I completely agree with your take! As a horror loving girly I am trying to have this discussion with others too. Yet I have become so desensitized that I hadn't realized the disparity of treatment between the female and male body in this movie. So thank you for speaking about it in your commentary!
The director of these films pride and joy is his character Sienna. Even more than Art the Clown his passion is the final girl in the subsequent film. And she is a great female lead imo. Great female character in general. Also in the second film a guy gets stabbed in the 🍆 pretty horrifically Not quite as graphic but just a little balancing of the scales lol
Coralie Fargeat is so intentional with the way she depicts nudity in both of her movies and the industry needs more of it. Can’t wait to watch that reaction!

i genuinely love how she started the movie scared, and ended it by just staring at the screen blankly, unimpressed. I like slasher movies; but that’s really all the first terrifier had going for it. the second one is definitely better when it comes to kills that make sense, and does the campiness better. I understand why people like it so much, but if i wanted to just see pointless gore; i’d watch evil dead.
I think it’s supposed to be off putting and vulgar. The rule essentially in life is no woman or children get harmed they are seen as innocent. So what’s the most vulgar way and grotesque thing we can do to show there are no rules. I think that’s what they did. I wouldn’t be surprised in future films if they castrated dudes and harmed children ngl.
So, this was actually the second film that Art was in. Before this, he was in a film called All Hallows Eve. He harmed children in that movie before this woman. There have been two more Terrifier films since this one. No one is off limits. These movies aren't for everyone, and based off most of the people I have noticed commenting on this video, I am going to say most of her subs are not cut out for this type of horror, but thats okay (:
I feel the same way about the portray of women in horror, howeverrrrr .. this franchise is actually not an example of that. The later movies especially the third the director made a point to prove that his nude kills (hand saw scene) are not senseless nudity for women but that he only chooses that for the soul sake of making the scene more horrifying to watch.
it absolutely is an example of it…what? this movie literally proves that. maybe not the later ones, whatever, but it’s bc this movie was shit on rightfully so and the director changed the other movies
@@TomieBlade this movie was made within the view of the entire franchise he didn’t create it as a single project and change his approach after backlash. This charterer has always brutalized all types of people throughout his creation I see what your saying but this is not an ideal and accurate example of what she was talking about. Something like slumber party massacre would be a better example of senseless nudity toward women in horror.
19:20 this is very real for the genre in general, but especially for this particular franchise. it’s not just about engaging an audience through horror, gore, and jump scares: there is also a very prominent element of showcasing specifically gendered, specifically sexualized violence against women that is sensationalized in a way that is not equally applied to the male characters who are killed in these movies.
i think what i mean to say is that in addition to being gratuitous, it replicates and reinforces violence against women, rather than simply portraying it
Why don’t you guys don’t watch it?? theres a scene equivalent to the chainsaw scene in terrifier 3 with a man, stop getting offended by everything holy crap
On the topic of women being tortured in graphic ways, I think it's the idea that if a man can hurt a woman or child he can hurt anyone. But you can't show children being harmed in films so women are the next target. If it were just men hacking other men up I think the shock value is less extreme.
Thank you!! 🙏🏻 no plot. Brutality towards women for no reason, no character development. Just gross. Put a bad taste in my mouth and I don’t give a fuck, I any watching the other ones either. I was laughing the first time I watched this movie, up until the pussy sawing scene… after that… I started to have a panic attack and wanted to puke.. I wasn’t okay. And I DON’T mean that as a compliment. 😬
PLEASEEEE WATCH THE SECOND ONE, I promise it’s a lot better!! Also Art (the clown) WAS a person up until his death, now some demonic entity is working to keep him alive.
Edit because im commenting as im watching: Both sequels do have violence against the penis! :D I'm definitely with you on the nudity, but I've heard (i think in an interview with the director) that having more clothes on would've made it a lot more difficult to get the shots consistent, and this first movie was very low budget. It's definitely still uncomfortable but it checks out. The sequels are way better in terms of how the female characters are portrayed and killed. The clown is also way sillier in them. :D
I think I was much more worried for the actress talking about having to do the body mold and getting stuck in it for a bit where they almost had to take her to the hospital before they got her out.
Also in the scene where he's literally sawing her in half, the clothes would offer more resistance to the saw so I can kind of understand the way it's laid out.
Thanks for watching. So now I can avoid this and the other two parts of it like a plague. It will never sit right with me when men write torturing women specifically.
I watch Dead Meat/James A. Janisse's Kill Count videos, and I noticed that there are almost always more male victims in horror movies than female. This really surprised me as a lifelong horror fan, so I started paying attention more to the gender treatment while watching horror movies. Male victims are almost universally killed very quickly, while female victims have extended chase/torture scenes. (This doesn't just include the Final Girl of the movie.) And the main reason for the gender disparity is that nameless cops in movies are almost always men, and there are TONS of scenes where the killer takes out a bunch of random cops who aren't actual characters. Women actually consume more horror than men, but the violence and nudity is still noticeably exploited against women.
In the third movie they def took the complaints of people saying art only focuses on attacking and mutilating women. Cause in the third movie the most creative/ brutal kills are now kills that were on men. So the director def listened and grew as a director after the many complaints of the first movie
You bring up a fantastic point about the way women’s bodies are depicted in horror movies and that goes hand in hand with the type of violence being afflicted against women in these movies as well. I think you’d really enjoy The Substance if you haven’t seen it yet!!!

