V's voice goes well with R&B. He does prefer to sing more slower, softer ballad type songs, but with his range he can make classics.
His song "Sweet Night" is one of my favorites, though it took me several listens to really appreciate it.

For a Baritone in KPOP, V has the widest vocal range (as per real vocal analysts) of Eb2 ~ D6 (3 octaves, 5 notes and 1 semitone), which means he can hit high octaves with ease. .. He is multitalented. A Singer, Dancer, Composer, Producer, Songwriter, Actor, Entertainer, Photographer, Artist.... A jazz lover - He plays saxophone, piano, violin, is now learning trumpet

“Stigma” explores the tragic backstory of V’s fictional self in the BTS Universe. His character is arrested after he kills his abusive father to protect himself and his sister.
Although the “Stigma” storyline is fictional, its raw emotion and anguish couldn’t be more real. V’s lyrics express the growing pains of youth as well as a sense of frustration many young people experience. “I wanted to portray someone young,” he said. “still growing up, crying out in anguish-that feeling of wanting to thrash about and tell the world you’re tired and fed up.” .. “Stigma,” however, is just the first chapter in a story, and that story has a happy ending. V said, “the young person in ‘Stigma’ passed through ‘Singularity’ and ‘Inner Child’ and grew up.”

V's voice got that sprinkle of soul in it. A lot of people can sing from a technical aspect but they can't sell the song or message. You don't really believe them because there's no weight to it. V sings you something and you think "Yeah he meant every word of that". His stage presence is such a quiet but attention pulling thing. He isn't always showy but there's charisma there. BTS concerts are honestly the shit. They really have something. Especially when they're all on stage together and play off of each other's chemistry. Even their award shows have so much effort going into it. Their annual MMA performances are some of my faves with their annual MAMA performances coming 2nd. And of course their actual concerts.

