Most of you commenting have no clue about history and you're viewing it only from a one sided perspective. Most seem to ignore the fact that various tribes killed each other mercilessly and took the won territory as their own personal hunting grounds. Wars and death were waged on this continent long before white people settled here. Looking through the commentary one would think that the Native Americans were innocent angelic creatures who were above violence of any kind. That notion is far from historical fact. Native Americans killed and conquered each other all throughout history and yet this fact seems to be unknown here. There were atrocities on all sides: Native American against Native American, Native Americans and Europeans against each other and Europeans against Europeans.

This is so true. That's one of the reasons that the native tribs were so easy for the white man to
beat. They were never unified. It was easy for early explorers to pit one tribe agents another. If they had joined forces agin the white they would have stood a better chance......

Yeah no I'm an iroquois member we conquered tribes left and right or integrated them into our confederacy I don't know why people say we lived in peace we were so vengeful we killed our selves (not suicide) pretty proud of the fact that we had the best tribal comfederation north of Mexico but there is one thing we never did that the White man introduced never before had we killed an entire village like the British or calvary

My father was born july 1888 of the Osage tribe. He and his two brothers left in 1902, each went a seperate way. He was 14yrs old at that time. He never talked or told us anything about his life. I know very little, probably could tell all I know of his life before he raised a family. Im the youngest of four. Im 61. Dad died in 1980 at the age of 92. He was 68 when I was born. Sure wish he would of told us the stories of his life.

I have been reading some of your comments, since some of you non Natives, or non Lakota/Dakota/Nakota people seem to know so much about us, let me enlighten you a little bit. We are not all drunks, some of us do go out into the non native World to receive an education and then return back to the reservations to help our people. Yes our reservations are poor, yes there are many addictions that plague our tiospaye ( communities) but to say we are all drunks and do not participate in any of our cultural ways & lifestyle is not true. We do have many that succeed, its just nobody ever wants to speak of that, just all negative things I read that people say about us. Wowičaké šni ča ayuštaƞ ye.

Old translators interpreted it that. Many years later, though, other translators noticed the error. The original translators had translated the word Elohim as "angels" was Elohim, but it actually signifies the tri-une Supreme God - Father, Son and Holy spirit. Newer Bibles, printed within the last 20 years have reprinted that as it should be that, "man was created a little below Elohim" (God).

Ignorance is America's poison. I am proud to be Native American, of the Cheyenne & Sioux tribes. We are fighting an endless fight to reclaim our ancestral lands and to protect our sacred sites. We believe in the power of prayer to the Creator. We are not all alcoholics. We are literally colliding between two worlds; striving to make the best of our situations on impoverished reservations. Our incomes may read poor but we are rich in our cultural wealth. We are still here! Warriors built of courage, strength & perseverance. Never doubt the heart of an Indian Warrior!

This is among the best miniseries' ever made, in my view. The acting on the native side is just fantastic - it's as if every single one of their best talents showed up for a role in this show. While cinematic renditions can never be "perfect", a respectable amount of the history is presented fairly and accurately, but it is also balanced well by the fictional subplots.
I've probably watched this thing 5-6 times in its entirety by now, and it's a grand adventure every time. I have a very heavy personal bias, favoring the first two episodes, but all six of them combine to make a compelling masterpiece.
For anyone who's attention span is too short to read, or even to absorb Ken Burns' "The West", this makes for a perfect alternative. I strongly recommend both for anyone who's interested in this place and time.

Don't have to worry about that anymore! Just B nice to Siss! Anyway, regardless, the Brutality of the old-time wild West, no one survived too very long, the one's that made it through to California, I am a part of..on both sides. Mixed Immigration, 2xNative American! Although I am All AMERICAN!! But I have respect more for the Indians. Since time began, men just can't STOP FIGHTING, over 1 thing, or another! My ancestors made it to California, my indigenous side fought too, but somewhere in between, someone fell in love with someone, in order for me to be possible. I think that's almost a miracle, to be a Loving, Caring person that came about, of existence, and to teach my children, and others what God, and Love in your heart can accomplish! I just started my 3rd or 4th time through the series. Fiction though it may be, there is a lot of history and a lot of seeing how folks lived then. Lots of distortions & inaccuracies, but as the Lakota
sit around and accept Jacob as their family member a lot of the tradition comes across, too. When Loved by the Buffalo does the Sundance that is true as well. Jacob I guess represents the
number of independent travelers that lived with Indian families and married into tribes. I really love this series. It does tackle some of the social issues of their and of our day. I like the attempt to get the Indian's dialogue across with subtitles and their language spoken by the actors.

