Hey there's some pretty legit reasons for bikes to be the "designated" mode of transport: less fuel consumption, more easily repairable, can easily squeeze through obstacles such as abandoned cars Great video btw, commentary's very enjoyable
Thank you! and I agree, and i'm kinda bummed I didn't say "I understand the fuel and squeeze side of the argument" I just think it's funny how EVERYONE is now a Harley Davidson BIKER, not even 1 sport bike or some electric alternative, and not 1 car (except boozer in his GIANT ASS TRUCK that he somehow seems to get around fine in).
Yeah they could've used an actual dirt bike, they have smaller engines so they're more efficient, more agile for maneuvering, and they also don't sound as loud as a hugeass V engine in a chopper. Infact, aren't choppers known to be absolutely inefficient for fuel consumption compared to pretty much other motorcycles?
Hordes really are the selling point of this game, even the music when you get near them puts you on edge. The plan for tackling them smoothly always seems to go to shit too, and you end up in this chaotic chase through the terrain or buildings. Definitely a type of concept that needs to be introduced to other games.
L4D and even World War Z do the hordes better. Days Gone is the pinnacle "eh" game. It does nothing good but it does nothing bad either, and there's nothing that makes it stand out
@@Echoplex25 world war Z and l4d hordes are simply way easier just because of coop though even with bots. This game definitely does a realistic job moving hordes of difference sizes across the map
In the beginning mission, Deacon and boozer make their way through a tunnel that is heavily congested with trucks and cars. I believe that deacon comments on this and says that everyone riding around in their big cars were dumbasses just waiting to die in the cramped tunnels and highways. The reason they ride around on choppers is because of fuels, better maintenance, as well as maneuvering through cramped areas
choppers are none of those things though. dirt bikes or supermotos. of course if Deacon was into those kinds of bikes, they'd have to completely rewrite the character
they were from a motorcycle club. they still wore their jackets even after the apocalypse started. dudes, motorcycle club members are like cultists. their lives revolve around bikes. its that obvious why they drive bikes
The choppers are a mix of utility and style. Off course customs or choppers are the worse bikes for a apocalipse, but bikes in general are the correct vehicle for such situation.
Seems like a no brainer and a rational assumption to think using a motorcycle in a post apocalyptic ruin would be Normal XD but he is using a huge Chopper which just eats gas. But then deacon is from a motorcycle gang so it’s okay? Idk man seems like lazy writing
This game was what kept me busy and stopped me from crying constantly after my dad died. He passed 4/20/19 and this game came out 6 days later and my mom offered to buy it for me since I’d been excited for it for a while. This game will always mean a lot to me, thanks SIE Bend for making a kickass game and thanks Mom for buying it for me ❤️
If you finish all of the NERO missions they do actually show that the zombies were evolving into a sentient/intelligent being. There's an entire cutscene dedicated to it
@troypowers750 there not zombies omg stop calling them that people there like Vampires except they come out in day and night. Zombies don't, sleep, and shid either. If u put a Freaker in a room with a Zombie they will rip each other apart. Zombies don't drink water either moron
@@troypowers750O'Brian told us that NERO was all along working on the Virus to keep them sentient, next evolution of a new dominant species. Kinda leading to Planet of the apes type of scenario. And that NERO leaders want to finish off the humans afterwards.

