Yes, because Lions are dominating almost every week. No, because they were a superbowl contender before the season started. O'Connell and the vikes were projected 3-4 wins. They are tied 3rd best record in the league
Dan Campbell should *absolutely* be Coach Of The Year -- he's about to take a historically moribund franchise to it's first-ever Superbowl -- how is this even a conversation?! GO LIONS!!!
Because Kevin O’Connell made Sam Darnold an mvp candidate, and took a roster that was supposed to win 6.5 games this year to 11 wins, and is on the door step of taking the nfc north from the Lions if the lions lose to the bills on Sunday. Koc also had a player die, his starting corner tear his acl in training camp, his first round rookie qb miss the entire season, and a lot of other hiccups along the way. It’s a close call, but no one expected the vikes to be at 11 wins this year and that’s because of the culture and coaching the Vikings have
@limitedbom2206 the cost of putting 40+ points in multiple games. I like Campbells 'attack' based offense and defense but he definitely just gets his players hurt in the process often
@slumpt420 but does points scored from that high powered offense correlate to injuries mainly on the defensive side of the ball Dan Campbell fault lol
Dan Campbell hands down. I am a Patriots fan. This guy is amazing. The whole coaching staff is fantastic. Next man up. These are the Pats of old. I love watching this team. Would love to see lions win the SB.
Talking about how there's so many coaches that deserve COTY this year while spending 8 minutes talking about one guy is certainly a choice. Kevin O'Connell faced tougher adversity this season, yet you didn't name drop him once.
The same reason why Tomlin feels he himself hasnt won it is exactly why Campbell should get it. Its not expected, & the majority of media had the Lions declining this year. Hes earned it the most
Big lions fan here, I just want to say I hope the Vikings crumble the rest of the year. You guys have a superbowl and have had much success in the recent years. Give this one to the lions!
Not trying to be an asshole or anything, but do a little research on the NFC North if you're a "Big Lions fan". Vikings have not won a Superbowl(granted they have the best franchise winning percentage of any team that hasn't won). Our record says success, but the narrative each year doesn't. It's cause we're considered a small market team.
Dan Cample is 12-1 with the best roster in football who went into the year as a Super Bowl contender. KOC went into the season with Sam Darnold and were expected to be first overall pick contenders. And they only have 1 less win than the Lions.
I can understand that Dan Campbell if the front runner for NFL Coach Of The Year but I can make a case that Mike Tomlin should be on there cause here's a man who's in his 18th season as head coach without a non-loosing season this guy won 2 Super Bowl's one as a DC with Buccaneers in 2002 and Another One as a coach in 2008 too!
He hasn't changed any type of culture. Its not like they were losing last season. I don't think he should even be in the conversation. Otherwise, why exactly hasn't he won it every year he's been coach? If he wins it now, what would the reason even be? For keeping a franchise the same? And if so, the award should definitely goto dan Campbell with that logic. Because he took a franchise that has no history of success and made it successful?
It's a coach of the year award, not a coach of three years award. The award is about performance relative to expectations. The lions were expected to be good this year. They are good. Campbell shouldn't' even be eligible.
It’s simple. People predicted the lions to be a Super Bowl contender and the Vikings to be a 5-6 win team. No one believed in Sam Darnold. It’s gotta be KOC
My brother in christ, he is playing the game like Madden. That is all he has done. Playcalling? Thats his coordinators. Roster? Beat up now, but projected superbowl team. He gets the boys riled up to play, but any ra ra guy can do what he is doing. Because he isnt doing anything you attribute to coaching. He's a helluva leader, though.
@Geoff_24 Indeed he's not. I had a coach in high school who was a great guy, great leader, but wasn't an Xs and Os guy. Won the most games in school history in the regular season, didnt even make state. At some point, you got to actually coach. What happens when his coordinators get poached is going to be telling on his abilities. I hope he does well, I've just seen the "culture" coaches have quite a shorter shelf life if you never get the job done.
