I was in a thrift store and there was another guy there with an armful.of CDs. As I began to browse, I found Beatles, Floyd, Zeppelin. I looked at the guy and he looked at me. I said "This is 'that' day, ain't it?" He nodded "Yep." Best thrift score 'til this one. Good job, Heath!👍

That's fantastic! When you can be in the right place at the right time, it's magic. I've been lucky enough to have a few great music hauls over the years and it's such an exciting feeling.

My best thrift store score was an original working Dark Tower game in box with only 1 piece missing. It was $2.
    I loved the Ultra-Lounge CDs.

Thank you! Whenever I think of the Never Ending Tour I am not anywhere I think to look up the opening act. BSO was good, but Dylan sounded superb. Your comment prompted me to check and confirm that Setzer was the opener.
    Nice haul too.

My best music find at Goodwill was like 6-7 vintage Rush vinyl still in great shape. At .79 a piece it was a steal. Gave a couple to my brother and kept the rest. Crazy find

On my last thrift stop I got a VCR, which was exciting to me because after the last died I haven't played any of my VHS for a couple years. This is my kind of shopping--I can afford it and shop like God intended--holding the merchandise and paying in cash. Great haul. I love the outlaw stuff, but haven't gotten a lot further than greatest hits and a few of their famous albums. Definitely want to dive deeper, especially with Jennings and Haggard.

Omg - Heath , I love Cherry Red Records !!! I’m a huge classic rock fan (in general) , a fan of progressive rock , but also the roots of all the music …. Cherry Red has so many great subsidiaries!! I buy a ton of their Esoteric label , but got something that crosses over to your pick ups CR’s , Lemon label out out a complete recordings of Brinsley Schwartz recently . They were a UK country rock band of the 70’s . They had Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm in the band (both went onto solo success) and the band recorded a Nick Lowe song that would get covered by Elvis Costello ,”what’s so funny about peace love and understanding “ …… the label does such a superb job with reissues , remastering , liner notes and bonus tracks . Being a history major I am enthralled with the Blake’s efforts .
As always , I love the topic , either your thrift store pick ups !! Wow ! Keep it up !!!
    Chris , Johnston RI

I have been fortunate enough to be able to interview Deana Martin twice now. I am mostly sent Rock and Heavy metal to review and/or interview.

That's a great haul. I once found what was clearly someone's Johnny Cash collection at a Goodwill and picked it all up. It's definitely cool to find what's obviously a collection together like that, though. But it does make you wonder about the previous owner.
Interestingly, my stores seem to get donations in from media resellers who are purging stock surplus as well as local folks in the community. I say that because there's always new stuff out on specific days of the week and there will often be multiple copies of the same DVD or Blu-Ray or CD that pop up on those new days. I've also noticed that if a 4K is released then blu-ray copies of that film will start showing up or if a movie is released on blu-ray for the first time ever... the DVD copies will begin showing up. For example, as soon as Pump Up the Volume was announced on blu-ray, multiple copies of the DVD were at all of the local Goodwill stores. Same with Red Eye once it was announced on 4K (I now see copies in all 3 local stores); Nothing But Trouble on blu-ray resulted in lots of copies of the DVD popping in; etc.

OMG ... The Rat Pack, and Ultra-Lounge!!!! My mind is flooded with images of dinner jackets with black bow ties and martinis. I LOVE that set (though my copies are digital downloads rather than the actual discs). One of the tracks on the Ultra-Lounge disc was by someone known as The Continental, a speaking track underscored by an organ, that has to be heard to be believed.
re: Beatles covers - I expect that you may know this particular one, but my favorite is SGT PEPPER by a group known as Big Daddy, a cover of the entire Sgt Pepper album, in late fifties styles. There is nothing on this planet like their Jerry Lee Lewis version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Otherwise, though, any of Aretha Franklin's covers ... I swear that at least a third of Aretha's purpose on Earth was to cover songs and do them better than the original artists.
    Great haul.

I love the Salvation Army. Mine always has 50% off physical media. So blurays $2. DVD's $1.50, CD's $1. I usually pick up Blurays and DVD's. DvD's for non-blurays or hard to find titles. Sometimes DVD's if I don't enjoy movie enough to warrent upgrade.

I saw with Merle Haggard with Willie Nelson too toward the end of Merle's life in Concord, NC. That's a great group of CDs. Shooter Jennings is good, but I prefer the variety in Hank III's discography. Out of the outlaw country era my fave is always going to be David Allan Coe.

You may want to go back and give some of these artists another shot! A lot of this stuff sits at the crossroads of rock, country, blues, folk, and even jazz. Waylon, for example, was a member of Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets. Willie is as much jazz as country. Merle Haggard is pretty straight honky tonk, but these guys were about as rock and roll in spirit as you can get.
