    I own the place behind those targets. Dan and his wife have always been great about making sure that we are comfortable with his setup and that everything is safe. It's a nice setup, good work Dan.

    Sir, I have to say when I first saw you a couple years ago I was really on the fence. Not sure why, I'm not a youtube junkie or troll, actually this is the first comment I've ever made anywhere. But man, now- after watching you more- you are a legit cat. Your own videos, the MFJJ stuff, the CH podcast, etc. Solid. Don't change homie, keep being who you are. Nothing but respect.

    Love the target setup! One thing i had to add to mine was 4'x6' horse stall mats to catch the occasional stray arrow from a buddy over shooting with me or equipment malfunctions. I started with an 8'x9' back stop and when my buddy nearly missed i doubled the size to 16' wide by 9' high. I used 4x4s with 2x4s across them to hold the mats and have had great longevity. 3 years full sun and the mats will stop a 4mm arrow with broadhead no problem. I have houses in the distance behind me as well and with the backstop my wife no longer worries about me causing a lawsuit for us lol thanks for all the great content over the years. I also just started listening to the podcast when driving and its great as well. Thank you for the great work for the archery community!

    I’ve had some 3D targets for 20 years sitting outside in NM. They look like new, because every couple years I fill in the weathering cracks with flexible caulk, and repaint the targets with outdoor house paint. You can even improve how the targets look by painting them more realistically. I’ve also lost some good 3D targets to weather because I didn’t do the above. So word to the wise, take a little time and maintain your 3D targets, and you’ll keep your investments in good shape! Have fun, they are an awesome investment in high quality practice!

    Hey Brother. That's a very nice setup. I'm working my way up to having something close to your range. I finally have the ability to have my own home range after moving into my house in July of last year. So that's a start. Right now, all I have is a 22" Black Hole target and a 16" Black Hole Crossbow target that my buddy gave me. I'm definitely getting a couple 3d buck targets. And upgrading to a couple of those 365 targets. Ultimately having 6 or 7 targets to shoot at. I might even get a couple metal rings like the ones you have, to hang in front of a target. Maybe. Not sure I want to destroy multiple arrows a day. I'll go the cheap route for backstops on them all though. I'll stack up a few straw bales behind each of them.

    Missed elk season this fall for the first time in many years while recovering from spine surgery. Watched way too much RUclips as a result. I’ve been a die hard mechanical broadhead (Grim Reaper and now Sevr) guy for years but am having second thoughts after hearing your comments. I shoot a Ventum 33 at 71 lbs and 30” draw with Axis arrows and 3 Q2i fusion x-ii 2.1 fletch. Would you recommend the Hades or Micro Hades or something else? Also considering the Iron Will single bevel. Thanks for the great videos!

  • @NMBowhntr
    @NMBowhntr 11 месяцев назад

    Pro Tip: I’ve had a 3D range in my backyard for 15 years, including the full-size elk. You just need to give the targets some TLC every year or two. When you get weathering cracks, you can fill them with flexible indoor/outdoor caulk and smooth it out. A good outdoor house paint can fill in the small exposed bubbles and protect the foam from the UV rays. Plus, if you do it right, you can make the targets look almost photo realistic. When I buy a new target now, my first step is to improve the look of the target with some more realistic spray paint, and re-apply every year to preserve the foam. If you stay ahead of the weathering, a good foam target has an almost indefinite lifespan, especially with the foam repair kits on the market for the shot-up parts of the target. Oh, and avoid broadheads unless it’s right before the season and you just HAVE to get the practice shots in, unless you like buying foam repair kits every couple of years.

    I was hyped about the 365 target and it’s been pretty bad. Didn’t even hold up 1 week without chunking . Never shot broadheads into it. CS was responsive but really couldn’t do anything for me. Rhinehart has been the best for me out of block, 365, morrel

    Shooting bows in a neighborhood is pretty iffy to begin with. Adding in a steel target and ricochets just adds to the iffy-ness. No matter how good of a shot you are, bad things can happen. Releases can malfunction, d-loops can break, etc. I'm thankful that we were able to move out of a neighborhood and onto a 2 acre lot surrounded by woods so I can shoot safely whenever I want.

    I don't like outserts, so for the money, I'd rather use the bag targets. For the cost of all of those foam targets, I could build a wall of bag targets. But for broadheads, of course you need to have some foam targets and those 365 targets look great.

    The house or structure behind your fence had me a bit concerned. You said you had an open field. My little range I can shoot to 80. My concern is that I worry about possibility of arrow deflecting off the top of my target and over onto neighbors property. If they are out working in their yard, I don't shoot. I have two structures behind my target and I still worry about deflection. You are obviously lot better shot than this old man. Jealous of all your targets. Thanks for the content! God bless!
