was silently upset. only watched like 30 secs of the game-play vid and was sold. it seems like it has that dragon age feel of both campy and dark that i love. the whole cyberpunk fantasy thing Minrathas has is both ridiculous and beautiful while simultaneously fittingthe world perfectly.
How are the hair options? Can we finally have long curly hair instead of hunting for a mod? I’m very excited for this game now. I was worried that Dragon Age would disappoint and fade away, but it looks like the lore, storyline, character development, and companion backgrounds won’t let us down. The characters seem strong, with well-developed personalities, not poorly thought out. That’s how I fell in love with BioWare games (Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect). ❤ Fall couldn’t come fast enough! Here’s hoping the game will come out in September and not December; the wait will be killer, especially for our poor girl, Caitie. 🎉 Poor Varric-his face when Bianca broke had me tearing up. I felt his pain, and Varric, my storytelling dwarf, I was crying with you. That is what I mean by character development. You can feel and see their emotions.
What you said: "Companions can die." What I heard: "Genocide Run is back on the menu." Finally can complete my playthrough where I kill off and cut off as many storylines as possible (Leliana and Anders thought they were SO clever escaping their deaths in DA:O but I haven't forgotten 😤)

I really don’t like that the freedom force guys are called “Shadow Dragons”. I’m a self proclaimed edgelord and I still wince when I hear a character say it 😂
"For those of you who are new here maybe it surprises you but for people who have been looking at this stuff it almost is like a rite of passage at this point for a Bioware game to get a trailer that doesn't match the content" Bro. I was already looking for cunning dagger/dagger rogue builds to kill dragons on the BSN in 2010 and I find that excusing this practice in 2024 out of complacency is still off topic. Anthem's trailer was even less excusable: it was literally fake gameplay footage because they didn't have anything ready. To what extent do you think you can justify the worst practices of this studio in a condescending tone? I have often listened to your podcasts in recent years because you were still among the rare people to be interested like me and others in the Dragon Age universe, but famine does not justify rushing to devour the shit that is thrown between our teeth. This is probably Bioware's last game before its permanent closure, they have no room for error. And yet, between Corinne Busches' wtf declarations urgently removed and the rotten trailer, they accumulate them. If you're happy with that, I'm happy for you. But you're doing a disservice to the people who are in this studio and who are preparing single button gameplay for us in corridors. And it will probably be without me after 15 years of painful loyalty and largely exhausted benefit of the doubt.
I whole heartly agree, I find this stuborn optimism tiresome, sure nothing wrong with keeping an open mind, but sone people are treating it like this is a new studio who just strapped on their big-boy-pants and is ready to make a name.
I started Dragon Age during the pandemic, because I figured they're long enough games to get through quarantine. I've only been waiting four years... but it has felt like eons. How much willpower do you have?
I just hope the world gen system in character creation has some depth to it, I loved every time inquisition made me feel like I was still living in the world that my warden specifically saved. And I hope we meet Shale in Tevinter and can help her turn back into a dwarf 🤪
I missed you both so much good to hear from both of you again . I am excited for the game to come out . The graphics looks amazing and can not wait to see what happens with solas . I wonder if you don’t romance Harding if she romances Varric . If so I think that would be so cute. Since egg head destroyed his poor cross bow . I had a person have a theory and I am not sure about it. I am not a dragon age Lore nerd , no offense to any dragon age lore nerd . A you tuber made a comment about the figures shown before the trailer ends . She believes it’s maybe the Forgotten ones not the Evanuris . That would be very interesting if that was the case.
Pondering about Caitie's comment on the thing after the other elven gods rising up ..i mean solas getting jumped and pulled into the veil would be hilarious but also not??? i wonder 🤔

Honestly yes, having this ability and seamless changing is great
@@ExaltedMarch I've been dying for a better implementation of the item sets feature from DA:O; they haven't had anything like it since weapons became class-locked in DA2.
DA content is flowing and we're making multiple episodes what year is this anyway
Couldn’t be more excited!
WE'RE EATIN' GOOD
And leaving no crumbs? lol
I don't know how the trailer looked so bad when the actual gameplay looks so good
I can have Captain Thedas! Tossing my shield everywhere!!!
