Never have played with those but have played a E-bow . The E stands for electronic bow and uses magnetic energy to keep the strings ringing and hold sustain, they work best on electric guitars utilizing the pickups. I don’t play it a lot but it’s fun to use from time to time , I will use it with a looper to give me a key to play over with modes . thanks for sharing your notes and notions with us.👍😎👍
I’m afraid the bow is not for me. I could just imagine the rosin inside the guitar hole as well as gunking up the strings. You have a beautiful guitar. Let’s keep it that way…
Personally, I don’t think bowing a six string guitar is a good idea. However, if someone is determined to do it, here is some advice. The old Welch Fiddle called the Crwth has flat bridge and nut, a finger board with four strings over the finger board and two drone strings. On the Crwth all strings are bowed when playing a tune. Therefore, you will need to procure bow for a Nyckeharpa or Bowed Psaltery, use an open tuning (open G, D, D minor, DADGAD, etc.) place your guitar in your lap and bow making good use of both bowed and fretted strings. (Bowed Psaltery bows with synthetic strings aren’t that expensive.). Good luck!
Hello Cindy. I'm glad you made this video. I would never buy the bow ( I can barely play without it I don't need to add an extra element) Since you have to change your strings, will you let me know what brand/gauge strings you like on your MandM guitar? Cheers.
I think it is never a fail if you learned something ... If that is something positive or negative ... you grow in experiences ... Sad you ruined a set of strings ... but the humor of trying is worth it ...
There is a lot to that. The rosin makes sense, but quite a mess and amount of work. You pulled it off - thanks for taking one for the team. I hope the guitar recovers.
🤣👏🏻🤣👏🏻🤣👏🏻🤣👏🏻🤣 I’ve seen these before. People figure out ways to use them, but they look awkward. Others have said they wreck strings too - probably best to use this bow on dead or cheap uncoated strings. I think this is mostly a novelty, but there are ways to use them if it’s just for accents as part of a song in a band or as part of a recording - but probably not good to use for an entire song. An e-bow seems much more usable to play for an entire a song, plus it won’t wreck your strings, lol. Have you ever tried one of those?
Not yet on the e- bow. I need to see what they cost 🤣. One subscriber noted he uses the Pickasso and it’s better quality. He uses it for recording purposes dubbing in cello sound. 😀
Hello! Well,,,it probably has it's place? with a kazoo ensemble maybe? or bag pipes? And WOW interesting for sure! It made me think of the method we use on our guitars. We use a regular violin bow to produce long sustaining powerful tones to locate the 2 bridge feet on the SB's loudest spots. You'd be surprised how little movement it takes to make a big difference. This would be for arch tops only!!. It is especially useful to find buzzing because one can really shake the heck out of the soundboard with varying pitches. Oh-!--------- by the way this would be a good time to clean those strings with straight ammonia. Get them in the ammonia a few seconds is all, then rinse them in hot water, then dry them off,---that is it! . The wound strings are the only ones made tubby/dead by contamination. Plain wires are not. Only three strings.= easy. You try this and you can save time & $ and they tune right up and stabilize right away!! "already stretched" String makers certainly wont mention this. HAH! This can be done as many times as breakage permits. One should take them off the guitar before doing this!---LOL. Be well!
Kazoo’s would definitely add to the fun🤣. I think I should have showcased the real deal. I hear thePickasso is better quality. This one…well I am still laughing 🤣🤣. Thanks for the tip on the strings. ❤️
The one I have is probably going to the salvation army 🤣. If it was the true Pickasso it was probably better. But not if it ruins strings in one setting. On a lighter note… I am still laughing 🤣🤣
Love my Pickasso. I use it to lay cello-like basslines for my improvs. Pickasso does use horsehair. The biggest downside for me is the rosin that rubs off on the strings, it really has to be wiped off after use.
This video was not meant to be a disrespect to the Pickasso. I thought it would be higher quality. Thanks for sharing your experience with the “real deal.” The rosin on this one is sooo bad makes me wonder what it is. It does not just wipe off. Thanks for listening in. I am still laughing at my disaster of a trial🤣
I experimented with the Pickaso bow a year ago. It is better than the one you have. A bit shorter so easier to bow. And the pick is smaller and more reasonable for use. Discovered it took a lot of practice to get the bowing pressure just right and create long smooth notes. It did eventually (sometimes) have a cello-like sound. But I gave it up mostly because of the mess of cleaning up. And finding the proper bowing pressure was often hit or miss. If anyone wants to experiment, you can simply try bowing with a wooden pencil. It works
Thanks for sharing about the pickaso bow. I could see in the videos it had to be better quality. Given the mess, I agree, no thanks. But I am still laughing over the Eastrock bow 🤣🤣. Will definitely check out the pencil…then go back to picking. 🤣🤣
