- The Two Feather Fly was created by the great Catskill tyer Harry Darby, and is one of the simplest dry fly patterns to tie in terms of materials. This fly creates a perfect silhouette and will float extremely well with a little bit of dressing. In this video, Kelly shows you how to tie the original as well as his Found Link variation.

Harry Darby writes about the genesis of this fly in Catskill Flytier (pg. 55). He was trying to create a very light fly that would land more delicately on the water than the typical #10 dry that was popular at the time. He eventually settled on a #16 4XS, and did the wings both upright and spent. He says Al McClane wrote about the pattern in the October 1960 issue of Field & Stream, and it sold well because of that article. I've been tying a bunch of these this winter, and have been cutting some of the fibers from both sides of the extended body below the tail to make an even more slender profile, leaving only 1MM or so of fiber on each side of the shaft after the tie-in point. Definitely a fly that calls for steady hands and cheaters, but a simple beauty. Great video, as always. Thank you.
Great insight and a beautiful fly pattern. Thanks for these videos, Kelly, gonna watch them all.
Beauty. Thanks for sharing, Kelly.
Kelly, I enjoy your videos because of the great explanations upfront of the what and why you do the flies. This video is no exception.
Thank you.
I hit a rising bite this week on the Catawba in NC with this fly and it was killing it. Thanks for sharing Kelly, always the most informative videos.
Damn, as soon as I thought I invented a fly, a few days later I see this. I was so proud I thought it was totally original😂😭
Love your instruction. Picking up alot as you go. I'm a Marine Corps Vet been with Project Healing Waters for 5 months now and trying to remember everything.
Both variations look fantastic. Bookmarked this for the coming days when I can get the time to tie a few, great video guys
Such a great video. Nice easy fly and a liece of history also!
Loved it. You could spend the rest of your youtube career explaining unique patterns of the past.
I really like that one will help me out a bunch Kelly Montana
Cheers ......nice ties Kelly.
As always, great job. Hope everything turns out well for you.
Hatch master. I gave one to my brother in law last year on the trinity. He swore the fish took it before it hit the water.
Now that's a great looking fly ! :-) 💥 may not be very durable but its cool
Thanks I like 1 or 2 material flies. I have thousands of Vintage Mustad Norway hooks. The new hooks I don't care for.
The Up Eye Mustad is still available. I enjoy the American catskill flies, I have a book THE BEST 1000 good photos and material explanation..
Nice 👍
can we see the detailed explanation vs. the true tie time?
