This car is the reason there is a Barra currently chilling in my garage in Kentucky. Also, partially responsible for me going to Summernats this year and accidentally winning my category of the mullet competition. Heading back your way in a couple of days for the 2024 Mullet Fest finals!
Old mate here, that met you at Bandimere when you did Race Week. They finally bought some land east of Denver, and might be able to soft open in 26. Hopefully Race Week will actually have the Rockies again. PS: still rocking the Cresta t-shirt, it's a good conversation starter.
Pretty sure the Cresta build was the gateway drug into MCM and into working on cars. I also had a Cressida back in the day so the Cresta has some nostalgia for me.
The mudflaps are very stock, but also funny when they're half as wide as the tyres. I wonder if painting the headlight ducts black would make them blend in better, not fan of the mesh
Been watching this car evolve since day 1. It has been a great trip. And the car is reaching its plateau of what it can do. It is almost a top line bracket runner now. Which is not a bad thing. For it to be dialed into 7's and run one every pass is no easy feat. Between weather and track condition every changing. It makes it a challenge to hit the numbers you always want to see. Wish you the best with this project, and can't wait to see more wins come along your way.
Love a Cresta episode and great update on the car and your plans for it. 1000/10 if you can get aircon back into it, that would be amazing, if nothing else but for the quality of life when you're doing your Drag and Drive events (both for yourself and passengers). Totally down with you tidying up the car and just making it a bit nicer now. I can't make any constructive suggestions for someone to do the dash but I really hope that you find someone who is able to take on the job and do it to your quality level. Love the work that you do Benny (and Gian). Keep up the great work guys!
The evolution of the Cresta has been awesome. Being a part of the Dragweek 2019 pilgrimage was awesome & being able to help fix the "Purple Monkey Dishwasher" issues was great. Long live the Cresta & I envision it delving deeper into the 7's & continuing its evolution & testing duties.
All I know is someone needs to make a 60 degree Barra V12. Even if they de-stroke it a bit so it revs heaps harder (maybe a 7 litre instead of 8 litres) can you imagine an engine like that in a drag and drive car? Easy 2000 horsepower but still smooth and well-behaved on the street, just need a good 6 speed manual gearbox behind it that could handle the workload.
You mention ac. What about a electric ac compressor and not a belt driven? Put it where its room and best weight balance. Maybe it would be possible to run it by the Haltech?
In an ideal world I’d love too see you over in Sweden for there version of drag week. They look like mad fun in the US I could imagine a whole tour with the Swedes 😅
It owes you nothing, and it is like a forever building, now it is just a tidy-up and being able to do that time but easier. That interior really shocked a lot of people, most thought it was stiped and that it still had quite an amount of factory parts.
I've always loved that you brought Ford motor we never got here; with the sickness. Also ofc the wealth of knowledge you and mcm and Yoda and shcøtty and memory fails, subarunian? Liquid wrench? ;) given and easily received .
Oh man commenting throughout this hour long gloriousness.. Physics modeled flow model of the "mud" flaps for maximum ease of cleaning. Thinking titanium heat transfer just melt the rubber off, Also they cheap nm
Can't help myself yes I can I am not. Full underbody aero, diffuser . Just some 3d printed carbon fiber. Easy p z .. gotta be at least three tenths down the track without changing the Volvo looking brick
could you save engine bay space, by putting electric power steering pump and electric air-con pump in the boot? plus a fire suppression nozzle in the boot?
Nek minnut, 6 seconds or burn it! I really think you could cut the bad area of dash out and glue high density foam in its place, body work it and then flock the whole thing. Flock yeah!
Aircon get the air con from an electric car then the whole compressor is electric you could also make it removable Or use a caravan (small) 12v system that’s removable or package it Cheers
For the dash reskin check out saiko custom works, he is in the Gold Coast, I drove all the way from Victoria to the Gold Coast just to have him reskin my uzs186 dash, the bloke does amazing work
Benny look into EV vehicles with electric AC, would be a super efficient AC and are relatively small but do pull some amps at full speed. I have seen some guys run ebay EAC on their classic vehicles and they are extremely happy with them as they run it on low to keep from getting too cold, their condenser has its own fan and mounted under the passenger side floor for short hoses to the evap
@ yeah I figured that was the idea just wasn’t sure how much extra volume would be needed for the flow. Would be interesting to see how much of a restriction it actually is. Or develops
Re: the dash - surely Mark from Barrel Bros could make you a new dash out of a much higher quality plastic that won't warp in the sun? All you'd need would be the injection molds, and a dashboard-sized mold would only cost what, $2 million? $3 million? Cheap as!
I'd love to know who originally owned the car in Japan, and I wonder what their reaction would be that their old grocery-getter is now internet famous and running 7's.
@@scottr9900 Mullet is a dedicated drag car. It has staggered front wheels (one is further forward than the other), and can’t be driven on the road. It has a race motor that barely has cooling. That motor is twisting and shaking the chassis apart and warping body panels. You could make the Cresta a 6s car if you throw 6 figures at it and don’t care how long it lasts.

Thanks for the update
the cresta is one of my favorite internet cars, it influenced my taste in cars, i love 80s bricks breaking the sound barrier xD
I am bulk buying BCW merch to help fund another trip to Drag Week
How about Dashboard Doctor?
You should make a shirt that says ‘definitely not going to be a 6 sec crester! ‘ haha.

Kick ass adventure Benny, thanks for bringing us along.
Amazing story and loved every minute of it, thanks Benny.
Good luck in 2025!

Love all the Cresta vids. This episode is the icing on the cake. Well done Benny and Gianne. 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the awesome years of content. I've been here since the beginning !
Love a good chat.
Cant wait to see what happens next year. Getting me excited about my own build.
With the car being longer on one side, at least the other side is shorter to compensate...

Coolest Cresta on the planet!
Love it! Can’t wait to see more updates on the Cresta!
You could always make a fiberglass body mold of the Cresta and create a funny car type body of the Cresta put it on a pro stock chassis.

The biggest packaging issue for AC For us is the condenser tbh

Cresta vs Blasphemi!
IIRC Blasphemi can only run >8s in the US because of it's cage, so really Finn needs to plan a trip to Oz ;)
Is there much benefit from running a screamer as opposed to running it plumbed back into the system?
