Jiraiya vs Pain was probably one of the most incredible and saddest fights that happened in Shippuden. Seeing Jiraiya's strength was something to behold and shows why he is named one of the Sannin and was a candidate to become Hokage. His death was truly sad, but in the end, he showed his strength and guts to the world, along with entrusting the future to Naruto.
Hot take: on an even playing field Jiraya could beat pain. He took out two paths, while having no intel against a person that knew him, and also was fighting on pains home turf. AND he fought konan right before pain.
not every author is capable of killing one of the most beloved, most important and best created characters of all his work, doing it so well and that everything fits incredibly well: the story, the context, the moment, everything fits so that the character he goes through the front door, that's why when kishimoto shines it's to stand up and say it

I think the intensity of the moment overshadowed an ability being used that wasn’t announced either by the user or sound effects. For all we knew it could have been another explosion on the other side.
It's also not shown in the manga. The manga never shows him face the six in that moment. I'm glad they added it though because it's badass, and most people are too distracted to realize what is going on.
8:12 is the best part of the entire show. We all eventually fail, but the message to keep going because you still have goals to achieve is so good and it speaks to us all
Even though it's explained, A lot of people didnt like the fact that he went back instead of retreating and live to fight another day However, as we saw in his last moments. He still carries a huge burden of guilt that he wasn't there for Hirozen nor Minato and he's somewhat responsible of their deaths. This was sort of his redemption and was lowkey doing it for Naruto as well as he thought he was a failure of a teacher. Obviously no one would hold him accountable if he went back except Jiraya himself. I think going back to confirm Pain's identity was the best decision and we could see how his sacrifice paved the way to the biggest transformation of Naruto's character in the series
I even remember thinking why didn't jiraiya just sent a shadow clone out there to confirm his suspicion. Atleast if that shadow clone dies the memory transfer's to him and he can get out. But it's likely that he can't do it because he lost an arm so the shadow clone wouldn't last.
After I read it in the Manga, I knew that day I would do everything I can while I'm alive to name a son after Jiraiya... I'm actually divorcing my 1st wife now bcz she didn't want to accept that name and already found her replacement that agree to the name, all I need now is my 2nd son and voila... What makes Jiraiya's death even sadder is the realization of who killed him. Yes, it was Nagato who wanted to kill Jiraiya and controlled the paths of Pain, but he did this using Tendo Pain (Yahiko), who of the whole trio probably loved Jiraiya the most and would never have allowed this to happen. This just shows how cruel Nagato had become by this point.

He proceeded to tell me, "Bruh, why the fuck you gotta let me feel that shit man.." This fight..this arc and death..all of it was S-Tier..Kishimoto was cooking..
Kishimoto is my inspiration for making graphic novels, he may have plotholes and criminally underused characters but he has one of the slickest art styles I've seen, thank you Kishimoto for this masterpiece ❤️
The way this show weaves insanely silly shit and cry your eyes out serious shit is legendary. You've got Sexy Jutsus and Might Guy on one side. Then you've got the loneliness of a child who grew up with no one to love him and the death of Jiraya, one of the men who stepped in for Minato. Though honestly, Asumas death hit me the hardest. That scene where Kurenai senses it as the color goes out in the world except for that last red petal of the flower on the window sill. She puts her hand on her stomach with Asumas child and starts crying. Fucking killed me. The only worst one was SAO when that scared little girl finally finds her courage just to have Kiro's high level spring a trap their group couldn't handle, killing them all except Kiro. Then he gets the pre-recorded Christmas card from the now deceased girl, thanking him for his help and then singing Silent Night. I was barely keeping it together, then she started singing that damn song, and I literally fell off my couch crying.
This is why I hate when people say "Blah, blah, blah a character won't die because he's popular.'' Any character, no matter how popular they are, are fully capable of dying in a story.
I still to this think that the part from Jiraiya’s death to the end of the Pain Arc is one of the best written sections of an anime I have ever watched. There just hasn’t been a show that balances the ridiculousness of the world with the seriousness of the situation as well as this.
Jiraiya's death always hits hard, as hard as Itachi's. Itachi because you can see how much he loved Sasuke and how much it hurt him for doing what he did, but he still did it anyway for the sake of the greater good and for his brother. Jiraiya to Naruto instead is like Sirius Black is to Harry Potter. He finally had a father figure that genuinely cared for him after being an orphan his whole life.
The most of people dont realize, but Jiraiya and Itachi died at same day. Existe a lapse of ten episodes between the moments, but the moment when Narutos is "touched" by Jirayia ghost its the same day that he and his team is searching Sasuke... and Sasuke were fighting against Itachi.
The scene at 7:18 is my favour scene in naruto shippuden and the sound track is fight to save the world. It's my favorite aspect this battle and I loved the sound effects in that entire final attack with the pains against jiraiya.

He rejected post of hokage 3 times , he went around investigating the biggest threat akatsuki at that time , he was a father teacher figure for naruto mostly like grandfather, he made naruto who he is now . Died against pain , his last moments he thought of naruto to carry on his will . Itachi he is born as genius lived termed as villain died a hero , he sacrificed himself his clan his love for brother evrything for the sake of village even in death he didn't falter his shinobi way . Neji I am disappointed at how he died . Inoichi shikaku these people smiled knowing they r gng to die . Their final moments r conbpversing with their kids via mind communication jutsu and told them they will continue living through them .

Unlike Orochimaru who refused death , Sasuke who killed a weak Mentor, Naruto who talked Pain to death after he was defeated by Pain and revived by Minato's seal. JIRAIYA, ITACHI, AND PAIN are the Greatest Shinobi of all time. None of them were defeated to death, They chose death. Unlike Orochimaru who refused death , Sasuke who killed a weak Mentor, Naruto who talked Pain to death after he was defeated by Pain and revived by Minato's seal. Tobi who was nearly defeated by Lady ANGEL who was a lot weaker than pain. but Pain i consider him a less of a Great because He too killed his mentor out of his lack of knowledge of what was Pain's Jutsu and strategy. MY BIGGEST GREATEST TWO SHINOBI WILL BE JIRAIYA AND ITACHI.