Have you ever used a saw? They bind up on clothing materials. Would you rather him having to take the saw out and clean the teeth from fabric every couple feet? Nope. Sorry. That's why she's naked. The only one in the movie actually. Hope you failed your thesis on some poor attempt to be smart
portrayal of female nudity has always been unfair in the industry but it's not only on the horror/gore genre, i actually think those 2 are the best because if you watch Terrifier you get Female Nudity but there's also male nudity in films like it, a huge example is the movie ''i spit on your grave'' [amazing saga of movies btw], overall in hollywood you'll never get to see more than a man's ass because the actors don't want to show it and if the role requires it they hire doubles while female actresses have a fucking museum of them naked, the amount of female frontal nudity vs male frontal nudity is ridiculous. PS: of course i LOVE actors like Barry Keoghan who go full nude and i praise them, this is not something all actors do sadly.

The nudity makes sense to me. Much more *terrifying* as well. Alot of the serial killer psychopaths takes off their victims clothes and does something sexual to them. The scene wouldn't have the effect without that nudity
Half the comment section doesn’t understand what “horror” means. It doesn’t have to fit your standards, it’s going to be shocking and sexualizing because it’s made to disturb you. Thats what makes these movies so scary
I love horror flms and idc about gore but the fact that this movie has a NAKED woman being chainsawed in half makes me never wanna watch it. Apparently the 3rd one has a woman "stimulating" herself with a piece of broken glass. I find those choices very disturbing and they make me question the directors choices cause ..... how do you come up with those and how do u actually think they're good ideas ? I dont think there should be an actual censorship but the fact that a MAN chose to sexualiz3 the torture of women will never sit right with me. I totally agree with everything u said. I've been following u for years and as soon as I saw the upload I knew u would comment on that scene. love u
Apparently he’s a supernatural being, which explains his teleportation, he also keeps his victims alive so they can suffer then he decides when they finally die like that’s so fkd Edit: oh and also he never dies…
The murders of Dawn and "Cat Lady", as she is referred to in the credits, are clearly a call back to the inspiration for the Leatherface character in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", Wisconsin farmer, grave robber and murderer Ed Gein. He strung up and gutted one of his female victims like deer, and made face masks and at least one female body suit out of the graves he robbed. His two confirmed murder victims were women in the local town his mother had denounced to him while she was alive, the story goes. So if you're wondering where the slasher movie convention on how female bodies are treated when killed, you can blame my home state of Wisconsin. Ed specifically. This year is the 40th anniversary of his death in Madison, Wisconsin at the state mental institution. I was a teen living in Madison at the time, but have no memory of the news of his death.
People saying “he evened the gore out in the other movies between men and women” honestly idgaf the whole plot of brutalizing woman in general is just torture🌽 if you have to strip women naked and drag out their deaths in order to gain any sort of reaction from the audience you’re just a lazy writer