I hope you don’t mind me copying and pasting my reply in the comments here as well in reply. I just think it has information that would help give a clearer picture of the song. To those saying Stigma is BU related… it is not related to the BU. I see so many misconceptions and unintentional misinformation in the comments section. When it comes to Stigma, I believe over they years they chose to be very subtle in how they discussed it because of South Korean societal norms and the delicate and personal subject matter. There is some information that some ARMY are unaware of or very deliberately choose to ignore etc for their own reasons. First I have to say that Stigma is one of those special BTS solo’s. Like a lot of ARMY’s when this song came out and we read the lyrics, I just cried for the amount of pain that they seemed to include. Tae’s live Vocals in the live performance of Stigma are also absolutely insane and really showcase that he has the widest range vocally. His performance also gives me goosebumps. For many years Stigma was a mystery because of what I mentioned earlier and people mistakenly thought it was BU related. Those misconceptions continue to this day. Since so many are unaware and there are a lot of gaps in knowledge when it comes to this song… here are some facts and wider context.
The meaning of the word Stigma itself is important. (Source Namjoon Wings Album review) v-live where he said all the solo songs on Wings had important titles.) A Stigma is usually a sign or mark of disgrace which is generally to do with a characteristic or trait that you cannot change. I.e ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age etc.
Tae wrote this song alongside Philtre, slow rabbit and hitman bang. Philtre produced it. The lyrics are by Taehyung.
Although the Wings short film is titled Stigma and uses snippets of this song. The song has nothing to do with the BU storyline and is standalone. Namjoon confirmed this about all the wings solo’s on his Wings album review vlive in 2016. That they are the members personal stories. He also said that Tae’s storyline in the BU is dark. And this song matches it in that sense. And as everyone knows, all the members solo’s on the Wings Album are about their individual lives. They are used merely as an OST for the Wings short films of the same name. E.g. Begin is about jk coming to Seoul. Mama about Hobi’s relationship with his mum and how she sacrificed so much for him and how he will take care of her now (in the BU his mum abandons him, another clear example that the songs are about their personal life and not BU.)
On the same vlive. Namjoon discussed the meaning of all other solos but not Stigma. He only shared that it has to do with Tae’s personal story so he doesn’t really have much to say on it. That the title was important. And that Tae was very cute when he was going back and forward in trying to decide about his narration of: ‘why did you do that to me’ and ‘are you calling me a sinner’ and whether it should be in English or Korean etc. But when Namjoon heard the full song he understood the importance for Taehyung of wanting to get the narration right and the passing reference I mentioned already to the BU storyline being dark.
When they did the Wings album comeback v-live all the members talked about their songs and meanings. Tae only discussed the genre etc.
Taehyung has a younger brother and sister in real life. (He does not have a brother in the BU another clear reason why it’s not BU related.)
Tae himself had never really talked about the full meaning of the song apart from the process of recording it etc until very very recently where he only referenced the emotions he was feeling when he wrote it (in wewerse magazine 2022), that he was feeling ‘fragile’ and ‘broken’. ‘Like shards of glass’ that he didn’t think could be fixed together again. And that ‘I’m sorry you are hurting like this’ to console his younger self. Before this he only talked about it very very briefly in their tour documentary where he talks about the difficulty in singing it live and his worries and nerves in singing it live and to refer briefly (literally one or two lines) that it references pain from when he can’t undo things and hurts others as a result. This brief mention is what you will see in The Rise of Bangtan Chapter. If you watch it that is.
Now some wider societal context and the impact of Stigma for other communities.
South Korea is a very conservative country in regards to many things culturally.
Thousands and thousands of Queer and LGBTQ ARMY identify with this song and find comfort and solace in it. You only have to read the RUclips comments on this song to see evidence of this. Particularly the line ‘Are you calling me a sinner.’ ‘What more do I have to say.’ ‘Even if I try to hide it or conceal it, I cannot erase it.’ ‘So please dry my eyes.’
Coming back to the song, while for me it’s very clear, and I personally believe because of the many things Tae has said to us and shared with us over the years in regards to movies that have resonated with him, music and lyrics he has shared etc and all the above information, others may have their own theories about what this song is about. (When I say Tae has shared a lot, I mean a lot!)
I will also make reference to the fact that whenever Tae is required to create a character or choose a character that has resonated with him, he chooses those who are different from others in society. In BT21, his character Tata, is genderless, and an alien and outsider. In the 7th ARMY ZIP Membership. Filmed in 2020, released in 2021. Where the members had to choose a fairytale character to be and write a story, with a photoshoot too. Tae chose a traditional old Korean folktale ‘Agijangsu Uturi’ (Translates as Mighty Baby). As people won’t know Tae’s fairytale and he doesn’t really explain it in detail in the video. It’s actually very sad. It’s about someone who is killed for being different. Basically the baby is born with wings to a poor farming family who choose to kill him as they are frightened the authorities will find out.
For their ‘7Fates Chakho‘ Webtoon characters. Tae’s character is a human in love with a ‘Beom’ (Mythical Tiger). Tae’s character is in Tae’s own words: ‘Having a forbidden love. Someone who does not have bias or prejudice and who can love beyond it’s own species..’
So to me it is not a coincidence that Tae appears to sympathise and perhaps empathise with characters that are different. They appear to be like a metaphor for his own identity.
Either way whatever the meaning of the song Tae and every other single BTS member is supported and loved by us all unconditionally. 💜

  • @ralphy383
    @ralphy383 Год назад +11

So this song lyrics was written by Tae himself.
I remember him saying something about how this song is about how he feels pain cause he hurt somebody with his actions, could be members or his siblings (he the oldest in his family and has a brother and sister).
Namjoon said in a vlive that the actual meaning is only known to V who wrote the lyrics.
Here is another fun fact, this song is part of the wings album which is based on the book demian and the book is about coming of age, going through temptation and self doubt etc.
So this song can also be seen through that lens.
Basically he committed a sin against his loved ones and is feeling regret and shame.

before listening to bts i thought every song was pretty much a love song so it took me a while to "rewire" my brain and i have to say this has made things so much more interesting. i think it's one of the many things that drew people to bts. their songs give as much importance and attention to every single kind of relationship be it between you and your siblings, your friends, your parents or anyone else. it makes their music relatable because for most of us our single most important relationship in life might not actually be with a significant other. i love that their music recognises and celebrates ALL forms of bond we have with the people in our lives.
i remember one reactor listened to "magic shop" and thought it was a sexual song and some of the details in the songs led him to believe it was about love making. the comment section was up in arms cause that song was actually a healing song meant to provide psychological and emotional comfort. it was quite the sight to see and reminded me of how i used to interpret songs before discovering bts. so in short, keep an open mind.

