I did a TV commercial shoot with Albert Watson years ago. Fantastic artist, such a pleasure to shoot with. He also knows the #1 rule for shooting great portraits - put the subject at ease. He was frank with Jobs and knew how to get him to pose the way he wanted.
I was willing to take a photo of me like that. And I searched "how to take photo like steve jobs" And I got the just perfect video. Now I will think I am sitting in a conference and no one agreeing with me and I know I am correct.. Thank you so much Mr.Albert Great tip for this photo.
I'm more interested in the technique. Was it taken in black and white or edited into it? Also, the clarity, it's really detailed. Do I need a high end camera to take such a good picture?
If you want to capture fine details and tones from a scene you need a top end camera. Albert shoots with Large Format which is very capable of doing that. If you want to do that in digital then minimum you need medium format, even then you wont match 4x5 but you can come very close.
@@Dan-jg7zl Splicing can achieve medium/large format up to practically 99%. Random number yes, and 99% because really, splicing will never be truly medium/large. Because it's well.....fake.
Understanding people is a big key in taking someone's portrait. It is the skill that separates the Master from a dude with a camera.

Albert Watson a true master photographer who I met in 1982 in NYC
I love this story so much; I could hear it over and over!
Iconic moment between legends. Albert seems to always make an effort to translate a natural expression or posture from the talent onto camera.
I never questioned where that picture came from but it is an iconic picture of an iconic man. Truly fitting.
Inspiring and revealing both of the photographer and subject. Thanks.
Simply amazing !
Incredible story. Thanks for sharing!
Funny, I never noticed the smile before, but I see it.
Great little story - amazing shot! Sad that visionary left us early.
can't say it better
Vau, after hearing the story of the image, I can clearly see a smile, because Jobs is right. Incredible image :O

Perhaps a pedantic question.. but modifier used as main was?
Looking at the key light it's looks like a softbox was used.

For some reason I see a resemblance to John Lennon. Maybe it's just those circular specs.

Bullshit...this photo was taken with an iPhone. 😂
Just kidding, don't hate me 😀
If it was, it makes even more spectacular.