slumber party massacre (the first one) is a strange movie for me cause sometimes it feels like it leans into the stuff it's criticizing a bit too much, if that makes sense?? still a fantastic movie, and the sequels are just amazing
@@valeriarossini543 That makes sense to feel conflicted like that, the original script SPM was meant to be very satirical and poke fun at how women get treated in horror, but when it was bought it was reworked to be more straightforward, although you can feel the elements of its satire in it. the woman who directed it also talked about how the execs were the ones wanting more... voyeuristic shots of nudity and she just said fuck it i'll do it so he can leave me alone for my next project
TRIN you are glowing!!! your hair is so shiny and gorg and just your face ugh
glowing? she got fat how is it glowing
First and foremost, love ya! Excited to see a new reaction!
Second, I work in healthcare and I say this with all love, what you’re reading is blood pressure. There should be a heart beat reading on the screen but I think you just got mixed up. If you ever do this again, there’s a lovely little finger one that doesn’t have to squeeze your arm. ❤
I haven't finished this video yet but you NEED to watch terrifier 2. It is so much better and Sienna is such an awesome final girl!
Yess I need this
so true!!!
Someone tell her to watch Terrifier 2 for equality cause she can get what’s she’s looking for in that film 😂😂😂 same with the 3rd
22:45 its the "ok we are gonna massacre this woman and then NOT implement feminine rage revenge after" that gives me ick from these movies
well yes because horror movies are sexist.
the final girl in 2 and 3 goes pretty hard, art the clown gets his ass whooped
you are braver than the marines! 😭

ok but collab please

yesss love the conversation about womens bodies in horror, I think it's so important that more people talk about this!!
i was watching this with my bf and i literally had to turn it off. he's like the nightmare version of all my anxieties of 'man following me when im out at night'.
this video is already a 10/10 but then adding in that the device you use measures blood pressure and not even heart rate makes it a 15/10
it shows her heart rate as well
You should check out "You're Next". That's one of my favorites. Badass final girl in that movie
such an underrated horror film
@@lovelyhorror1this movie is actually really popular
I remember trin mentioning she watched and loved it
the blood pressure machine used as a heart rate monitor and the “heart rate” being an almost text book normal blood pressure reading is absolutely sending me. i have laughed so hard i literally can’t 💀😂🤣

19:02 This is literally what I know this movie for and why I keep clear of it. Like as a big horror girly I’ve definitely noticed that a lot of horror movies LOVE to sexualize violence against women, but this movie is so uncomfortably blatant about it. Clearest example of fetishizing women’s pain that I could possibly think of
Thank you sm for this because there was no way I was gonna watch it on my own💀
The blood pressure readings makes this the perfect video I love it
Trin, honey you did the right thing with the blood pressure monitor bc it reads both BP and heart beats so dont feel bad! And BP is affected by our emotions and how fast our heart beats because it fucking moves our blood! It's just that people like to correct others
I swear Trin and Caitlin are braver than me because I refuse to sit through any of these movies.
I get more creeped out than scared when watching most horror films. I loved Longlegs because it’s the first film to consistently give me chills because of how realistic the baddie is.
Also in the second film a guy gets stabbed in the 🍆 pretty horrifically
Not quite as graphic but just a little balancing of the scales lol
yeah Terrifier 2 is much better in this sense
Terrifier 3 balances the scales significantly. Trust.
Watch the SUBSTANCE

Coralie Fargeat is so intentional with the way she depicts nudity in both of her movies and the industry needs more of it. Can’t wait to watch that reaction!
@@samanthawilliams549 exactly!!! When Trin was talking about nudity with a purpose. Being such a full frontal film and being so camp at times but also being so meaningful
@@mollythompson4865 I was a huge nerd for Revenge when it first came out and wrote a whole piece about her incredible use of nudity and the male gaze (themes that also show up in The Substance). I’m so glad Fargeat is getting her shine.
Does it have gore? I wanna see it so bad but I cannot handle gore/torture at all.
Omg Trin your hair is insane😍
i genuinely love how she started the movie scared, and ended it by just staring at the screen blankly, unimpressed.
These movies aren't for everyone, and based off most of the people I have noticed commenting on this video, I am going to say most of her subs are not cut out for this type of horror, but thats okay (:
the director deffo listened to the criticism, and made sure that Art targeted EVERYONE and dehumanised them all 😭
well no. lest we forget what happened to that one girl in her bedroom.
@@cambenji yeah and that guy got his dick ripped off and got his face mangled. your point?
@@cambenji who cares if it's a male or female, just enjoy the movie ffs
I love how blunt you are in this video specially. You are such a queen for watching a movie you hate for your viewers👑
@@shae_t4330 whatever you want to believe
OMG YES TRIN, we are sooo back w the horror films
19:20 this is very real for the genre in general, but especially for this particular franchise. it’s not just about engaging an audience through horror, gore, and jump scares: there is also a very prominent element of showcasing specifically gendered, specifically sexualized violence against women that is sensationalized in a way that is not equally applied to the male characters who are killed in these movies.
i think what i mean to say is that in addition to being gratuitous, it replicates and reinforces violence against women, rather than simply portraying it
No
@@americand0lphin Yes
Why don’t you guys don’t watch it?? theres a scene equivalent to the chainsaw scene in terrifier 3 with a man, stop getting offended by everything holy crap
@@daytonsouthall1137 asking trin (whose job is media critique) not to engage with media critically is crazy work 💀💀
On the topic of women being tortured in graphic ways, I think it's the idea that if a man can hurt a woman or child he can hurt anyone. But you can't show children being harmed in films so women are the next target. If it were just men hacking other men up I think the shock value is less extreme.
Oh, Art harmed children before this movie. It's shock value for sure. Nothing is off limits.

