From what I can see that's fairly accurate, it just doesn't look like it because the samurai armor you see in museums and movies is covered in colorful cloth.
I think it would largely depend on the era. Most samurai armor was made from a variety of materials, with some steel plate as well. The samurai is actually wearing what is 16th century (1500s) samurai armor which is normally 30lbs - 35lbs (14kg - 16kg) and doesn't normally cover as much of the body as full plate. Canonically, knights didn't fanny around fighting with their swords either, unless they had no better weapon to hand. Swords were sidearms, except when they were Zweihanders or Claymores, and were long enough to essentially fill the role a polearm would have, but with the added ability to slash (much like the odachi).
@@sdfrasvxc2913 Nope. Look it up. It's a bit of an historical misconception largely perpetuated by film and television. who often applied the "Rule of Cool," and who referred frequently to suits of Armour, which were display pieces which ALSO adhered to the "Rule of Cool" rather than any sort of historical accuracy, and as such were often displayed holding a Greatsword or some other cool-but-ahistorical weapon. Greatswords were predominantly used by foot soldiers, not Knights, as knights were becoming increasingly irrelevant on the battlefield at around the same time the Greatsword were becoming popular. Greatswords were intended to be used for breaking through lines of pikemen, not against armour, whereas knights tended to favour the arming sword or the long sword, as theses gave them more options regarding what OTHER weapons, they could carry, such as shields and pole-arms which were MUCH more useful against other armoured units, which were primarily what armoured knights were pitted against.
Linguistically "katana" just means "sword" in Japanese, and just like Europe had long swords, short swords, claymores, rapiers, sabers, estocs etc. Samurai had tachi, wakizashi, uchigatana, tanto, nagamaki etc. Technically they are ALL katanas because they are different types of sword. . . Unless of course you happen to be referring to the documented popularity of Yumi asymmetric longbows and the naginata polearm amongst many Samurai.

The Samurai would had a Tetsubo or a Onaginata (Naginata with large blades) for damaging armor by blunt impact. It would be decided by grappling and stabbing through the face.

In the heat of suppressive fire, crews wouldn't change barrels (cuz you know). The barrels get red-hot. The sword hits the barrel and easily bends the barrel and chops a nice dent into it, rendering it useless.
You could replicate the damage they did with just about any metal tool, or even a big stick. It doesn't take much force to move hot steel and render a tight-tolerance mechanism inoperable.

@@shrigmafit2730 longsword can do everything a katana/no dachi can and you see that in the first exchange. The whole "the katana is better at slashing" has been repeatedly debunked as the curve of the blade does almost nothing in that regard a normal longsword doesn't.

Ouve uma batalha entre samurais e cavaleiros antes, e os samurais perderam de uma diferença enorme, sendo ainda que os cavaleiros estavam em desvantagem...
I would love to see every other warrior vs. Spartans
I mean not really. In an actual fight the knight would kick the shit out of the samurai. Don't get me wrong the samurai were badasses and I'm sure if it came down to pure skill it would be pretty even but the difference in technology is what decides it.

The information I have is that there were battles between Portuguese and Japanese in the age of discovery and none were superior
Imagine elite level warfare just sounding like someone opened the silverware drawer too fast.
Now it just sounds like bubble wrap
the kitchen drawer noise mostly comes from the samurai's armor Wich it's not supposed to be made of metal
No words can describe how much I appreciate these fully ironclad armors.
Can't help but imagine what it could've been like meeting a soldier from across the water.
Like image it, your finished with a massive brawl, and then out of nowhere, through the smoke, a figure walks out wearing a completely unknown suit of armour and wielding a sword clearly not of the your land.
And then the mf stances up, ready to go 1 on 1.
Like, how weirdly awesome, but also kinda scary would that have been!
That must have occured many times.
ngl someone should make that into videogame concept trailer
them part where the unknown suit of armor comes into view, make it so that the warrior comes out from a huge dust/sand smoke/storm that just rolls off of their shoulders as they walk out
tilts head to one side and stances up, then knight/samurai/other medieval warrior raises one eyebrow in slight shock and curiousity before squaring up*clink of armor as he turns*
both stanced up then music plays with sick beats as the last few seconds of the scene play out, slashing of blades, dodging slashes making whooshing sounds, beat drops as last scene has them clash swords and everything but the swords go black as the sparks fly out of the clashing blades and fade
my gog the way you described it via comment made my brain go buckwild with cinematography, good comment mate good comment!

Unlikely, but possible.
Had this been historical, that knight would also have a pole-arm, a big shield and a dagger, and the samurai would have started by shooting arrows at the knight. Both would start from horseback.
The samurai would not have that plate armor
The knight would either have a longsword shield and dagger or a polearm and shortsword with a dagger
The Samurai would had a Tetsubo or a Onaginata (Naginata with large blades) for damaging armor by blunt impact. It would be decided by grappling and stabbing through the face.
@cideltacommand7169 The second part is wrong. Longswords were also used as sidearms. So the knight could have something like polearm, shield, and sheathed longsword. People never used swords as a primary weapon. (Excluding greatswords)
@@Ball_shlopper Did you read *also* ? I meant that on top of a sword, historical warriors often had bigger weapons with more stopping power and reach
