JOBIE DJ , thanks for writing! I have taught this method for many years and have had numerous people ask or tell me their thoughts on what they believe the opponent could do to me. The two most common are (a) replacing the guard and (b) taking the back. And having been around the block many times, I know that most Jiu Jitsu students do not believe what they see. Rather, they believe what they feel. So, I would ask students to come out and show me what they feel they could do. To date, no one has ever been able to fully replace the guard or take my back. One last thing: I personally developed these new mechanics to prevent students from the three most common forms of resistance, two of which are fully replacing the guard and taking my back 😉
JOBIE DJ , there are two reasons your training partner cannot take your back: 1. The squeezing of the elbows together. 2. The figure-four positioning of both of your arms. When these two things are emphasized each time in training, they may think they can take your back but then once they begin to move they feel tremendous pressure on their elbow and shoulder 😉
Great details. I've been doing Gracie Jiu-jitsu for 18 years and never seen some of these details. -
Thank you!