I feel like a caffeinated kid unleashed without supervision in a candy shop. 2 STV episodes and gameplay in less than a week! The high is real. 🤣
The gameplay was awesome to see.
Caffeine high is actually a good analogy lol. People loading up new runs of the past DA games is really dope, might do an Inquisition run myself
I saw that you guys had posted a day ago last night, the I watched both the reveal and game play trailers last night! Been keeping an eye out for this
Honestly, I’m glad they’re adding a past choices menu into the game.
I'm sure you did a fine job Caitie!
Can’t wait for Codex Added to drop the Caitie Cut once this game’s out
Honest and serious question here.
Other than that the combat feels clunky and slow, so it's not my favorite
I hope that explains it somewhat.
I love DAO but RtwP purists are rabid. They hated BG3s combat at first too although they all pretend they didn’t now.
It’s the combination of the pace of “real time” with the tactical maneuvering that style gives that isn’t really possible to capture in full on action combat that people either love or have some nostalgia for from BioWare popularizing it in their early games (from BG1/2 to kotor to DAO)
46:24 I was scared for a second 😂🤣
Thank you catie for not revealing spoilers, no matter how hard it is!
I'm so glad I can count on you two to be just as excited as I am.
Appreciate you guys!
I thought the gameplay looked great. Excited to explore the story and characters after Dragon Age Inquisition !
Whatever I think of the trailer (didn't like) or the gameplay reveal (liked it more than I thought I would), the stream of DA news/content makes me happy just because Split the Veil gets to happen more often.
I just finished watching the video before this when this popped up on my feed . Talk about timing
Damn, another one already? :D
Best podcast ist baack, baby!
(sorry, the joke was right there, I couldn't not do it)
Morrimythal isn't what happened in everyones game. Or has it been said that that is the canon choice?
@@DewelynC It's not choice dependent. Well, tbh, we don't even know if its going to happen, but the theory in the fandom for a few years was that Flemythal had set her 'godhood' aside to be left to Morrigan before Solas killed her. Whether that happened or not is unknown.
Yesterday I mentioned elsewhere that if Solas just gets yeeted out of the game by the MYSTERIOUS FADE FIGURES it'd be a disappointing end to his story but also really fucking funny.
I am now praying that Caitie and I have the same sense of humour.
If every class has a ranged weapon, does that mean you can hit enemies with your staff? 🤔
We're back kids!! Thanks for listening!
I am with Jordan. Wardens for the win. On the Keep, I hope we can hold on to the world states for replays of Inquisition.
Wardens for life!
@@ExaltedMarch In war, victory. In peace, vigilance. In death, sacrifice.
Two StV episodes in two days? We eating good!
🙌
4 years ago I was a field tester for a new system my company is rolling out now so I empathize with you in the respect of alpha testing something and being excited but having no one but the other field testers to discuss it with. You just have to be so excited but have no way to explain why to other people who are going to get the program years later. Now I am on that team and developing the enhancements (what gamers would consider dlc and updates) so I still have that feeling of "guys, it's going to be so awesome you just need to wait!" But at least I have an entire dev team to talk to about the excitement now haha
Glad you guys are back! :)
The gameplay trailer seemed like Inquisition and Mass Effect had a baby.
It's so good that you guys are back, I missed the podcast so much!! ❤
I missed my mama and papa ❤
I loved the trailer and can’t wait for the game to come out
I love you guys. Thank you for providing more Dragon Age content to help us get through the next several months of waiting!
I really hope The Keep stays up cause I'm doing an 100% run through right now and I want to be able to reset my world state if I decide to play differently this time with all the DLCs
1:01:39 Oh good. Phew.... that's great to hear. Thank you, Caitie. Bc yes, I'm one of those negative skeptics until I play through the entire game.
Cheers!
Any theories on the two figures coming through the Fade?
Moon head and beetle head. Looking at the mural in the newest comic the Missing, they are probably Andruil and Ghilan'nain. Catie has made several videos on these two!😊
@@DewelynC I wast thinking Ghilain'nain was one of them, as well, just was not sure on the second figure.