I think it's a good game, even if it had some problems. Definitely deserved a sequel with some tightening-up. I also distinctly wanted to see where the plot was headed.
@@alip1207 when it came out there were a lot of bugs. I haven't played it ever since beating it the first time so I don't know if they fixed it already.
Sad to see Days Gone not get a sequel. I was hoping that the developers can do much better in the next game. I do think Days Gone had potential but from what I've experienced I can understand why it didn't happen. Glad people here have enjoyed the game though. I can always appreciate someone who enjoys a game more than I have.
I was seriously bummed out when I heard the sequel plans were cancelled 😔. I adored this game. One of my only Platinum Trophies on PSN. A monument to unique open world games and a tribute to Zombie games everywhere. Days Gone was Brilliant. I was really hoping for that part 2!
Deacon and Sarah not falling into each others’s arms in tears makes sense since the colonel is crazy and relationships are forbidden at the base. Also Sarah was probably in shock and denial after thinking that Deacon was dead all this time. Also the Nero missions weren’t that bad. It was interesting hearing their conversations
But would you actually care? Two years, they spent believing their partner was dead. Two fucking years, believing that at best, their partner had starved to death - and at worst their partner had been ripped apart by zombies. On top of that, Deacon and Sarah's is meant to be this grand love story of two lovers tragically split apart; their relationship is meant to be some sort of ideal or something and then they meet up again and just...it falls flat. I definitely shared Jack's opinion of the whole situation. I was furious that after everything I'd had to get through to get to this point Sarah basically just brushes Deacon off. Like, what?
I would literally prefer to watch paint dry rather than playing a single nero mission, secondly gotta agree with the dude above, I don't think deacon and sarah would give a fck on what the colonel thinks after 2 years of thinking that they are dead. Its just a poorly written game with poorly written characters, gameplay is kinda cool especially the hordes, but those alone are not capable to make the game stand on its own feet.
@@jesusblanco7657 That's the point bro. BETWEEN officiers. Deacon wasn't an officier, but Weaver was. That's why it was okay for weaver to try, but when Deacon kissed her, captain Kouri said he had to keep it professional.
What the game did well they did incredibly well. The combat, riding and customising your bike etc was amazing. It deserved a sequel but sadly the studio is working on a different Ip.
The bike customisation felt real bland in the late game in terms of components besides the gas tank I think, but there was a decent amount of paints and little decals. The only viable weapons for hordes were automatics since they had the most ammo, almost 10x that of semi auto weapons that could've been fun to use. If they improved on those two in a sequel then I would be happy but sadly we aren't getting it. I personally would've loved an rdo style game where you and your friends could operate as a post apocalypse biker gang.
The motorcycle thing, my headcanon is based on the fact that motorcycles can be super gas efficient so with what little gas is around you can get farther and use them far more than you would be able to a car for off roading. The average Honda Shadow reports getting 30 to 40 MPG(sometimes more) whereas the average truck will get like 1/4th of that. There is also less to maintain and the engines are simpler overall to work on as they are small engines with less complicated mechanics. The average car on the other hand you have 2 more tires to maintain, far more parts to source, a lower gas mileage on average(depending on the car), and several other factors.
@@en3525 Still doesn't really make sense to travel using a louder than a tractor motorbike either, if the zombies are sensitive to sound then there would be a LOT of hordes gathering in the places around bases just like some comics like The Walking Dead showed. a motorbike might not sound loud but thats beucase there's a lot of noise on cities, if you went to a forest and used one you could hear that thing from literally miles away so they cant just let us use a loud bike that attracts zombies and then say we cant use a car for "reasons" and not expect players to take it into consideration when reviewing it, a game is like project either its well planned out or people are gonna see all these wholes which makes it seem worse even if it could have been great because the ones who made it are lazy. Also there are post apocaliptic games out there where you can use cars, if you forgot there are offroad cars out there too so the excuse "roads are destroyed or blocked" isnt a good one either.
@@xvinis Bro what about the upkeep on a car? besides motorbike there's only bicycles left, there are infected dogs that can outrun a fully upgraded bike Its not that the roads are just destoryed or blocked, the safest way to travel far away from the nests if on the dirt tracks laid out in the map. While a loud bike motor can alert a horde it can run faster than any of the zeeks, besides the runners, but those dont travel with hordes The reason hordes don't attack most of the bases in the game its because its almost impossible and its out of the way of the pheromone laid path they use to go back to hibernating, they go out of the caves for drinking and scavenging food All camps are guarded first by the geography of the land, Copeland's is surrounded by a cliff to the left, a lake to the right, although its one of the weakest camps in term of security Hhot springs is completely surrounded by a lake with fast moving currents, only access if by a bridge they can easily destroy which also bottlenecks all incoming zeeks Lost lake is surrounded by water and a marsh that zombies get stuck in Diamond lake and wizard island are impregnable
@@en3525 Yes but i responded to your comment about the roads, ofc the upkeep of the car is gonna be a problema but thats the complaint the second dude who replied stated, that they could have "explained" it in the game, even by just making a minor character say something about it which could add to the immersion, otherwise there could be people out there using cars, we could even go as far as to say that the only people using cars are the ones with a person who used to be a mechanic to fix them. But i do get your point and if we just keep respoding we would just get into a loop, in the end i'm just gonna state that if they made a game where zombies are sensitive to sound they should have used a bike/car that didnt make much noise and it was something they either didnt care/overlooked and hurts the game when someone reviews it.
I started tackling hordes way early in the game. As soon as I could get distractors, I started working my way through the smaller hordes. You get some awesome weapon unlocks that make Deacon even more of a badass. I honestly enjoyed the simplicity of the story though. Two bros just trying to ride north, knocking out odd jobs until they can get there. Sometimes there doesn't have to be an elaborate reason behind why they want to get away. At times we all want to get away just to experience something different. I think their one thing they focused on was simply the biker culture, so it's not really surprising that they went with a nomadic motive. Which lends even more weight to the fact that Boozer chooses to settle down.
Ah, someone who gets it. The end goal really is getting away, there's nothing bombastic about it, and there doesn't have to be. The setting and general vibe of the game hints at that being the core focus: you're in tourist-trap camping territory, an already slower version of life has slowed down even further with civilization having all but evaporated. It's also a neo-western (imo), so there's themes of loyalty, there's horseback (bike being a stand in), nomadic lifestyle, there's shootouts. There's some similarity to TLOU but one has to remember, this is an open world so there's an expectation one will spend more time in it, become acquainted, just enjoy the scenery, etc. The story isn't really within the cutscenes and general narrative, it's stopping to listen to NPCs talk about their experiences that give the world life. In a sense it's more like ER -- the individual pieces are scattered about and only in living in this world awhile can you start to put everything together.
Days gone has a lot of problems but I really enjoyed it. I was hoping there would be a second one because I think the studio could have learned from some of their mistakes
I remember when the devs debated rather or not to add a ladder sliding mechanic to the game because they thought it was to unrealistic but were completely fine with the player having the ability to essentially slow time
It's not slowing down the time but subjective feel when you aim or have to do something. Imagine picking a weapon from few weapons you have available: in real life you can just grab it right away but if your movements are limited to pad button there would be plenty of clicking to do that so slowing down time actually increases realism. Having that said game have other unrealistic problems like a magical weapon closet, fully tanked biked running out of fuel after two kilometers or low IQ of human enemies. But its a really good game because what they do right they did so good that you can give them a pass on their weak points.
i finally decided to play the game... and it rlly got me hooked up.. to the point i finished it in 2 days with small breaks.... i think its hella underrated. And honestly- the story felt quite short to me lol- overall i would give it 9/10 (my personal opinion based on how i enjoyed the story and gameplay)
the motorcycles actually were explained in a story mission where its said the highways and roads were blocked by too many cars to be able to drive a car
And from a mechanical perspective there is less that can go wrong in a bike, they are WAY more fuel efficient and it's easier to swap parts around. Bikes just make more sense, the ammount of cars that can go offroad that you would find would be pretty damn slim

