- Naive and easily impressionable Vidya Bhalla would like her husband to be a dashing hero, one who is not afraid of anybody, one who can easily jump into a fire to rescue someone, one who is strong & romantic. She sees all of these qualities in Shiva Sathe, the son of Havaldar Purshotam Sathe, whose only dream is to see Shiva become a Police Inspector. Vidya informs her dad, Prithviraj, that she has found her dream man, the Bhallas and the Sathes meet and get the couple formally engaged. Then Purshotam arrests the son of a M.L.A., and as a result he is transferred to the notorious Kala Chowki Police Station in Bombay. Upon arrival he finds out that the Inspector in charge of the Police Station, Saini, has been severely beaten-up by Billa Jilani and is hospitalized. Purshotam arranges for his entire family to re-locate. Shortly thereafter Shiva's brother-in-law approached Prithviraj Bhalla and informs him that Shiva has become an underworld Don, he has severely beaten-up the existing don, Billa Jilani, and is busy taking haftas and bribes from everyone. Prithviraj decides to investigate, and he does find that Shiva has become a ruffian, known to the police, arrested a number of times, much to the chagrin of his dad. Prithviraj breaks off the alliance and accordingly informs Purshotam. Shortly thereafter another fight breaks out, this time Shiva is arrested, held in a cell for several days, then beaten up by his father and subsequently bailed out by a woman named Shanti. Eventually Shiva kills Billa.The film ends with Purshotam declaring to Inspector Saini, that Shiva is not recommended to be an inspector, since in the eyes of the law he is a criminal. Shiva's photo is shown to be put up on the criminal's display board, and credits roll.

Then it was remade in Hindi by Priyadarshan as Gardish by adding some comedy scenes.... Salute to Lohita das...for such a wonderful story. He passed away in 2009..

Some people NOW really want to postpone it's release date to 1995 🤣🤣. Someone replied to my comment stating that it was the remake of GARDISH and it was released in 1995, 2 years after the release of Gardhish. I'm dead 🤣🙏🙏

@@mohitonutube with due respect to Jackie Shroff , he did a good job with his performance but can't even compare with Mohanlal's. You should understand both languages and then only you could feel the contrast in their performances. With subtitles one wouldn't be able to understand and feel the emotions of the characters from the dialogues. But still Jackie did a fine job. I watched the movie back in 1999.
Kireedam was very natural ...you could feel the emotions and mohanlal's outburst in the end...Gardish was a level below Kireedam...but both great movies...and 4 great performances - Thilekan , Mohanlal, Amrish Puri , Jackie Shroff...
Mohanlal did exceptionally well but jaggu dada set a different benchmark there is no comparison between both of them they both are fit in there shoes respect for both actors

Well done in Hindi too, though it has incorporated many changes inorder to make it suitable for Hindi audience. Jacki Shroff performed well and did justice to the character. All are requested to watch its parent movie 'Kireedam' in Malayalam acted by Mohanlal. I wish, all 'Gardish' fans must watch 'Kireedam'...you will not be disappointed..it is a classic one in all aspects.
@Aditya D @Aditya D Hi friend, Kireedayam, the malayalam parent movie, is a very simple move with minimum dialogues...as you know the story, language would not be a big issue..you can read out everything from their acting and emotions..give a try...you can watch it on youtube..type Kireedam malayalam movie..it will come. I am not sure about whether it is available with subtitles on some other ott platform..

" गर्दीश" जब रिलीज हुई तब मै साधारण १५- १६ साल का था | पापा तो सिनेमाघर नही ले जा सके हमे,क्यूँकी मुंबई मे सिनेमाघरो मे जाणा उस उक्त ठीक नाही था, ( १९९२-९३ बंब स्फ़ोट की वजहसे थोडा माहोल दहशत मे था) लेकिन मैने यह मुव्ही VCR मे देखी थी, ओ भी सिनेमा की कॅसेट भाडे पे लाकर | उस दौर मे अगर कोई बोलता एकदिन आप जब चाहो यह मुव्ही या कोई भी मुव्ही घर मे या आपने हातो मे बैठे बैठे देख सकते हो तो याकीन नही होता. खैर आज पुन्हा यह सिनेमा देख के पुराणी यादे ताजी हो गयी |
