    Two questions:
    1. What's the deal with the Thrice song. Did they use SD3 or did Bob Rock recreate that Drumsound for SD3?
    2. Will there be an EZDrummer version of this?
    Cheers

    • @toontrack
      @toontrack  6 лет назад +4

      Hi Robert. The Thrice song was obtained from Thrice and their management as a demo for the product. Sound designers at Toontrack used the Tracker function in Superior Drummer 3 to replace their recorded drums with the sounds from the Rock Foundry SDX. Therefore the drums that you hear in this video and on Toontrack.com are Superior Drummer 3's Rock Foundry mixed to fit the song. The Drum mix is also included as a preset.
      I can not answer your second question as we never comment on the possibility of future releases.

    Great vid! Bob Rock is a great legend but Joe Barressi records/mixes the best sample libraries ever- The Glamoflauge Kit in particular. HIs Glam pack blows away all other sample libraries admittedly tho due a lot to the fact that he mix processed them and everyone else doesnt but stll... We can only hope and pray that Barressi keeps recording and mix processing expansion packs for BFD and hopefully SD3 now!! ToonTrack Listen Up! Get Joe Baressi on board!!

    • @doublestrokeroll
      @doublestrokeroll 2 года назад

      I believe the reason the platinum sample packs have yet to be topped (my opinion of course) is mostly because of the number of velocity layers they recorded. Every time a new pack/company etc comes out with something I always check to see how many velocity layers and none ever have as many. In fact, it seems like these companies (including BFD's regular stuff) are relying on lower sample layer numbers and "scaling" features to fill in the blanks so to speak. The Platinum samples packs have snares with 250 velocity layers. It's absolutely crazy. I think the time to record such packs is so prohibitive that they don't really want to do that, but I think it matters. Especially if you're an e drummer triggering this stuff.
      Having said all that, this pack looks and sounds pretty amazing based on those demos. That bass drum sound on the 77 kit is amazing. I've never been that interested in superior drummer but this demo does make me think about it.

    • @sn47som
      @sn47som 2 года назад

      @@doublestrokeroll Its not only about the amount of velocities I've learned, the other big part that's even more critical that no one ever talks about is how well the engine and samples trigger. This is the only thing that matters when it comes to playing an e kit. Platinum samples has the most ridiculous number of velocities by far which is nice, but superior drummer and drumasonic samples play way better on a kit and have much less layers. This bob rock pack is phenomenal. It took me a little time to warm up to it but it sounds better than all the other packs except Allaire. Right out of the box it sounds amazing, the room, cymbals, drums

    • @doublestrokeroll
      @doublestrokeroll 2 года назад

      @@sn47som That's a good point. I'll have to take your word for it simply because I don't have superior. I think a lot of the engine issues are also determined by how powerful the computer is. I'm in the process of having everything on an NVMe SSD with a ton of speed. Not that I had any trouble BDF unless it was really maxed out in a DAW. But with 96 gigs of RAM and the NVMe I'm excited to see how smoothly it plays even under the harshest conditions.
      I guess a couple of things have kept me away from superior. I don't think they are as raw as BFD stuff. Everything sounds more produced. And the velocity layer thing. My reasoning for that is noticing the difference in quality between the "regular" BFD stuff and the Platinum Samples. Given the engine is identical for both, the only difference from my perspective is the number of layers. It pretty much comes down to feel. The stock BFD stuff sounds amazing but when I play the Platinum Samples, and close my eyes I get as close as I can to feeling like I'm playing a real kit. That feeling is slightly missing in packs with fewer velocity layers.
      At some point though maybe I'll break down and get superior as well. lol.

    • @sn47som
      @sn47som 2 года назад

      @@doublestrokeroll Well its not the layer count- its the sample engine as I mentioned before. you are missing out bigtime without superior drummer. It plays the best, but its not always the best sounding. 99% of the time bfd3 still has the most detail BUT you would need a lot of gear to make them sound as polished with depth and width and no phase issues as superior drummer. Some days I need vast sounding roomy, airy sounds (sup. drmmr.), other days I need a more close, punchy kit with hyper detail (bfd3 dw mardi gras kit with tempesta snare is glorious) I would love to try it with an ssd. My other fav is drumasonic luxury. It's the sleeper of them all. The drums sound stupid good. The sonor designer in it sounds beautiful. It's very true to the sound- I had a 7 piece designer bubinga kit years ago and it's just about a 1:1 representation of it that was recorded perfectly clean with great gear, tuned very well, etc., etc.. it takes time and patience with these vsti to really get a true authentic drum mix out of them but it's worth it.

    • @doublestrokeroll
      @doublestrokeroll 2 года назад

      @@sn47som The reason I choose BFD in the first place was that it had the reputation for being the most realistic. I basically set my whole system up to be the most realistic drums I could possibly have triggered from an edrum set up. (Roland in my case). I record, and that's important to me, but it's still secondary to realism when I'm playing real time.
      All the research I had done at the time and also listening to the sample recordings etc....made me feel like Superior was lacking something in sound quality in comparison. That and they sounded more processed and "produced" to me as well. I wanted the rawest possible drum sound.
      Originally I built my whole system around maximum performance to deliver BFD at full detail with no compromises. So that meant, after failing with a maxed out PC because windows was a pain in the ass, switching to a 2009 Mac Pro loaded. Worked amazingly well. But of course times move on. I've recently done a complete upgrade on my mac pro to the fast possible processors, 96GB of RAM and a pair of NVMe SSD drives with read/write speeds in the the 1000's of mb/s. So basically the "gear" for me is not a problem.
      I have heard the HH parameters for Superior trigger better than BFD which is one area I've never quite been able to get 100% to my liking.
      Thanks for the info on the other options though. I'm definitely having a much closer look at them.