Probably Vikings or Steelers should get it. Both were expected to be bad. Tomlin was, according to the "pro analysts", have his first losing season and possibly be FIRED as they all said it was time to move on... The Vikings, I don't believe anyone predicted Darnald to do so well either.. I'm a Steelers fan so knew what they would do with Wilson at the helm. I was surprised by the Vikings though but their hardcore fans may have known this was going to happen all along. Detroit was and is the powerhouse we all knew it would be.
As much as I love the coaching by Dan Campbell and the leadership displayed….I’d still select Mike Tomlin. Here’s a man who despite the QB options he had last year still finished with a winning record, this year had to make a decision to sit a young QB that had their team in a winning record but stood on his decision despite the heat he was welcoming by naming Russell his starter again(which was his decision going into this season). Russ isn’t perfect but he has the Steelers looking like a formidable playoff team and Russ plays great football during playoffs. I like O’connel too for Minnesota but Tomlin not already having a coach of the year seems to really solidify him getting it this year
COTY should go to the coach who does more with less, exceeding expectations. Campbell shoulda won it last year. They’re just doing what they’re supposed to this year. Not surprised. This isn’t a “coach of the last 3 years” award. Likely should be KOC, Tomlin, or maybe POS Payton even.
6:43 it doesn’t end… it’s just now the road to our dynasty!!! We have years and years of hate and pain that we receive we are ready to give it back out to other teams…. We better have a 30/30 film made about us in 10 years
I think Chuck Knoll might have a word about turning around a franchise, though the Lions have a longer run at futility... I love MCDC, finally making the Lions relevant finally
Even if the lions do not win the super bowl or lose in the championship game again I will still see this year as a win for us. While I’d love to see us finally make one and think we have a great chance of doing that. I just don’t see it as super bowl or bust.
Yeah, i dont think Aaron Glenn or Ben Johnson are leaving next year either. I think they know theres something special in Detroit, so why leave when the fire is only getting bigger? #GoLions
That's when you are wrong. At least one will go. That's how you measure how good a coach or system your team has nowadays. If not then your coach is nor as good or respected as you think. We vikings know will be loosing at least 1 if not more.
I'm going to say what no one wants to say; coach of the year is not based on emotions [i.e. because everyone loves Dan Campbell's "story"], coach of the year is based on the narrative of the season. I am a Vikings fan and for this example I'll use the Packers. Let's say the Vikings were picked to win the Super Bowl and they do what the Lions are doing but the Packers weren't even in the convo beginning of season and were in the race for a #1 seed; my choice for coach of the year would be the coach of the Packers. I hate the emotions of choices because it taints the award to me. We all feel Dan Campbell has done an amazing job but they should have picked him last year based on my same metric I just gave. KOC is doing this with a QB NO ONE gave a chance to and a team that was only due to win "6 games". That's coach of the year stuff. Again I would say this same thing about any team/coach in this scenario because I'm speaking non-biased. 🤷💯
Lions were 3-28 the previous 31 seasons at Lambeau prior to 2022, including MVP Aaron Rodgers and the 13-4 Packers destroying them per usual 35-7 in the first trip Campbell took up there. Since? A three-game winning streak in Green Bay and sweeps two of the last three seasons. (PS: You get the story wrong about how Ben Johnson became OC - Dan Campbell called plays the last 9 games of the 2021 season, and he, along with Johnson and Goff, created the offense you see today. Campbell is NOT just a CEO coach. He wants you to think he is, but he's not. Everyone, EVERYONE is underestimating how great he is - and in 10 years this comment will age like the finest wine.)
