I absolutely love stories of the fae and related Celtic beasts. Such an untapped fodder for creepypastas, I think. This was beautifully constructed, although I found myself rooting for the kelpie soon into the story. Not very often that a main character is dumb enough to almost get eaten four times, and how it was sold to a family with another equally foolish youngster? That kelpie will surely never run out of fresh meat.
Part of me thinks this Part is sure that they somehow lured him, compelled him Made him forget his grandmother's stories and at one point that he could not swim
Love this story and your page! Your narration is perfect, most people who share scary stories of RUclips try to exaggerate their voices in effort to sound more scary, which ruins it for me. You deserve way more subs, but you have definitely earned mine! Keep them coming, you’re awesome!👏
I love old world folk lore! Why couldn't there be kelpies, selkies and other fey in the bayou? The Scots, and the Irish came here long ago, it makes sense others from the land would also come! Love these kind of stories! So, were the young fiddler and the selkie girls actually ghosts of previous victims of the kelpie? More of these please! I'm surprised grandma didn't give him some kind of talisman to protect him when he was younger!
Puca, that's one way to spell a nature spirit. Pooka. All sorts of different spellings because it's such an old word. In Scandinavia, it's Puke. But it kind of is pronounced the same.
The Kelpie legend suggests that they are able to entice potential victims to climb aboard, sealing their fate. According to the legend people would know of the existence of Kelpies, but would still fall for it, so they must be almost controlling the minds of their victims.
When the world forces me to go AWOL from RUclips for a few days the knowledge I'm missing a Creepy Ghost Story bugs me. Then rationality reasserts itself and am happy in the knowledge I won't have just one CGS to catch up on but two or three. Here I am kicking back for my mini-marathon and one of my favorite storytellers has already wandered straight into 'Deliverance' country and two more stories after this. Life is good ! 😊
He should have burned his grandmothers house to the ground! To have sold it on, knowing what he did, was bad! The dark realm would have seen him as complicit I think in New York at least, if you sell a house & know its haunted, you must inform any buyers! Its law now & if you dont tell & your buyers find out then you are liable & face charges. I think its the same here in UK but im not positive, if you never had any disturbances yourself in the house then the buyers say they have proof its haunted, where do you stand ? Tricky business..🤔 Peace 🇬🇧👧
Yes, you're right regarding selling a supposedly haunted house in the UK, it is currently a grey area. You are legally obliged to declare any known faults in the property, so the buyer would have to prove that you knew the property was haunted, and I've no idea how they'd be able to prove such a thing. Having said that a protracted legal battle could be extremely costly, so it might be better to simply declare that it is supposedly haunted.
@@ianmacfarlane1241so a family wouldn’t lose their little boy to the creatures in the bayou. Selling that house was actually much worse than selling a haunted house to an unsuspecting buyer.

Not a giant crocodile - as stated in the story it was a Kelpie - a mythological, shape shifting water spirit, which usually presents as a horse. This version, (in the video) is a pretty accurate telling of the myth - the Kelpie invites the victim to climb aboard, only for the victim to find themselves stuck, at which point the Kelpie dives into the water, drowning the victim. If you Google The Kelpies you'll see a wonderful sculpture of two Kelpies on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Falkirk, Central Scotland. I've never heard of the myth being located anywhere outside of Scotland or Ireland, but the protagonist references his Scottish Grandmother, so why not have it in an American bayou?
@@ianmacfarlane1241Scotland was once attached to America (granted, a very, very long time ago) so perhaps that was the inspiration or an influencing factor for importing Scottish lore to an American setting 🥰
In general I liked it, but I don't like when authors turn fey into monsters to make it spooky. They are not the same, they "exist" in the world, they are not monsters (certainly not undead), they are magical creatures of nature, and hold no more malice towards humans than wolves towards rabbits.
Lots of fey creatures are incredibly malicious towards humans in their original lore! Kelpies, the nuckelavee, the quallupilluit, sirens. Really fascinating tales that are worth checking out!

The protagonist was frustrating. I understand a kid but adult? Didn’t feel bad for them.

The main character of the story is just pure empty headed from child to adult