I wonder if we will see some freaky mad scientist creatures
They are both the architect
@@pigdog8228 that'd be quite the twist lmao
For a moment I thought I saw snakes and my mind went to those reptile-like people they found in the deeproads that teleported away
Ghil can you clarify, are you saying you can't pause in combat *at all*?
Also, there is so much info dropped in here, thank you so much for sharing what you can, and thank you for participating in this because I know you pushed this game in the right direction.
You can pause with the wheel.
You can with the wheel. Play Mass effect that is pretty much what it is
I play on console and if Keep is dying I guess in the next few weeks I need to make save games with my world state and make a hard save at the start so I can have my custom world state in DAI. 😂 Say nothing about me another than I find a way. 😅 can’t wait for you to be able to talk about your playtesting experience, Caitie!!
PS
WE LOVE YOU PHOTOMODE GUY. I love photo mode in HZD, excited to have it in DA.
I kinda like the fact that you can swipe between weapons in combat time.
harding and taash get together
And here I thought you got so quietly recently cause you gave up and lost interest... like a FOOL.
Thank you so much for representing us weirdos and making our voices heard by the devs.
Woah. So many videos. I like this. :p
The gameplay trailer was so much better I’m much more hyped now 😂
I am happy that people are hyped and excited but to ignore all the potential red flags due to excitement and hype isn't helping it any.
Solas is 100% going to die in that intro cutscene or get shoved in a locker for most if not all of the game. Which, is going to kinda suck
Thats what I was thinking. If the two figures coming out the veil are who I think they are then its going to be on sight the moment they see him.
I can't help going to the worst possible outcome. Solas won't die yet. Varric is going to sacrifice himself to save Solas because he knows we are going to need him to go against those two gods.
I dont think so. It would be too easy
one more episode and you have the year covered.
im kinda worried for the keep, i love custom world states on DAI. hopefully they find a way to keep them or something.
btw motherblippers, it's the funniest thing I've heard Jordan say
USE THE SOUNDBOARD EVERY EPISODE, it gives a sense of grandeur to the podcast.
i watch the first trailer and was silently upset. only watched like 30 secs of the game-play vid and was sold. it seems like it has that dragon age feel of both campy and dark that i love. the whole cyberpunk fantasy thing Minrathas has is both ridiculous and beautiful while simultaneously fittingthe world perfectly.
So its not open world? But does it have open areas/regions with stuff to explore like in inquisition?
Sounds lile it's going to be like ME trilogy
Yes there was a post that said it is mission based but has explorable/optional regions and a hub area.
@@DewelynC I’m all for it, ME 2 is one of my fav games
Poor Varric-his face when Bianca broke had me tearing up. I felt his pain, and Varric, my storytelling dwarf, I was crying with you. That is what I mean by character development. You can feel and see their emotions.
Split the Veil fans eating! 🎉

I’m a self proclaimed edgelord and I still wince when I hear a character say it 😂
I can easily imagine Varric making fun of it.
I agree it's pretty edgy
It's pretty cringe
"For those of you who are new here maybe it surprises you but for people who have been looking at this stuff it almost is like a rite of passage at this point for a Bioware game to get a trailer that doesn't match the content"
Bro.
_in a haunted voice_ We don't have any. We keep replaying the trilogy over and over again. That's what keeps us sane.
27:38 THIS MAN GETS IT!
I just hope the world gen system in character creation has some depth to it, I loved every time inquisition made me feel like I was still living in the world that my warden specifically saved.
And I hope we meet Shale in Tevinter and can help her turn back into a dwarf 🤪
Sad :(
This is great can’t wait for more.
Caitie, you're not wrong on who sang that song. It's David Bowie's Heroes, just in case you're curious.
Jordan, you definitely shouldn't rate the gameplay trailer out of 10.
Split the Veil rates out of 7.
Seriously you are absolutely right. Well done, listener friend. 🤝
I’m very excited for the game, but honestly I am more excited for any content that Jordan and Ghil make with this upcoming release.
Omg 2 episodes in a week ????
Pondering about Caitie's comment on the thing after the other elven gods rising up
..i mean solas getting jumped and pulled into the veil would be hilarious but also not??? i wonder 🤔