I can honestly say that I grew to love them. In Europe the people are in great awe and admiration of the Indians and when they make a movie or write a book about them they always portrait them fair and respectful. I have a real hard time understanding the hatred and disrespect of the white people. I hope there will be a day where we all can enjoy each other without reservation. Until then I appreciate to hear and watch the stories and movies which focus on the human aspects of the Native Americans. We all are part of the same creation.

The Indigenous People of any Country are very special people indeed. They should be honored and kept safe for they were the initial blood and spirit of the Country. They do not need to be crushed and disrespected by the people now living in their Country just because they are different. Their heritage and ways should be kept for prosperity. Shake the hand of an Indigenous person of the Country and help him/her where you can, you are holding the hand of a TRUE American and helping a TRUE American of a Country your Ancestors invaded and made home.

+Neil Huff And where going back in history a few hundred years do you think all of this was brought to and by who to the Native Americans. Whites! True history of these tribes has taken years to be brought out. And had the US Government upheld their treaties of the best land out west is it possible things may be a little different for these people 150 years ago. 1. I am a Whiteman and also a southern white man from Virginia. 2. My dad always acknowledged that on Iwo Jima where he was wounded that the Navajo Code Talkers saved thousands of US Marine lives. Black, White and Indian. He spoke of this as we watched black and white westerns when I was a kid during the 60's. 3. After being divorced and my daughter graduating in 91 I have lived in FL, TN, NM, CO before finally moving back to my home of VA. Honor to have met several different Native Americans in each state. 4. In 2003-2005 at age 47-49 I was the project manager for my companies multi-million dollar contract on The National Museum of The American Indian. As a PM I spent endless hours at this site prior to and up to the Grand Opening. During this time I met many leaders and families of many tribes from across the US, Alaska and Canada. What a privilege. As a kid the westerns always had the Native Americans as the bad people. Finally Dances with Wolves and Into The West gave us insight what these people where like. In regards to wife beaters, child abusers, stealers of cattle and meth and alcoholics, do you honestly think that white people do not have these issues. I've known several over my years that fit that category. Like whites or blacks, is the description you have given about the Crow apply to all Native American People. If so, the same can be said about us white people. In other words I do not believe this to be the case. In regards to your comment of receiving every possible assistance available anywhere in the US, really? Have you ever been to DC or The Indian Affairs. I have. Worked in DC for 12 years. The US Government provides more billions of dollars to people not living in The US than it does it's own people. Enough Said! Back to this great movie.

Sorry, Indrans, all tribes are immigrants of the USA! They also came to America just as any other Americans! So no, they are not a true American if that's how you feel about who gets to pick and choose to be American? My birth certificate says USA, not actually a American? Needless to say the high horse you are chose to throw crap from? Your horse is gone because Indians have no rights to any land or compensation for a thing! That's going to change along with many freebies Indians received and receive today! I would have kept my mouth closed but you enjoyed trying to hurt others? This tells me a lot about you and I could tear u apart for things you said about the white people! There are good and bad with any nationality and you better remember that before you throw shit other people's way! You hurt a lot of people with your delusional American! Indians are immigrants!!!

Neil Huff Exactly Neil, I live part time in Billings MT, and this is exactly what I am saying. We have more trouble with Crow Indians who disrespect everyone by doing these things and much more. I see them throw soiled diapers in parking lots we all use. They do this with everything and this can be dangerous to the health of others? There are garbage cans everywhere the rest of us use? But they won't take the time to seal the diaper and trash it? Your comment covers many ways these people are so I won't go back into those. It's frustrating they will not straighten up their acts. And the rest of us work hard so our taxes go to their Friday checks for doing nothing but drink and do drugs. Now this is fortunately not all of them but unfortunately the majority. Take care friend

This type of series shows us fragments of history that we sometimes take for granted or that we do not really know, invite us to know and study a little more the history of our ancestors, our territories, invite reflection and value that we are the result of that past, with successes and mistakes, but for that is the story "so as not to repeat the same mistakes" and to be better and better ... Greetings from Mexico

He married my 5th great grandmother whom was Cree, I am Metis..
I read one of his journals, reading it took me back to that time, especially the times he spent with different native bands and when he saw a buffalo herd for the first time, that gave be chills but also made me sad that I'll never see it myself.