I was really disappointed that Addy didn't get more screen time. She was honestly one of my favourite characters, as a veterinarian who was forced into the role of a doctor due to the apocalypse. I just wish we got more of this, and more of her struggle to cope with it all. Also really liked the music. Reaaaally hated the long ass dialogue when you rescued survivors out on the road though. Why do we need to wait like 20 seconds to save these people and experience the same dialogue every time.
"Thank you so much for saving me. I would've been a goner if you hadn't come and saved me. Thank you Thank you. I was so scared." "Look there's a camp you can go to. You'll be safe there" "A camp?!?! Where??? Where where is it?! Wherever it is I'll go!! Just tell me where! *deacon points in a direction "Okay I'll go! Thank you mister im on my way now. Thankyouthankyouthankyou "Just stay off the main road!" "Okay mister thank you I will. I can't believe someone stopped to help me. I'll go to the camp now"
You said that there is no hint to the zombies becoming a greater race than the humans. That's wrong! O'Brian literally demonstrates to Deacon that he already turned into an intelligent super-human and that Deacon might turn into one, because he injected himself with those sweet NERO-steroids.
Btw the reason everyone use motorcycles is because there more mobility to get around quicker and i think(not 100% on) it saves gas. And there would be no need for cars if they can't leave cause of the amount of "freaks" at main bridges
The bikes thing is easily explainable really. They can go on and off road, travel more easily through areas that are blocked off (like the tunnel at the beginning of the game that's got loads of abandoned cars in it) and you can also move it still when it runs out of fuel. Additionally you might be able to weave your way out through a crowd of zombies on a bike and it's a lot easier to u-turn in a bike to get away from them quicker than it may be with a car.
There's a lot of dry veteran "humor" in this game that a lot of people don't get. It feels like they pulled some dude on the team who served for 2 or 3 years (or had a family member who served) and asked them to write the veteran shit. "Rifle not a gun" is a Marine Corps thing, which is why Deacon (an Army vet), gives him sass about it, playing off of the intraservice rivalry stuff.
@@emadashraf3301 That's a bit of nit pic tbh. Not being incorporated into the story sort of makes sense as maybe they were trying to focus on allowing players to keep progressing rather than hit a wall and drop the game. This should be an optional thing anyway for side quests to consistently think about risk reward. The game actually is pretty good by just doing the free roaming. The story and the story missions just suck for the most part though.
@@desfefe That's just it though. The core gameplay is good. The biking is fun, the hordes are awesome, the scavenging and sense of survival is great. Why. Did. They. Not. Incorporate. That. Into. The. Fucking. STORY? Why are the missions all just; "Let's go here and grab this which is completely uneventful and ends kinda jarringly prematurely". Like, even the long missions such as the dynamite haul with Skizzo and the power plant clearing with Rikki suck. What do you actually do during them? You go there, clear two nests (you literally clear 6 every small town or even just trailer park you enter), then kill ten Rippers (again, you kill more than that in the roads and in camps), and it's done. Why is that one of the longest missions in the game, one during which we bond with and learn about these characters? Put them in the shit. Kick them down, give us a harsh moment to care about. And I'm not just talking story either, make it gameplay the way The Last of Us did. Remember those whole sections with Bill and Henry? I literally loved having extra survivors with me because it genuinely felt safer that way, even just one or two extra guys. That's because the terrifying shit didn't just happen in cutscenes. It happened in gameplay. The literal only time Days Gone reached such a height was with a side mission. At first I legit thought it was a coincidence due to how seamless it happens, but now I have played through this game three times and can confirm that the same thing happens each time. I think it's in the Militia section of the game. You go rescue this guy in a mine for a bounty (not the drug addict, just some random), and everything goes smoothly. You clear the mine of bandits, and release him. Everything proceeds as usual, you get your mission success and whatnot, yet right as you press them away, you hear that eerie escalating Horde music creep in. For me I immediately used my survivor senses, and about ten meters away tops there comes this entire fucking horde jumping down the mine shaft and running at you. No warning, nothing. And you're stuck in think dark and expansive mine with no clue where to go to get out. It was the one time my heart was fucking racing. Never felt so relieved to see daylight when I got out, something I managed purely because I got a long memory and recognised from which way I came which added another layer of realism to the whole section. I didn't even enter that mine again until my second playthrough. Didn't get the full horde slayer that run just because of how much that affected me. Imagine if the game set up more sections like those. You could easily choose how you wanted to deal with it, same as The Last of Us. In that hotel basement section, you can either set everything up, start the generator, then run right to the door with the card in hand already. You'll never even see the Bloater this way. A single Stalker is the worst you'll get bothered by. Yet they also give you the option to just gun them all down if you feel you're up to it. Same with this mine horde. If you're in NG+ with an MG55 and Chicago Chopper, they aren't that scary anymore. But you don't have to kill them. You can just run. We needed hordes incorporated more into the game like that. As it was, humans were always the threat. Why? Why not the hundreds of swarming sprinting mutated murder machines that wiped out nearly 8 billion people in two years? Why is every zombie section such a pushover? They don't allow you to use a gun when fighting in the mine with Skizzo, and it was still piss easy. Why don't we get a genuinely threatening horde barging in there after Skizzo fired his gun? Or maybe there's one hybernating in the power plant we explore with Rikki. Imagine what they could've done with that. So many missed opportunities.
You missed some things Rippers forced people into the group by giving them pcp or just killing them if they refused And Sarah and Decon were weird at first because they had to pretend to not know each other
@@bobbymcjoey9432 because she started like a whole new life They probably weren’t sure how they would react to them knowing each other Plus it allowed them to do their secret stuff without arousing suspicion
Playing this game on hard makes it a lot better. Whenever I had to pull over for gas or supplies it either went horrible or fine. I wish I never played this game on normal.
I played on hard first, and you can't fast travel, and leveling up bases to be able to buy new guns is one of the biggest grinds in game history, but that's basically the only negative thing about it, everything else on hard makes the game justice.
In my opinion, this game EASILY sits amongst the best Sony exclusives. The writing, while I think its fine...I get it. However, the "acting is bad"? Are you kidding me!? The acting is fantastic, regardless if the lines aren't. I'm seriously flabbergasted at how you can think the acting is bad.
@@caiusactinunwise1412 please don’t drag Sam Witwer’s performance. The guy is objectively very talented, he even brought us a really good Darth Maul portrayal in the Star Wars animated series.
I just couldn't tolerate the dialogue when you're riding around on your bike, deacon is always yelling or audibly exasperated while the other characters are talking at a normal volume. Deacon is either yelling or whispering there's 0 consistency. Also, when he reacts to Copeland's radio propaganda, nests or literally anything he always sounds so fucking dumb "oH ThAT's GreAt cOpE". Some great acting but also some terrible acting
just a point that i want to make is that you don't have to play 80% of the game to fight a horde, i fought 1 of them before even meeting Tuck, and another just after meeting her and i was like 2 hours in maximum and most of it was just exploring, and i understand that they made a huge mistake with the balancing of hordes, there should be smaller ones in the beggining area and they start to grow large as you progress but i don't know if they did it by stupidity or if they didn't believe that the players would manage to take down a horde with five molotovs a pistol and crossbow
Basically the only excellent thing of the game, ( the voice acting I’m talking about, it’s not really good written)they really did that well. But everything else is what we already seen and with a lot of flaws.
Although this is definitely a late comment to the vid, PLEASE go check out the cutscene post-story with the NERO guy, I am not gonna talk too much about it for fear of spoiling for others, but I liked that quite a bit and it added to the story of nero and the infection and all that.
Gonna be honest dropped the video in the first 2 minutes. “Why Does No One Use Cars?” Because Most of the highways are covered in Choke points, and Massive Pile-up and you use back roads to drive on for half the game. Also Rippers, Marauders, and Freakers are smart enough to lay down ambushes that would easily work on cars. Also you can quite Bikes in real life
Days Gone is a gem for me. I’ve been struggling with crippling gaming fatigue for years and Days Gone snapped me right out of it. Because of that, it holds a very special place in my gaming heart.
I personally love this game, I think bend studio for a game made by 50 devs it’s impressive. It’s not perfect and I know it, but not every game has to be a game 10/10 game changer. I don’t want the next half life or gta. I just want a game I can play that works and is fun in its own way. Now I know the problems in this game, human a.I is dumb as hell. And IMO pretty easy to fight in all scenarios, the characters are pretty dumb iron mike for example. But I find the actors managed to act them well to make the characters at least likable. The game isn’t perfect but I give it bend studio for what it is. It’s not bad and I hoped a sequel would address all my issues.

