Dang, Im here in 2024 lookin for mutes to help my son with home practice/Jazz Ensemble... while at the same time Im on episode 8 of Band of Brothers for the first time and just lovin the theme so much. Thanks for the demo and good tunes.
Band of brothers is my school's Alma mater! We had a football game last night and we play it after every game. Well not me I'm in drumline and there isn't a piece for us, but the band does.
I'd be interested in knowing how to make an inexpensive trumpet mute using the same principle as the Mute-Tube, which I cannot afford. I think it's basically a cylinder with sound-proofing material inside of it. It looks very simple, the player just inserts the bell of the trumpet into it a bit and there's absolutely no change in blowing resistance.
Awesome video. I ordered the Denis Wick Wah Wah as my first mute and like the diversity and sound in a quiet environment. This is the best side to side comparison video of such a range of mutes, that i have seen. Now I wonder if there is a point for me to get the Combo mute or just a straight one as next one. Like the sound of straight mutes also. Subscribing to see what the next vid will be about! And if you speak about that or playability comparison of straight vs combo as straight.
funny thing that's barely related to the video, in Italian "mutes" are called "sordine" and I laugh way too hard at myself for my occasional brain farts when I call them "sardines"
Thanks for subscribing to my channel. You must have seen my Facebook post of your video with the plastic brass instrument. (I forget the name of it now. ) Perhaps on the next mute video you could add a solo-tone or a Pixie. But you can easily invest a fortune in mutes that very few people will get to hear.
If your still looking for one, and you use Amazon, I have a really good practice mute that I got a couple years ago by protec, and I would Recommend one from them
Just to tell you but all the "Straight" mutes you were using where not Straight mutes they are just mutes a Straight mute has a smother sound and is longer.
not technically true, there are a large variety of types with some producing more buzzy sounds (Dennis wick) and others with that smother and more muted sound (Humes and Berg stone-lined)
He's probably the only person who bought an official "plunger" mute instead of just using a toilet plunger
Dovahkiin217 I mean no one uses a toilet plunger. They're sink plungers
Johnathan Doe the ones my school has are toilet plungers
It doesn't really matter they function the same
Not only did I use one back in the day, but I gave one to my granddaughter albeit with a stubby purple handle.
In a concert I saw someone use a sock for a trumpet mute… it sounded a bit cheesy
Something about the way you made the singular "wah" sounds with the wah wah mutes is just so funny. Keep it up, love your videos.
You forgot the most cheap mute, your hand
horns only boi
xoknight french horn mute
xoknight most expensive
But then you won’t have a hand.
Instructions unclear
Sold my most expensive mute to buy two cheaper ones
Now can't use my triggers
Help

@@stefanwrabetz5650 XD
Have been dying to see a demo video like this, couldn't find anything other than straight, cup, and harmon demos on YT!
Yes keep using that intro. I still want to know the name of the piece
It's a barbershop tag called Cry.
Thank you, you are an angel. Although as a youtuber you already are.
It’s the opening credit music for Band of Brothers as well
Trent: as a composer, I really appreciate this! I would like to hear the LOW notes with the trumpet mutes, as well, if you can? Thanks! ♥
I set my phone down and forgot I was listening to this
Very good background music xD
Minimal talking. Just playing. Perfect video. 10/10
Also beautiful playing! Thank you so much!
Excellent, Trent! Moved me right along!😎
Pro tip: you can use Dennis Wick combo mute as practice mute :)
I love you for playing band of brothers theme. Thanks!

Wow. Band of Brothers. Nice pull
LMAO I DIED WHEN HE DID THE EYEBROW THING AT 2:10
Macy Dage 2:13 I think is when he does it
I do the same thing with my harmon mute when I pull the stem out.
Very helpful thanks! Would love to see this for other brass as well, esp trombones and tuba
Love the Band of Brothers theme.