Also Art (the clown) WAS a person up until his death, now some demonic entity is working to keep him alive.
the terrifier was probably one of the most rancid movies i’ve ever watched-
Edit because im commenting as im watching: Both sequels do have violence against the penis! :D
I'm definitely with you on the nudity, but I've heard (i think in an interview with the director) that having more clothes on would've made it a lot more difficult to get the shots consistent, and this first movie was very low budget.
Watch 2 and 3 they're actually good movies
@@ethanhart129no
I let out a mischievous chuckle like some sort of villain when I saw the title of this video.
126 over 80?? baby thats a good blood pressure to have im lost where is the pulse 😭
You bring up a fantastic point about the way women’s bodies are depicted in horror movies and that goes hand in hand with the type of violence being afflicted against women in these movies as well. I think you’d really enjoy The Substance if you haven’t seen it yet!!!

If you want a good recommendation for male genitalia mutilation/kill to balance that criticism out I’d highly recommend a movie called
“Terrifier 2”.
If it helps he saws a naked man in half with a chainsaw in the 3rd movie

So many people talking about her bringing up the nudity, but no one is talking about how that same rant had her saying Art dragged them to his lair…literally the building one went to pee in because the car broke down in front of it. That’s not even the only off thing I heard her say, to where I felt like, “Did she not catch that during editing?”

18:55 i wrote a portion of my final thesis on this scene!! i completely agree, the portrayal of women's bodies in horror media is so disturbing and can be really dangerous for us in our everyday lives
PS: of course i LOVE actors like Barry Keoghan who go full nude and i praise them, this is not something all actors do sadly.
portrayal of nudity*** also don’t make entire paragraphs on topics you have NO business speaking about and know nothing about 😂 you’re WAY too old to be acting like this

you should react to saw next!! the first one is more of a psychological horror. there’s not much gore/torture and the ending is CRAZY
I think that the reason why women are always naked in horror movies is because it displays a different type of vulnerability in a horror movies
Trin at the beginning of the movie: "I hate him"

i feel the exact same way about the movie.... i've been meaning to watch it but that clown scares me so much lmaooo 😭
The nudity makes sense to me. Much more *terrifying* as well. Alot of the serial killer psychopaths takes off their victims clothes and does something sexual to them. The scene wouldn't have the effect without that nudity

That film is my annual birthday film, I watch it every year on my bday since I’m an October baby 🎃🖤
I've been following u for years and as soon as I saw the upload I knew u would comment on that scene. love u
😂 for the sake of disturbing the viewer and clearly it worked well on you.
I haven’t seen the third one so I can’t comment on that but the girl getting sawed in half is an actual older method for torture/execution.
The third movie also has dicks getting mutilated so like where do we go from there?
You're cherry picking what happens in these movies to support your "argument"
Why don't you actually watch the movies then have an opinion on it
Apparently he’s a supernatural being, which explains his teleportation, he also keeps his victims alive so they can suffer then he decides when they finally die like that’s so fkd
Edit: oh and also he never dies…
Not a professional killer, but I would assume it was easier to use a handsaw on a naked body versus trying to get through clothing as well...🤔
i’m crying at u confusing a blood pressure machine with a heart rate monitor
I’m sitting in the corner of my room with my harry potter blanket and my water bottle cowering in fear with you. ☺️🫶🏾
One of my fav horror films- it's the 80's Blob remake. It has equality kills. One hot character, he dies early and brutally and so does the kind bar tender lady. Every victim has equally disturbing deaths from the blob