I actually really liked days gone, the gameplay was good enough i guess, but what sold it to me was the atmosphere, i loved going around on a bike in the rainy forests of oregon, and the protagonists voice actor did an awesome job
Deacon is so out there because he has basically lost his shit after losing his wife. You can see in the flashbacks he's always pretty normal, but there is a switch when you play him current-day. He's just always tilted because of the trauma.
Only thing that I have to disagree with at all, is hordes being near the end of the game. By like my 3rd hour they were on the map and you can attempt to wipe some of them out.
Yeah, you could bump into a horde early on. There is a small one in the cave right near one of the first infestation sites on the bridge, maybe 50 freakers. A few molotavs, a pistol and a .22 repeater aint gonna kill it. I danced around these until I got an assualt rifle with a decent sized clip.
I’m usually a bit surprised by the negative points made in a lot of videos for this game. For me, I was intrigued by how distinct of a character Deacon is. He’s a little unhinged and awkward, but also very competent, dedicated, and loyal. Felt more like the main character of a gritty film or TV show instead of a game, which I thought was a refreshing choice in a video game. Also, I encountered my first horde early on. Maybe it’s just how I play games in general, immersing myself in a slower pace of playing, exploring a lot, that type of thing. So, hordes were a huge part for me for the whole game, making the arc from being helplessly terrified to being eager to take them on was so great-though, admittedly, they’re always terrifying. The strange stiffness of the reunion with Sarah I thought made perfect sense in context. They’re under close watch of an insane, military cult leader who forbids relationships under his rule. Also, the restraint they have to show is compelling in how frustrating it is, robbing you of catharsis and dragging it out. Every so often, Sarah would say something personal and sweet, and it meant so much more because of the strange circumstances. Also, yes the game is long, but I was so in love with a number of the main characters that I was hooked all the way to the end. Yeah, there’s some pretty generic characters throughout, but I thought they were performed in a way that made up for the occasionally poor writing. The story had so much heart, there was a sense of compassion and humanity in the characters. I don’t know. I adored this game. I’ve put more hours into it than some of the “higher end” exclusives. Still love this video and your videos in general, though! Always so well made and entertaining.
Genuinely, if it weren't for Sam Witwer being involved in this game, I never would have cared about it. And even then, his direction is very...strange for him. Lotta potential wasted here in between the bursts of fun
Handguns and shotguns are differentiated from rifles mostly because of their range, purpose and accuracy. That line was just supposed to highlight that the character loves the 2nd amendment or something like that I guess.
The large use of bikes was explained. It’s due to the large number of cars blocking roads so the bikes made it miles easier for people to get around without being blocked
I loved playing Days Gone I found it really fun. The story didn't bother me as much as you but you were right in your Criticism. The one thing I hated and bugged the shit out of me is the cookie-cutter Npc's you save in the wild and camp NPC's. Same voices and the same model used over and over again. It took me out of the game every time.
That was pretty funny how you're saying the stereotypical nervous guy was over the top because "Deacon is so bad ass and scary." Then it cuts to a scene with Deacon backing him up to a tree with a gun to his head.
They actually say why people started using motorcycles instead of cars and it was because there were so many cars blocking the streets that it would be very hard to drive in a car
I want a game like Fallout New Vegas with graphics and characters like RDR 2, with a nice bike/motorcycle like Days Gone. That's my dream game right there.
It actually did explain in a dialogue that when the shit* started the roads were jammed nd cars weren't going anywhere. Motorcycles became the golden standard.
I just accepted that they're easier to maintain and maneuver. I wish there was a system where you had to use a dirt bike to access areas. It could have been a really cool plot point.
I'm actually super surprised by the amount of people who question using bikes. That wasn't even something I had to think about to make sense, let alone have some exposition in the game about it.🤔
I'll agree the game has some minor flaws to it, but it's still a good game. What Sony did wrong, is give the go ahead of a Days Gone movie instead of making a Days Gone 2.
It was a very different game from what other Zombie games do, and I honestly quite enjoyed it and it's personally a zombie game I've always wanted in terms of zombies not just being a "how many waves can you survive" and actually having a story line to it.
Motorcyclist here: yeah I don't get the choppers-in-zombie-apocalypse obsession either, dunno where's it's from and hope it doesn't last in games lol. Choppers are some of the worst gas-guzzlers in the motorcycle industry with sometimes intentionally outdated parts for the sake of tradition (looking at you, Harley Davidson). Dirt bikes with engines as small as 150cc are infinitely more valuable in any apocalypse situation. 3-5x more gas efficient than choppers these days, generally built to be actually silent, easy to repair, light, is actually suitable for all terrains. The only charm of choppers to most people is making the dugudugudugu sound
Not a bike or car guy but wouldn’t it be easier to work on a bike motor ? Like maybe that’s what they’re getting at cars have a lot more you need to up keep ? Maybe mobility but the noise part is dumb
@@19thratytt never mentioned a car anywhere in that whole paragraph but yes. There are many different motorcycles, however the best bikes for a post-apocalyptic world is the dirt bike/dual sport. Light, intentionally small engine for even more lightness and single cylinder torque, good for most terrains. Choppers in murican movies and zombie games are absolutely terrible because they usually have intentionally outdated engines, and everything is heavier than they should be for practical use. There are small-engine retromodern chopper-style bikes but they never get attention in any media because... Harley, I guess.