As many have pointed out, the meaning behind Stigma is that he asks for forgiveness from his siblings that you could say he left behind when he left home to become an idol, I think that's really more like what he meant. The lyrics of the song also resonate very well with his story in the fictional Bangtan storyline. All solo songs of the Wings album, from Jk's Begin to Jin's Awake, have a double meaning, which echoes both with real participants, each of whom participated in their song, and with their fictional characters from the Bangtan Universe. That's why I still when I remember how thoughtful their story is, I start admiring it again and again.💜
Upd: I will also add that another song Outro: Her rap line (from Love Yourself: Her album) began with the same piano that was at the beginning of Stigma, but in Stigma this is only a live version

As was noted in a previous post, we do not have an exact description of the story behind this song but we know that Tae is the oldest of 3 children. He has a brother and sister.
What I find interesting is that we have very little information about the families of any of the BTS members. There are few pictures. Jimin's father owns a restaurant and has made a few public remarks. Tae was raised by his grandmother on a farm while his parents worked in some town. I don't recall reading if his siblings were also raised by his grandmother. In the West, the private lives of our singers, musicians, and actors is scrutinized in the media. Apparently this is not di e in Korea.

3:30 - Ever since j-hope's Lollapalooza, I've been thinking about what kind of venues V would perform at because his songs are soft intimate ballads, which I imagine would be unsuited for the grand stages that J-hope seems to thrive in. And then RM chose small settings for his performances, so maybe V would do something closer to that.
Then again, who knows. They're always surprising us with their choices. Also, V's "Singularity" is a very intimate performance, and yet he performed it in stadiums, not even arenas.
I love V's songs, just my kind of music. I love his melodies. He has a beautiful falsetto, which he showcases well in his personal solo songs like "Christmas Tree" and "Winter Bear".

We do not know the real meaning and I do believe Taehyung is/was not ready to share that with us. This song is part of their “Wings” album (my favorite album of theirs in it’s entirety) and each member wrote their own solos for it. The solos were for their BU characters in the storyline, but they all related to their personal lives as well. Some we know because the way have talked about the things they wrote before in the past, like Suga’s First Love, RM’s Reflection, Hobi’s Mama and Jungkook’s Begin. I don’t think they ever just wrote songs only for the BU that didn’t relate to their real lives as well.
Like RM said, only V knows the true meaning of the song. I love it because it’s a song that can be up for interpretation and related to you as you listen to it. 😌

To those saying Stigma is BU related… it is not related to the BU. I see so many misconceptions and unintentional misinformation in the comments section. When it comes to Stigma, I believe over the years they chose to be very subtle in how they discussed it because of South Korean societal norms and the delicate and personal subject matter.
They appear to be like a metaphor for his own sexual identity.
Either way whatever the meaning of the song Tae and every other single BTS member is supported and loved by us all unconditionally. 💜

@@Beary95 you have a right to you opinion and I have a right to mine… however mine very clearly has a lot of factual context behind it as well as over 10 years of observation as Taehyung’s fan. If by now you don’t know your artist and what he communicates through various mediums and songs that’s clearly a you thing. Taehyungie is loved and adored under all circumstances. If even the possibility of it bothers you then you should reflect on yourself. Otherwise I advise you to go watch his own lives, listen to his own words and posts and read the inspiration behind many of his photoshoots, concepts and MV’s. Read about his favourite artists, read about characters and movies that have resonated with him and why. Read about his fashion choices which he says is how he expresses himself. The artists whom he likes because of their personal stories as he has said. Take one small example. The film call me by your name that resonated so much with Taehyungie he downloaded the whole soundtrack, talked about it on numerous lives, read dialogue from it on a separate live. played the piano from it, it was mentioned in his official weverse article for his Layover album MV’s, was the inspiration mentioned by his hairstylist in the harpersbazaar interview for the concept of the photoshoot. That’s one film… there are numerous other examples so many I would be here writing essays. Including his favourite actor. Use your brain, when someone has so much interest in queer culture in every aspect of their life and influences, then you can bet it’s because they identify with it. Every other thing I have mentioned is factual… are you waiting and expecting a verbal confirmation? Be real… but first go get to really know the artist you claim to like. When someone tries to show you so hard who they are then do them the curtesy of keeping your heart eyes and ears open, instead of being wilfully ignorant. Supporting him unconditionally should not be hard. Also to bully someone because they take the time to treat a topic with respect and be thorough in their comments and communication is really a cheap thing to do. Don’t be a bully. Incidentally a few years ago when there was a campaign for queer kids who had been bullied, Taehyungie took part and posted the sun on his nose like others who had been too. I’m so disappointed in people who claim to love him but who desperately condition it on him being straight. If you want more examples feel free to write back as I said I could write an essay on all the times he’s shown to have a deep affinity with the community. My last bit of advice, open your heart… love is love in all circumstances. 💜

What I love about old BTS concerts is that they break it up into solo songs, vocal line, rapline, and whole group within the concert. So, at this point, he is doing only one song by himself. I love the concept of this it makes the show way more dynamic. After Covid, they did all the songs together as a group until the last Busan concert, where they did rapline and vocal line, no solo stages. My favorite is when the vocal line does the rap songs like at Sowoozoo.
You nailed it( pardon the pun)
In his Bobby Brown bag. I love V's 90's R & B style. I think ambiguous writing is purposeful. It can be a single relationship, meant for ARMY or philosophical with a deeper meaning. And yes, for us dirtier minded people, will get another meaning. And after all that, it is called Stigma.