Also to add to this they said Ben was DC guy when tbh, as much as I hate to say he was Patricia's guy. He was the one that actually got him to the lions
Nobody is underestimating him but the award is based of narrative. The links were projected to be this good unlike the broncos, vikings, and steelers. Like thr award given out last year it could also be given to the rams but I think Campbell is good but shouldn't be the coach of the year
Thought they were gonna talk about how Kevin O’Connell has resurrected Sam Darnold’s career and the Vikings are smashing the Vegas win total over. Instead just got a Lions meat riding fest
He's definitely deserving of this but if some how kyle shannhann gets into the playoffs and goes far I think he should finally win it but Dan would be my first pick as of now
I have to disagree and in my opinion, the difference is how each has been able to deal with injuries. The Lions are winning with a decimated defense. Contrary to popular belief, the Lions have been hurting since week 2 and they still can’t be stopped. SF basically folded with no where near the amount of injuries that the Lions have had. MCDC all the way!
Just sayin.. if KOC turns the Vikings into SB champions... he should get it. Hands down no questions asked. Rehabbing the Vikings into Super Bowl Contenders and his work with QB's should be applauded to absolutely NO end. His cohesion in the locker room and the love and respect he gets from his staff and players is off the scale.

No, because they were a superbowl contender before the season started. O'Connell and the vikes were projected 3-4 wins. They are tied 3rd best record in the league
But they don’t dominate the Vikings 😜
Dan Campbell is the type of guy who won't even accept the award until the Lions have won the Super Bowl, but he totally deserves it.
That’s why Kevin O’Connell is in the discussion.
@@noyou113 Respect to the Vikings and KOC but, even if the Lions lose on Sunday and the Vikings win, Lions still #1 in the division due to the tie breaker. Just means that, if both teams win their next two after, that Week 17 is for tops in the division.
@@noyou113 There’s way more people that deserve mvp over Sam darnold, I wouldn’t even put him in the conversation to be honest… you just sound like a biased Vikings fan.
@@Koll-Manee he should be behind saquon and Allen, but ahead of Goff, Jackson, and mahomes. The only reason he’s not is because of his past, and people don’t trust him.
@@noyou113doesn’t know football, even if they lose to the bills (and thats a hard even) the bills aren’t in they division so it’s still a top seed in the nfc and won’t effect the standings. And what matt Stefford and the rams did to the bills I’m sure we can do even better with our offense. Plus the nfc is the hardest division to win in and look where the lions stand. Go Lions
Nah, everyone expected the lions to be this good, everyone wrote the Vikings off this year after the offseason they had. Kevin O Connell transforms every qb into a good qb. It’s a close call, but no one expected the vikes to be at 11 wins this year and that’s because of the culture and coaching the Vikings have
lions have 18 or more players on IR and are still tied for the best record in the NFL. It ain't even close.
@@limitedbom2206the Vikings had a player die
@limitedbom2206 the cost of putting 40+ points in multiple games. I like Campbells 'attack' based offense and defense but he definitely just gets his players hurt in the process often
@slumpt420 but does points scored from that high powered offense correlate to injuries mainly on the defensive side of the ball Dan Campbell fault lol
@@shaunmeserole9619 there's a reason the lions got the ball often to put up those points. Their defense has been balling too
Still Detroit Vs Everybody for everyone that’s been riding with them
As a lifetime Vikings fan, this year Lions team is incredible
No matter what the vikings do they get no media attention but ehatever
LFG Lions
One Pride 🦁
One Pride 🦁 for Hutch 🦁
Expected to be top in the NFC this year. Detroit Expected to be in last in the NFC this year. Vikings. Guess we'll see who wins out.
Your missing the point. It's called coach of the YEAR. But anyways he has transformed Russell Wilson so he should still be in consideration at least
The fact he didn’t get it last year.. and now this bs race again!
Nobody could do what he’s doing!!! Nobody
Literally have a team in his division with a backup and 1 less loss
More not less@@quentinsowell3704
My brother in christ, he is playing the game like Madden. That is all he has done.
Playcalling? Thats his coordinators.
Roster? Beat up now, but projected superbowl team.
He gets the boys riled up to play, but any ra ra guy can do what he is doing. Because he isnt doing anything you attribute to coaching. He's a helluva leader, though.