I'm probably the minority here but I find the Sarah and Deacon reaction believeable because they're in disbelief that they're alive and well. Also, Sarah is working for the leader of the militia group and knows how serious he is that she doesn't want to expose Deacon as his love interest because it's been established that the militia leader wants you to leave the past behind and so destroying his code would mean you're not fit for the group and can more likely be exterminated. So overall, I find myself emotionally conflicted but I understand why Sarah reacted that way. Also SPOILERS The game did hint a more I Am Legend route where the zombies have conscious and in the secret ending, the scientist guy is already infected and has gain a conscious and warned Deacon that the worst is yet to come setting up the sequel. Speaking of hordes, you can go and kill hordes in-between the storylines to build up some skill points and currency to build up your status with your camp. I do agree this game needs improvement and I hope that this game gets a sequel cause it deserves one.
Ok the line “it’s not a gun it’s a rifle” I actually really liked that line because if I’m not mistaken, the guy with the scar who says the line is a marine, and deacon is a soldier (army), now both branches from my knowledge emphasize that they’re rifles, etc. not guns so I kinda liked that bc my buddy is a marine and I’m currently enlisting into the army at the moment and I swear me and him have had that interaction numerous times .
I loved this game sooo much, the open world element with amazing graphics, weather changes, rain, mud, snow, wind, mountains, stars, I could go on and on.... incredible game, the missions and story sucked me in and hammering around on the motorbike made it fun AF to explore, I hope they make a sequel and if they dont I look forward to a remake in years to come.
There was just too much ludo narrative dissonance when playing as him, and it was hard to root for him because his morals were very inconsistent. "I'm a murderer, thief, liar, I send people unwittingly into a labor camp and I should be in prison. But I draw the line at killing unarmed women (while killing hundreds of women in the game) and I am Politically Correct, so that makes everything okay." Deacon hates everyone in the game who is exactly like him (Skizzo included) but wants to think of himself as the "Good Guy". I got the feeling Deacon would have betrayed every camp in the game if it meant saving Boozer or Sarah.
As a kid all of my uncles rode motorcycles as did my father. Deacon reminded me alot of my uncles. I loved this game and the story. I do wish we could change the exhaust to make it loud or very quiet like my bike. Days Gone really deserved a sequel.
Man I watched this video before I bought the game and I kept thinking about all your comments while I was playing, everything you said was spot on, Deacon is such a strange character, I like the actor that plays him a lot, but jesus christ that performance was so bizzare, the zombies are more normal than he is.
bro yall are so gullible. bandwagon hating. dont even have yall own minds. let others cloud yall judgement. How is deacon bizarre?? He is a BIKER from oregon an fits that role VERY well. So how is he strange? this should be interesting
I really hope they do make a second game because there's so much potential with what's already there. If they get some better writers, improved on the already great gameplay, that could easily be the next big apocalypse game that everyone will love for the next decade.
I just finished the game (after 70 hours holy shit XD) and you articulated all my problems with it. The potential was there to be great but instead it was just okay.
You missed the whole point of the Nero scientists missions. It didn't end up with you fighting a big hairy guy. It ended I am legend style where you find out that the scientist thats been helping you is really a zombie human hybrid.
If I could change a few things about Days Gone it would be these; 1. Bring back firearm upgrades and accessories. Modders discovered that there were folders containing files with labels indicating that a weapon upgrade and accesory system was originally planned to be part of the game. 2. Melee weapon degradation should not be the same for every available one. 2x4s, stool legs, wooden baseball bats breaking after a couple of strikes is understandable, but Machetes, Axes, and other types made of steel? I doubt it. Bladed weapons going blunt is one thing, but actually breaking is a bit silly imo. 3. The Trust system should have been revamped, if I am a weapon's merchant and I see some dude quite capable of exterminating zombies, I would make all of my goods available for purchase. The system would have been useful if the player actually has the option of betraying a camp. Gaining enough trust should give the player a discount on items that are regularly bought. 4. Unlockable weapons should be given a little bit earlier and not part of the achievement they were supposed to be used for. The Tavor or IDF Pup as it was called in game is unlocked after reaching 50% of the Horde storyline. What's the point of having it if the player can just acquire the Chicago Chopper and/or RPD anyway. 5. For a game that encourages stealth gameplay, I wonder why there are no Bows or Slingshots available. I am not an expert when it comes to archery but I know there are different types of these weapons with their strengths and weaknesses. It would have been nice to start the game with a makeshift straight bow which you can upgrade or replace later with a recurve or a compound. Same thing with the crossbow. 6. I also wondered why there aren't actual sound suppressors? I doubt Oregon would run out of it after 2 years. 7. Non-infected human enemies should have been smarter. Excluding the Rippers which are actually crazy, the other groups should have been more strategic when fighting you. These are some of the things that I want to see in the sequel, if it ever happens.
I actually liked the story up until the point where you head further south to find the militia. When deacon found Sarah it was more like he found a chick he went on a blind date with once and it ended awkwardly when he came fast rather than finding his wife
They wasnt alone in this moment. Deacon didnt say anyone in milita that hes looking for his wife. I think becouse he didnt trust them. So when they finally met they both acted like nothing happend but u can see on their faces that they are in shock. Im just after this cutscane and cant believe that so many players dont get this. Man they meet almost on enemy territory. That was no time nor place to act like two lovebirds. Amen.
Yeah the writers didnt do that very well. My thoughts- as soon as the door closed behind them they should have been stripping their clothes off and BANGING!!!!