As a man raised by older people of generations 2/4 times older than mine. A man having a introspective dialogue isn’t about love persay we are not allowed that space.
Knowing better but being raised that way means I now still default relationships over internal monologue or questioning one’s self.
I’ll have to give it a try to see if that opens any of these songs up to a new meaning for me.

They leave their music open to interpretation right. So each time i discovered something new. BTS literally saved my life and gave me insights into myself. While falling in love with them, i fell in love with me! I hope you try out this angle and enjoy. Try both, it's fun racking your brain. BTS music makes me think so much hahaha

So V is interesting in that this song Stigma sounds romantic and sexy however the lyrics don't seem to be a love song. I discussed this with my wife and she told me no one is 100% what the song is about but one of many theories is its a song of regret for not being their for his siblings because he moved to the city. Can't remember the other theories.
And he has another song singularity. Again, sounds sexy and romantic but the lyrics don't seem to be necessarily about relationships. To be honest, I've read 2 translations of singularity and I still don't know what the song is about

When it’s well written and keeps you looking for new meaning or meaning at all those are the songs I love the most sometimes. Like erykah badus on and on record. I still don’t know what 3 quarter and a dime is. But I’ll never stop trying to gain the understanding while loving the song. I think this and singularity might strike that tone. S/O to the misses for collaborative efforts.

Aaah, see, out of all the vocal line songs you have seen, this is the only one on a bts album, that is why it doesn't make complete sense to you. Singled out, the song seems to be about guilt. I don't think it is romantic, might relate closer to family.
Now what is special about the Wings album, which contains this song, is that it relates heavily with a fictional storyline going through the bts discography. Essentially, all solo songs off of this solo albums have a double meaning, one relating to the character the members represent, and one relating to them personally. The thing is, out of bts, V is the only one that refused to explain what the song means to him personally, so people can only assume. His "character" has a pretty f*****d up story though. Might be a third layer to the song when looking at the album as a whole - one reading of wings is the story of Icarus.

This song is based on V's fictional storyline in Bangtan Universe that runs in some of their mvs, in which his (fictional) father abuses his mother and sister, the 'sorry sister' is for that and 'sorry brother' is for the rest of bts. You will understand it when you get into the BU and watch all the content.

There are a lot of theories about the meaning of this song. The fact is Tae explained what this song is about and even RM said that this song fits Tae’s character in the BU. He was only speculating that he might have a personal meaning behind the song that he doesn’t know about. The fact is that Tae has explained this to us, he has told us that this song is about what his character was going through in the BU from the ‘I need you’ MV onwards. For those who are interested in listening to Tae explain about Stigma you can see a snippet of his explanation @ 0:40 in the following link - ruclips.net/video/_K9w5rLfHK4/видео.html

As any great art, it's up to your interpretation. Some Army will have you thinking every song is solely written with us and that theses grown men never think of anything sexual when writing their lyrics, when in fact we know they all watch porn, let alone that they're in their late 20s and 30s. Prime horny stages of life for many, and they're no different. Many in this fandom want to infantile them because they're uncomfortable with the notion that the guys be getting some.🤪

DWL, your choice of words is hilarious but you are very right! I once saw a comment that said BTS don't sing about romantic love, only self love and I responded to say but what about Boy In Luv, Boy With Luv, Just One Day, Miss Right etc. and what's wrong with singing about romantic love? Aren't they humans? Don't they love? She still found some excuse🤷‍♀

@@nuhkyah23 needed to add the shock value dontchano! 😂 But yes either those making such statements haven't experienced such natural desires for themselves, have trauma around it or are afraid of loosing the guys to it if they admit it imo. Because in my mind there is now way that typically developing humans, can feel so persistently comfortable completely erasing a natural healthy phenomenon of them having and singing about sexual desire otherwise.

Right. I’m like I can’t disagree I’m not that entrenched to know better nor do I have a strong notion I could fullly back. But as a man who writes songs and a lot of sexy or love songs at that. I feel I know when we are making those records. But hey I could always be wrong.
