  • How many times can I say 'pressure' in one video? The microfreak has CV pitch and gate out, but also pressure out, making for an interesting control possibilities with modular synths - let’s explore some options…

Actually it’s not really the physical pressure you apply to the pcb keyboard, but how much area of your skin is touching the pcb keyboard. So it’s not necessary to tap hard. Try a light touch of a finger barely touching, then gradually “roll down” more of your fingers surface onto the key you pressed 🙂👌 At least that’s how I perceive it.
I’ve got the Microfreak, and just started soldering my first eurorack module. Seems like a really cool controller!

Ah yes, that makes much more sense! Cheers!

Always look forward to your videos… I’m gonna rewatch this and have a sip of rum every time you say “pressure”

Word. When I edited it, I was like, OMG, stop saying 'pressure'...

The hat was actually return payment for a ticket I bought for a friend, purchased from Korg UK themselves at SynthEast (what a day that was!).

Great stuff. The NTS2 almost spelled Moog at 2:08! And I agree, great hat! 🧢

Thanks for the video. Is it possible to play the eurorack and microfreak separately using the keyboard, or the same notes are sent to both? It would be great If I could play the microfreak and also use it to control my eurorack sending different notes, which means having 2 seprate tracks.

It’s a good question! From the manual: “When Sequence A or Sequence B are selected, or when you play notes on the keyboard, the notes are translated immediately into Control Voltage (CV) and Gate signals and sent to the connectors on the back panel. When you play the keyboard in Paraphonic mode while a sequence is playing, the notes you play on the keyboard have priority.” So, no basically. But, there might be work-arounds, you could use a pitch quantiser or similar to add or subtract CV in a eurorack system to change the notes being played, maybe even an attenuator, although this would be somewhat experimental (and only pitched down)! Remember that eurorack control via control voltage is much less sophisticated than MIDI, a module is expecting a certain voltage to alter the pitch of an oscillator. This is my understanding, although someone with more knowledge may know different. Cheers!

My gate out isnt triggering my buchla tiptop 281t trig inputs at v trig 5v, would changing this to v trig 12v damage the inputs?

Honestly, I know nothing about the Buchla ecosystem but my gut instinct says proceed with caution, this may indeed fry your gear. I might think about using an oscilloscope (NTS2?) to help diagnose the issue?