Every problem I had w/ this game was basically solved by mods...except for there being gasoline too readily available for my taste... well, and co-op...damn, I wish this game had co-op
I'm the actor who plays Weaver (and a few others) in the game, so I'll admit I'm biased. However, I'm also a gamer, and I never understood why people are so hard on this game. It's a perfectly fine escapist romp. I've played other zombie game WAY less entertaining than Days Gone. The comparisons to The Last of Us aren't really fair. Sure, they're in the same genre, but so are Die Hard and The Raid. They're just different. Comparing media is pointless. You do make a good point about the loudness of motorcycles, I never thought of that LOL. I do wish the hordes came earlier in the game.
Yeah this RUclipsr has some hot takes here. I agree on some accounts about the unskippable cutscenes and the plot and etc. but the game is super fuckin enjoyable lol.
6:50 you’re on the money on this one. I felt the same way when I was playing this game. To find your wife just to get such a disappointing reaction from her just made the game feel so fake. No one mentions this point or the fact that the characters and story are so bland. All I see everywhere are raving reviews about this game but no one talks about how stories and character development in games matter too.
There's a valid reason for her reaction. SPOILER Alert: 1. On the way to the Camp. Kouri States that No relationships are allowed on the Camp. 2. Sarah blames herself as she is one of the reason why the virus happened.
Deacon's every reaction, even if for no reason, is to scream in rage. I'm there, trying not to make any noise, and Deacon won't stop screaming, and it's so loud. Undoubtedly, the only thing that made me play are the hordes, it's a lot of fun to kill them, and the game has some interesting options to destroy them.
This video was obviously written by someone who's literally never been near a car with an open hood. "There's literally thousands of broken down cars around." Yeah, broken down cars.
I loved how I wanted to actually clear each horde and build my bike. I wanted to play the game until the end. Plus I love seeing Starkiller fighting Zombies
I honestly loved this game . And it makes sense to me that the whole story isn’t filled with hordes because they wanted you to kill all the hordes after the game , plus it might have gotten stale in the story .
Everybody drives a bike in the game because if an apocalypse ever does happen all the highways and stuff are gonna be clogged up with all the idiots trying to get out in their four wheel cars?? It’s kind of one of those things that you figure out on your own if you think about it?? In the end of days when everybody’s trying to get out of town you’re gonna need a bike- You’re gonna need a bike that’s capable of doing off-road as well as tough enough to not break down on you after a little abuse etc. etc. etc.
Personally i really liked the game. What i didnt like however is the fact that on survival difficulty the mini map is not visible. I mean even on your dam bike! So you constantly have to press v so you can see where you are going for only about 4 seconds
The quality of your channel is actually insane. when I saw the red dead video before it popped off I was genuinely pissed at RUclips for the fact that you had 2.8k. success of your vids and hopefully all future ones is well deserved
I don't really agree with you on every point. Ok maybe the lovestory cutscenes. Other than that I thought the game was great and I was dissapointed when it was all over. I give his game a solid 9 out of 10.
I tired so hard to get into this game but I really couldn't. Hearing you express your opinions on it also made me realize some of the main reasons why I couldn't get into it like that.
I enjoyed the game quite a lot actually. It was pretty fun game to play throughout the story, at least to me. My only problem was first 8-10 hours, which are boring af, I had to push myself through that because I could see the game will become much better later.
Didn’t nail it at all. If you faught a horde at the very beginning of the game you wouldn’t be able to complete the game. And the reason why people drive chopper bikes around is because 1) it was a biker area and 2) all the cars were abandoned, in the middle of the road and would be blocking anything other then a bike throughout the entire game. There’s nothing wrong with days gone, it’s just stuff that you don’t like about it. A person doesn’t immediately become cold hearted. Deacon was suffering everyday thinking that it’s his fault his wife died. None of the characters were poorly written or poorly acted either.
A masterpiece for me❤️. Loved Deacon because of the character development, he wasn't supposed to be a likable character at the start, but with the story, his character develops beautifully. I loved the flashbacks and how none of them got with anyone even after thinking that the other one is dead which happens A LOT in other media. This game felt like another GTA 4 for me, a game i fall in love with so deeply but others hated it. I love these two because their story is crafted with seriousness and great care. Also the music in both of these games is epic. Really wish we could get a sequel to Days gone.
I thought the “reveal” with Sarah was great. You can feel the tension between the characters along with the restraint Deacon & Sarah had to muster due to the environment of the camp they’re in. Wizard Island is the military culture turned up to the max thanks to Col Garret. Fraternization is an important “line” that officers (Sarah) and enlisted (Deacon) personnel have to respect. Sarah is aware of how crazy Col Garret is with how he’s leading the camp and Deacon is using his prior-military situational awareness to hide the feelings they’re feeling during the initial reunion. Kinda corny but well thought-out scene in my opinion. Great video aside!
The cons you mentioned could very well be someone else's pros, so it's all subjective. One could argue that the sometimes awkward lines make the dialogue seem more authentic. Why does everything has to be done a certain way to please the player? Also, the lenght of this game is one of it's strongest points in my view, I'm tired of seeing titles priced at 60$ that are short and offer almost no replayability. Overall, Days Gone is certainly one of my favourites and I've been gaming for 20+ years.
I started gaming on a brand new 1st year ATARI 2600 , and you Sir are correct .. @@SydBarker the game is repetitive garbage. only redeeming quality is the hordes but even that will get repetitive by the end game. story is also trash and too long. deacon is not like-able at all.
Hey there's some pretty legit reasons for bikes to be the "designated" mode of transport: less fuel consumption, more easily repairable, can easily squeeze through obstacles such as abandoned cars
Great video btw, commentary's very enjoyable
Thank you! and I agree, and i'm kinda bummed I didn't say "I understand the fuel and squeeze side of the argument" I just think it's funny how EVERYONE is now a Harley Davidson BIKER, not even 1 sport bike or some electric alternative, and not 1 car (except boozer in his GIANT ASS TRUCK that he somehow seems to get around fine in).
@@JackSather Aye, makes sense man
The sound argument stands. And it's a big deal in this game's universe
@@JackSather its Oregon. Ever been there? Hells Angels are everywhere
Hordes really are the selling point of this game, even the music when you get near them puts you on edge. The plan for tackling them smoothly always seems to go to shit too, and you end up in this chaotic chase through the terrain or buildings. Definitely a type of concept that needs to be introduced to other games.
Left 4 Dead?
L4D and even World War Z do the hordes better. Days Gone is the pinnacle "eh" game. It does nothing good but it does nothing bad either, and there's nothing that makes it stand out
It could've been alot better... Hopefully, if they ever plan an sequel, it's not as bad.
They totally are i mean look at all the e3 material its just about hordes
@@grillmeisterkush6396 well in the game he's riding more of a dirtbike than a chopper anyways. *depending how you define a chopper*