Hadnt heard of that Sshh mute before. Seemed really quiet - even more tha other practice mute.
Can you do this but with tuba mutes or just straight up convince my ensemble director to purchase one?
Tuba mutes suck... Or maybe I'm just annoyed I have to lug one to a gig I'm doing in a few hours to play two notes...
Can't you use a traffic cone for that?
Band of brothers?
yes
Yep, now I'm off to re watch that whole series.
Immediately heard it and rushed for the comments
Same here Alex haha
Thanks for the vid!
Was that leadpipe just FILLED with water or???
I liked the Denis Wick combo mute (as cup mute) one

I sometimes think of the Harmon mute as the Miles Davis mute.
Excelent, just a fez words, and examples, good, very good.
LOL don't forget to move your brows when you pull the thingies out of the mute-it's a part of it)
When we need to buy Harmon mutes in high school our teacher said to take out the stem and through it away. Also some dents in it would look good
That teacher wasn’t a brass player was he?
And that’s a pretty sure tip-off that teach never had listened to, played, or (hopefully not the case) ever heard of Duke Ellington.
Berkeley school of Music Trumpet
Were those Dennis Wick mutes sold under the "Bach" name, decades ago?
Very useful. Thank you.
Great video! Thanx a lot!
I want to know which one is used in turkey in the straw
funny thing that's barely related to the video, in Italian "mutes" are called "sordine" and I laugh way too hard at myself for my occasional brain farts when I call them "sardines"
When you play the practice mutes, is it harder to play like in pushing the air?
blanchae some mutes might have more resistance than others, depends on the brand

Oh! And of course a bucket.
And a hat
How does it sound on a bugle
What is the use of the practice mute? I've never heard of it before
Not to bother the family or neighbors~!
Its name is its description...
Love this accent. Is that general NZ talk or a certain region?
I have the Denis Wick straight mute
Shame you didn't do a take on the Harmons without the stem. You did it with it in and halfway out.
I need a mute that will suppress the volume of the instrument for practice indoors in small rooms. any suggestions?
probably a practice mute
If your still looking for one, and you use Amazon, I have a really good practice mute that I got a couple years ago by protec, and I would
Recommend one from them
Have you used a marching euphonium before
joseph Keith those things kill your arms the first time you play.
What song is this? There sheet music?
hello. trant hemilton
What was the name of the piece you played those mutes on?
It's called "Requiem for a Soldier" - if you check out my other recent videos you'll see a multi-track recording I did of it.
No velvetone mute?
What's the intro audio?
What about buckets
Please review the nuvo jsax please
What about a bucket mute?
Gonna jump on this train a bit late...I'm slightly disappointed you didn't use a toilet plunger
So nice.smart trumpet players. Like.**
Can you do trombone mutes??
Unfortunately I don't have nearly as many trombone mutes, and if I were to find some cheap they'd take up far too much space.
Lucky they were not made of wood.Nearly woodwind but not quite?
Some of them have cork inside. Cork is a type of wood.
Indeed, but I think he just sneaks in, unless one of the next ones are wooden or have a cardboard or paper Mache end on them, wha, wha, wah wah.
Wilson's son will have one of these voices(don't starve)
I just realized this it the band of brothers theme
*casually places mutes on fingers*
The best part was requiem for a soldier
TROMBONE MUTES!!
1:56 I WANT ONE
Noahstar 0910 I honestly prefer the Dennis Wick
Just to tell you but all the "Straight" mutes you were using where not Straight mutes they are just mutes a Straight mute has a smother sound and is longer.
not technically true, there are a large variety of types with some producing more buzzy sounds (Dennis wick) and others with that smother and more muted sound (Humes and Berg stone-lined)
those longer ones you speak of are those stone-lined ones. Also the sound and look will vary from maker to maker
I feel like he vibratos on every instrument he plays
There's no difference between instuments right?
what are you talking about?
It is the same instrument; just different mutes.
RobinHood East there is
Same trumpet, different mutes.
Is anyone else's school too poor to afford real plunger mutes so they use real toilet plungers
Nahtanoj Enotsylb you mean sink plungers? Besides, they make for a more authentic jazz sound
what do you mean "real" plunger mutes XD
Nahtanoj Enotsylb Professional Jazz musicians use actual plungers. Buying a plunger mute is a waste
