I loved this game as a kid. Completed it, but I still love to see the story unwind. This game was something else. I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time. It seems unforgettable once you heard it, whilst playing.
Admittedly the story of this game wasn't something that clicked with me when I played it as a kid, nor was it interesting aside from the more surprising parts such as the fate of some of Will's friends. It wasn't till later that I paid attention to the story and was kinda blown away by it.
I'm replaying it now over 20 years later and the same thing is happening to me. I'm enjoying the story more and I say even the game itself. This game is a true gem.
Damn, now I have to replay it. I beat this game a bunch of times as a kid & teen but now that I'm much older, I 'feel' like you're right and I will get a lot more from it than I did back then. You're on.
I remember this game very well. I got it in 1994 when it first came out and the game cartridge came with an Illusion of Gaia t-shirt. Still have it too. This ended up being one of my favorite Super NES games, along with the first Mario Bros game for the SNES, Zombies ate My Neighbors and the third Legend of Zelda. This one I felt is similar to the game play and format of Secret of Evermore and Secret of Mana. Both also great games BTW. But this game has always held a place in my sentimental memories… Thank you for uploading this and props for playing it start to,finish in 7.5 hours 👍
I remember playing the trilogies back on my old Super NES console; they were Illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer, and Terranigma. They need to make a remake with a 3D version of these games. I have always been hooked on mysteries, action adventures, and puzzle-solving games that were my jam back in childhood. Sure brings back old memories, that are for sure. Thanks for the excellent gameplay and memories.👍👍 Wold of Longplays can not wait to see if you played the other two games of the trilogy.
Unfortunately, the creator of the series is on record as saying he’ll never go back to them and has no interest in developing remakes. Since he owns the copyright, it’s very unlikely to happen.
So glad to see this getting some love in the comments. This was the game that showed me as a kid how these "silly video games" could be just as valid as a storytelling medium as books and films. It broke my heart, and frustrated me at times, but man what a journey. Criminally underrated game.
@@Rokabur Oh I agree, but as I was 12 when it came out, I was more into beat 'em ups and shmups (the latter still applies!), so this is the definitive one for me that introduced me to RPGs.
I remember waking up at like 7:30am on a Saturday and looking through my games to decide which one I wanted to play that morning before breakfast. I’d often choose this one, but I couldn’t have been older than 4 or 5 so I never got very far. The furthest I’d ever get is the Incan dungeon. It was so surreal discovering this game so many years later and finding out what came after that part.
beautiful. I was also about 4-5. I cant wait to dive back into it. The soundtracks, music is what ties all the memories together. To play and beat the game will serve as homage to the past.
I used to play this with my siblings but one day we lost it and couldn't remember the name of the game. So I asked ChatGPT as I remembered it has a flute and it helped you solve some puzzles. Last time I played this I was 12 or 13. I'm 34 now and I'm so happy ChatGPT helped me found it. I might download it later and play it again. I'm so happy
46:03 This tune has been stuck in my head since like 95. My neighbor had this game and I wiuld watch him play for hours. I could always remember this tune but couldn't remember the name of the game, until now😂😂😂
I don't know if it was because I had the European release of this game or something, but the fisherman that catches a Red Jewel in South Cape never had one on my playthroughs. Was always stuck on 49 Red Jewels at the end.
The fisherman has the jewel when you're leaving the cave after progressing the story. It's a very brief window of time for it to be there and if you checked it before entering the cave it's very easy to miss
...theres more than one? Why didn't you tell me??! 😄 Seriously, i thought this was a stand alone: i heard about sequels ages ago, but i thought they got scrubbed!

You've never played a Zelda game before then or you're just talking out of your ass. They aren't even remotely similar, aside from the fact they are both games with a fantasy setting. If anything, Illusion of Gaia has more in common with Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu, though the inverse could be said as well since they both came out the same year and quarter.