Like, what?
Not true the colonel was completely ok with fraternizing among officers. But not officers and pawns lol
@@ferdinand9555 I liked the Nero missions tbh

What the game did well they did incredibly well. The combat, riding and customising your bike etc was amazing. It deserved a sequel but sadly the studio is working on a different Ip.
Uh nah it dont deserve a sequel. Let the ip die.

@@arshadsiddiqui9071 why what happened?
Good info. I wish they explained all of that in the game.
@@Shawnredfield98 Explain basic facts? most roads are destroyed or blocked, wtf are you gonna do with a car?
@@xvinis Bro what about the upkeep on a car? besides motorbike there's only bicycles left, there are infected dogs that can outrun a fully upgraded bike
Its not that the roads are just destoryed or blocked, the safest way to travel far away from the nests if on the dirt tracks laid out in the map. While a loud bike motor can alert a horde it can run faster than any of the zeeks, besides the runners, but those dont travel with hordes
The reason hordes don't attack most of the bases in the game its because its almost impossible and its out of the way of the pheromone laid path they use to go back to hibernating, they go out of the caves for drinking and scavenging food
All camps are guarded first by the geography of the land, Copeland's is surrounded by a cliff to the left, a lake to the right, although its one of the weakest camps in term of security
Hhot springs is completely surrounded by a lake with fast moving currents, only access if by a bridge they can easily destroy which also bottlenecks all incoming zeeks
Lost lake is surrounded by water and a marsh that zombies get stuck in
Diamond lake and wizard island are impregnable
I agree with you but I really don't think spending 10 hours before getting to Iron Mike does anything for the game.
Days gone has a lot of problems but I really enjoyed it. I was hoping there would be a second one because I think the studio could have learned from some of their mistakes

I remember when the devs debated rather or not to add a ladder sliding mechanic to the game because they thought it was to unrealistic but were completely fine with the player having the ability to essentially slow time
Bad point
not really, its from the characters point of view when deek focuses his aim
I agree with them on that. Focus is quite practical and aesthetic at the same time. While sliding a ladder wouldn't add a lot in my opinion.
You do realize people can do that in real life right? All your doing when you focus is slowing your perception of time, giving you more time to react
i finally decided to play the game... and it rlly got me hooked up.. to the point i finished it in 2 days with small breaks.... i think its hella underrated. And honestly- the story felt quite short to me lol- overall i would give it 9/10 (my personal opinion based on how i enjoyed the story and gameplay)
the motorcycles actually were explained in a story mission where its said the highways and roads were blocked by too many cars to be able to drive a car
True
And from a mechanical perspective there is less that can go wrong in a bike, they are WAY more fuel efficient and it's easier to swap parts around. Bikes just make more sense, the ammount of cars that can go offroad that you would find would be pretty damn slim

Also bikes are way easier to work on.
Give more examples. Intriguing.

That's a bit of nit pic tbh.
Me2 I killed a lot off them before going to the military camp.
they're very easy to avoid. I have over 90 hours in the game, and I never really had a full battle a horde.
You missed some things
Rippers forced people into the group by giving them pcp or just killing them if they refused
And Sarah and Decon were weird at first because they had to pretend to not know each other

The only bad thing about this game was that it dragged on in the end. The last third could' ve been cut off and you wouldn' t even notice it.
I think having the hordes at the end game makes more sense for pacing. You go from running from hordes in beginning game to takiing them all on.
@P0wFish *slow clap*
Playing this game on hard makes it a lot better. Whenever I had to pull over for gas or supplies it either went horrible or fine. I wish I never played this game on normal.
i played thru survival. youre absolutely right, in this game the harder the better.
I played on hard first, and you can't fast travel, and leveling up bases to be able to buy new guns is one of the biggest grinds in game history, but that's basically the only negative thing about it, everything else on hard makes the game justice.
I played Survival 2 and still was easy for me
I played it on Hard and it was still trash
In my opinion, this game EASILY sits amongst the best Sony exclusives. The writing, while I think its fine...I get it. However, the "acting is bad"? Are you kidding me!? The acting is fantastic, regardless if the lines aren't. I'm seriously flabbergasted at how you can think the acting is bad.
i just feel like he spends way too much time looking deep into things. the game is great
Acting and VA is on par with FFVII Remake or Mass Effect Andromeda, it's just awful.
It’s mostly the voice direction that sucks ass, even with talented actors a lot of the dialogue feels stiff and unnatural
just a point that i want to make is that you don't have to play 80% of the game to fight a horde, i fought 1 of them before even meeting Tuck, and another just after meeting her and i was like 2 hours in maximum and most of it was just exploring, and i understand that they made a huge mistake with the balancing of hordes, there should be smaller ones in the beggining area and they start to grow large as you progress but i don't know if they did it by stupidity or if they didn't believe that the players would manage to take down a horde with five molotovs a pistol and crossbow
Did you?
So it can be done?
I loved those flashback parts. The dialogs were so well written and their chemistry made me smile. I LOVED this game ❤
Basically the only excellent thing of the game, ( the voice acting I’m talking about, it’s not really good written)they really did that well. But everything else is what we already seen and with a lot of flaws.
Except the fact that these kind of missions are in every single open world game so that made me feel bored 😴😴

Although this is definitely a late comment to the vid, PLEASE go check out the cutscene post-story with the NERO guy, I am not gonna talk too much about it for fear of spoiling for others, but I liked that quite a bit and it added to the story of nero and the infection and all that.
YOU ARE CORRECT!!! i know what you're talkin about! that was a cool setup for a sequel 😢 i think sony ended up passing on a second one..
Something that I always found funny was Deacon’s invisible flashlight.
Gonna be honest dropped the video in the first 2 minutes. “Why Does No One Use Cars?”
Because Most of the highways are covered in Choke points, and Massive Pile-up and you use back roads to drive on for half the game.
Not gonna lie man, you're rapidly climbing the charts as one of my favorite video essay youtubers. Keep up the great work.

the motorcycles are because of their maneuverability, they can get places cars cant, they can squeeze through cars blocking roads and what not

He did say the hordes in the *story* and not just free-roaming.
@@DrBodyshot correct, i meant story driven hordes
This is a necro post but you can fight hordes without them showing up on your map and still get the rewards
Yeah, you could bump into a horde early on. There is a small one in the cave right near one of the first infestation sites on the bridge, maybe 50 freakers. A few molotavs, a pistol and a .22 repeater aint gonna kill it. I danced around these until I got an assualt rifle with a decent sized clip.