@@willtollefson4746No, he isn't doing what you consider "coaching."
Bro dan better win after what he has done
As much as I love the coaching by Dan Campbell and the leadership displayed….I’d still select Mike Tomlin. Here’s a man who despite the QB options he had last year still finished with a winning record, this year had to make a decision to sit a young QB that had their team in a winning record but stood on his decision despite the heat he was welcoming by naming Russell his starter again(which was his decision going into this season). Russ isn’t perfect but he has the Steelers looking like a formidable playoff team and Russ plays great football during playoffs. I like O’connel too for Minnesota but Tomlin not already having a coach of the year seems to really solidify him getting it this year
MCDC definitely COTY he really changed things around and how people viewed the City🦁💙💪🏽
He should have won it last year! This year it's tougher because there are probably 3 other deserving candidates as well.
Look at the past VOTING data - Player MVP goes to #1 seed teams and Coach Of The Year goes to top tier Playoff teams
Johnson was one of the only staff members kept from the Patricia regime. Kinda crazy Dan picked him out from that crowd
Yessss,Coach Campbell should absolutely 100% be
Coach Of The Year!!!! ❤
Dan campbell should win it this year. We lost some big defensive players like Hutchinson and we are still winning.
Dan Campbell is the man no doubt as a Steelers Fan he does deserve to be Coach of the year!
I don’t see how anyone else could win this besides him
I'm going to say what no one wants to say; coach of the year is not based on emotions [i.e. because everyone loves Dan Campbell's "story"], coach of the year is based on the narrative of the season. 🤷💯
Kevin O'Connell is winning with Sam Darnold that's why he will win coach of the year
KOC WINS! SKOL!!!
As a Vikings fan, I am NOT behind the lions. I love Dan Campbell as a person, but I pray on their downfall weekly
Great segment. Go Lions. Also, doing this with your wife has got to be the coolest thing ever. Shoutout to yall!
Like thr award given out last year it could also be given to the rams but I think Campbell is good but shouldn't be the coach of the year
2:06 Because I'm a child 😂😂😂
Yes dan coach of the year forsure
Remember folks, it’s coach of the year. Not coach of the last five years.
ESPN had the Vikings being the worst team in the league at the season start
Idk. Can’t have all pros all over the field and stumble into the playoffs. This ain’t Kyle’s year
Lions were already the favorite, Vikings were projected #1 pick and worst record, expectations going into the season would show koc should win it
COTY !!!! period!
Rumour has it that nowadays, Chuck Norris, before going to sleep, checks under his bed for (Coach) Dan Campbell.
If the Lions win the Super Bowl, there will be a movie made about it. I guarantee it
Called “True GRIT”
Yeah it can be used again
@ Love it
Just sayin.. if KOC turns the Vikings into SB champions... he should get it. Hands down no questions asked. Rehabbing the Vikings into Super Bowl Contenders and his work with QB's should be applauded to absolutely NO end. His cohesion in the locker room and the love and respect he gets from his staff and players is off the scale.
Its a regular season award so no
@@wattsinc. and? Vikings had a similar record last year compared to Lions, they have a similar record THIS year as well.. The difference is.. KOC took a washed up QB nobody wanted and turned him into a SB Contender in the OFFSEASON ...
Dan Campbells biggest accomplishments thus far are going for it on 4th down alot.. and ... uhhmm... trading Stafford for Goff? I mean.. thats about it homie.
@@Nazgull2k1 MCDC has out coached KOC multiple times now, my god you Vikings fan are beyond delusional. love this line from vikings fans "it's a rebuild year" ffs how long have you guys been rebuilding at this point? lul the Lions were also in rebuild last year, and over achieved by making it to the NFCCG. MCDC also turned Jared Goff into a legit MVP candidate by getting his confidence back (Sam is behind Jared Goff in the MVP conversation, check Vegas.)
