- The United States is on the verge of a federal government shutdown that could disrupt many non-essential services nationwide if Congress fails to enact a funding plan by Sept. 30, 2023.

Even if it shuts down...they've already said the endless stream of money to Ukraine WON'T...they're going to make an exception for Ukraine. This is beyond disgusting.

The threat of a shut in government happens every year, really every fiscal year. To stop this behavior, all politicians that are responsible to balance the budget and fail to do so by the end of the fascial year should be penalized from being elected for the next term of office. They literally have nothing to lose IMO. This would curve that behavior to a degree and ensure we the people would get politician in office that are more concerned about balancing the budget instead of personal, religious and party biased reasons that hold up the budget every year.
That would mean one party suggests some ridiculous plan and with that they force the others to not be reelected?

Nope, the people still get back pay after those stupid Republicans get done trying to steal the food from the mouths of kids to give tax breaks on yachts and private jets to billionaires. The tax dollars were allocated by Congress, so the President is legally obligated to spend the funds Congress has allocated for the budget, but Congress just doesn't want to pay for their own spending bills. That's what a government shutdown is, and, when the time comes to negotiate the new budget at the end of the year, they'll do the same thing all over again.

15 years ago this was a startling thing. Govt employees were concerned. Since then though folks in the government learned this is essentially a paid vacation. Every shutdown was followed by a large backpack check once the govt restarted. Govt employees have learned to save in preparation for these unanticipated vacations. Banks will even give short term loans for these shutdowns, knowing the govt will provide back pay.
That's not true..most people live paycheck to paycheck, and I'd like to see people like you live for weeks without any income. Plus, our military have to work, and they don't get paid either. All because some authoritarian Clowns in the GOP want to give money to their donors. A$$HOLES.
This actually sucks for government workers because we just have to make up for lost time. We still have deadlines. Paid vacation for worthless people
Only some government employees get back pay. Most get forced to stop working precisely because they will not be compensated for their time. There are "essential personnel" that this doesn't apply to; they work with no pay and are then compensated later. The military also continues operating at 100% without pay, so they get back pay after funding appears as well.

We destroyed a huge chunk of Russia's army with just 4-6 percent of the military budget. And without having to lose a single American soldier. I would rather that be the case than Russia becoming strengthened and invading Alaska and killing our troops.
