I think, she simply doesn't know how beautiful she is, hence the constant uncertainty.

That performance was so heartfelt! Also, I love the contrast between how perpetually cool and composed Paul Lewis is and how so utterly enthusiastic Neil is about Sue's performance! Love this!

Moved to tears. Resonated on so many levels due to similar experiences and personality. Makes me feel I can do it too. Thanks Sue and thanks for uploading such a beautiful program.

That was very moving. When Sue says she "lost myself" into Pathetique, that is what it is about..:)
I'm a beginner and found a two paged version of this music ( treble cleff only) in an old book I have- I must set aside my own self recriminations and keep at it!

America needs more quality programming. How I wish the Reality, SitCom and Procedural would run their cours. Then again I am madly in love with Sue Perkins. I know she doesn't swing my way, but one can always play pretend. She is such a wit and talent. I absolutely love her on QI.

Thank you for uploading this episode. After seeing this I have decided to play the piano again. Put behind me all the frustrations and fears and play the piano from my own heart. That is what Sue has taught me. Thanks so much. (I'm crying as I type this actually).

I was a late starter in piano - as an adult, almost 20 years ago. I'm thrilled that this has inspired you to play again. Good luck & thanks for the comment :-)

This was wonderful. Well done, Sue Perkins, you nailed that piece! I feel so many of the same things when I'm playing piano. Always get frustrated because I think what I play is not good enough. And then I stop. This has really given me confidence to just sit down and play and not worry if it's good enough.

I too must thank you for what you upload. It brings great variety to RUclips.
It is partly your fault (in a good way) that I haven't turned on the telly for two days!

I can so empathise with Sue here. Until recently, I hadn't played a musical instrument for nearly 30 years, but decided to try again. All those feelings of inferiority cam back to me but I just decided to go for it anyway, and try and just do it for fun. I'm thinking of starting to play the trumpet again after a 31 year break, and am very nervous about it, but life is too short to let that hold me back.

she was so great! why was she so hard on herself?? her technique is 3000 times better than mine

Because we all compare ourselves to others, and it's fatal for one's self esteem.

    • @JennySieck

Christa Lee she was so hard on herself because she was taught to be that way. That pianist/ teacher helped her have a different experience and to work through her fears and gain a different way of experiencing things. What a wonderful program.

I can play that piece but playing it in front of a discerning audience I could not do, I'd have a nervous breakdown.