EDit: also, the whole "he goes for it too much on 4th down" is so dumb, how dare a head coach believe in his players! Jared Goff (said himself to Richard Sherman after the game) was the one who told Dan to go for it on 4th during the last drive of the packers game, MCDC was going to kick the FG.
@@Ray-___-talk to early the season ain’t over yet remember that ain’t no team going 16-1 in a regular season not even Tom Brady 😂 it coming
@@Nazgull2k1 I bet you’re that guy who also said MCDC doesn’t deserve the award last season as well ay bud? From turning a losing franchise to getting them to a NFC Conference Championship. Nah shut up.
2:06 haha she said doo doo 😂
Should be Andy Reid but he wins regardless of how many pieces are injured every year so no one ever talks about it.
Should have won last year too, it's disrespectful to consider anyone else
Lions fan here.
What’s a loss?? 😂😂
Well considering you have one I think you would know
And you just had another yesterday. We are coming!!! SKOL
If you think a super bowl favorite going into this seasons head coach should get coach of the year of a guy who took a team projected to win 4-6 games this season to 11-2 almost beat the lions with a QB who was at one point one of the worst QB in the league than you don't know what coach of the year truly means. its like saying Andy Reid deserves it because they're winning all these games
I’m sorry I don’t think Dan should win for the simple fact everyone expected them to be one of the best teams in the league, KO and the Vikings were projected about 4 wins and are in contention for the 1st seed. And has one of the best records in the league. No hunter and cousins was supposed to be the doom of the franchise
Every coach needs a brad Holmes
Knocking Freen Bay out of the playoffs is Detroits SB toll this day. Ive watched that fame atleast a dozen times
Green Bay is still in the playoffs
@Tillerman-gp7wp was talking about 2022 season when we beat GB at home . This is the game that Rodgers decided to leave since he knee there was no beating Detroit!
The Lions could be in 1st place this whole year, still play well to end the season but lose a couple games and end up 2nd in the north
Really need to see the Vikes lose another game or 2, please
Lions are gonna lock this up tho, they just have to 🫣
Yes he should 🎉💙✨
I can deny your analysis, it was interesting however
Yes, next question.
Kevin O'Connell easy. HE WAS EXPECTED TO WIN
Dan Campbell has been a great coach but everyone knew Lions was going to do well. On the other hand, Kevin O Connell and Mike Tomlin had expectations that their season was going to be terrible. But the fact that they were able to have a positive record means they should be coach of the year. Much respect to Dan Campbell but everyone knew Lions was going to take the #1 spot.
But Campbell hasn’t gotten it for turning Detroit around. That’s bigger than both of them. Maybe if they gave it to him last year but they didn’t so there’s that.
Yah but the lions went from a laughing stock to that position over the course of 3 years due to Dan Campbell. Imagine telling people in 2022 that everyone knew the Lions were going to take number 1, and then they go in and do it
@@bertisheoff Not only that, he got the whole league going for it on fourth down now. Game changing..
If Washington makes the playoffs, Dan Quinn win COTY.

That's ok he can win coach of the year we will just take the division. Skol
You could make the case that Dan Campbell is one of the coaches of the decade with how he turned around one of the most pathetic franchises in American sports history to being the best team in its entire League
Would be a more fitting award than coach of the year to be honest
Where is matt lefleur?
Third place in his division.
What if the Eagles or Vikings get the number 1 seed?

It’s always been Detroit Vs Everybody my baby!!! need no with everybody
No way, Dan Campbell shouldn't be coach of the year
MCDC by far
Is this even a real question?! He turned around a team known for being the laughing stock of the league and has a 12-1 record. Tomlin and the Steelers won a Super Bowl before
It's coach of the YEAR. Not the last 3 years
Girl, you got me emotional! Then my man went Lord of the Rings and I got right.
What I find that's crazy is Tomlin has never got it. For that reason, I'm hoping he gets it and im a Lions fan all the way.