idc what anyone says Days Gone is by far one of my absolute favorite games of all time, We need a sequel especially with the O'brian secret ending.
Dogwater game
This was seriously one of the best games ive ever played . Best story and all. Ppl like this is why we didnt get a days gone 2 or 3!!!
Genuinely, if it weren't for Sam Witwer being involved in this game, I never would have cared about it. And even then, his direction is very...strange for him. Lotta potential wasted here in between the bursts of fun
Ya i love that actor too
Deacon is an pretty cool guy that doesn't afraid of nothing

One of the top 5 games for me. The world they crafted was so beautiful.
Very Avarage game in my opinion
you gotta have really low standards if this is one of your top 5 games
Last of us 2 is literally better in every objective way, but degustibus
Masterpiece for me
@@dex3625 for real
Handguns and shotguns are differentiated from rifles mostly because of their range, purpose and accuracy. That line was just supposed to highlight that the character loves the 2nd amendment or something like that I guess.
The large use of bikes was explained. It’s due to the large number of cars blocking roads so the bikes made it miles easier for people to get around without being blocked
And they take less gas which is scarce.
But when you play the game, there’s plenty of room to drive cars around. And you can always fuel up at gas stations.
Your point with everyone using bikes actually is explained.
In a car you couldn’t drive through the tunnels and you also need more fuel for cars.
My car gets better gas mileage than my motorcycle. A old school bike might get 25mpg, my car gets 42mpg.
@@EmergencyChannel Your bike sucks lol I spend like 7$ on hours of riding.
A massively underrated game.
The video literally tells you why it isn't 😑
It's just average.
No, is mediocre.

Its dogwater
I want a game like Fallout New Vegas with graphics and characters like RDR 2, with a nice bike/motorcycle like Days Gone. That's my dream game right there.
That sounds amazing actually. It'll be cool if there's a coop option where you could ride around your motorcycle with your friends.
Plus the roads started turning to shit too lol
I can't see harleys cutting through mud or dirt roads this well either.
People in here talking never rode a bike in their life.
On another note I could forgive a lot in this game if they rode dirtbikes not harleys lol
Also SPOILERS
The game did hint a more I Am Legend route where the zombies have conscious and in the secret ending, the scientist guy is already infected and has gain a conscious and warned Deacon that the worst is yet to come setting up the sequel.
Speaking of hordes, you can go and kill hordes in-between the storylines to build up some skill points and currency to build up your status with your camp.
I do agree this game needs improvement and I hope that this game gets a sequel cause it deserves one.
He doesn't get it. He's one of those clueless youtubers, thinking he's good at faulting a game. It shows he doesn't even understand some of the plot.
You're absolutely right
Days Gone is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
I loved this game sooo much, the open world element with amazing graphics, weather changes, rain, mud, snow, wind, mountains, stars, I could go on and on.... incredible game, the missions and story sucked me in and hammering around on the motorbike made it fun AF to explore, I hope they make a sequel and if they dont I look forward to a remake in years to come.
Deacon is a great character. Most relatable I've seen in a while. Also he's an enforcer, so it makes sense for him to make people stutter.
You literally just said word for word what I ranted to my girlfriend about when I played this game yesterday.
I full on hated deacon.
There was just too much ludo narrative dissonance when playing as him, and it was hard to root for him because his morals were very inconsistent.
"I'm a murderer, thief, liar, I send people unwittingly into a labor camp and I should be in prison. But I draw the line at killing unarmed women (while killing hundreds of women in the game) and I am Politically Correct, so that makes everything okay."
Deacon hates everyone in the game who is exactly like him (Skizzo included) but wants to think of himself as the "Good Guy". I got the feeling Deacon would have betrayed every camp in the game if it meant saving Boozer or Sarah.

I really enjoyed this game - going to play it again now that it's 60fps.
You missed the whole point of the Nero scientists missions. It didn't end up with you fighting a big hairy guy. It ended I am legend style where you find out that the scientist thats been helping you is really a zombie human hybrid.
If I could change a few things about Days Gone it would be these;
Days Gone was one of the first games i played on PS4 and i just loved it! The only thing that annoyed me was the empty fuel problem.
5:28 This line isn't made up. It's an actual thing people say in the military, and yes, there is a difference between a rifle and a gun.

It's a perfectly fine escapist romp. I've played other zombie game WAY less entertaining than Days Gone. The comparisons to The Last of Us aren't really fair. Sure, they're in the same genre, but so are Die Hard and The Raid. They're just different. Comparing media is pointless. Everybody drives a bike in the game because if an apocalypse ever does happen all the highways and stuff are gonna be clogged up with all the idiots trying to get out in their four wheel cars??
It’s kind of one of those things that you figure out on your own if you think about it?? In the end of days when everybody’s trying to get out of town you’re gonna need a bike-
You’re gonna need a bike that’s capable of doing off-road as well as tough enough to not break down on you after a little abuse etc. etc. etc.
Personally i really liked the game. What i didnt like however is the fact that on survival difficulty the mini map is not visible. I mean even on your dam bike! So you constantly have to press v so you can see where you are going for only about 4 seconds

Me too. I quit playing. Just didn’t care about having to find gas and parts for the bike.
I got to the part when you finally meet Sarah and got so freaking mad at it that I never picked the game up again
GTA4 is not hated lol. You're not as unique as you think you are.
@@PayneWewton ok 👍
I love DG and I am very unhappy that I listened to all the bad mouthing reviews and only picked up DG in March of 2021 .. I absolutely love DG and I am unhappy that we won't be getting DG2 .. hell I'm in the tail end of yet another play through ..
The part where the guy said it’s a rifle not a gun is a reference to the dudes service in the Marine Corps. Marines don’t refer to rifles as guns.
I'm Canadian, and when you put J Rock in the video, I friggen died. Good vid my guy!
Finally a Jrock comment haha
honestly one of the best games i've played last year. i loved the story and the setting. and i have never ever played anything like fighting the hoards.
did you even watch the video? the game was trash
@@independentmissile200 the game is good, youtubers aren't infallible deities, you know?
@@SydBarker the game is repetitive garbage. only redeeming quality is the hordes but even that will get repetitive by the end game. story is also trash and too long. deacon is not like-able at all.
