I was able to get another neighbor to watch your videos & they were impressed enough to have a 3rd neighbor ask me about FDs. I'm sending them all to your site.
Now that I know you guys do book winter work here in the south, specifically Georgia where we're at, will definitely be adding you to our contractor list with our engineer!
Great video! Very informative. Nice to see option of gravity fed leach system at the one house. Are leach fields just for sump pump output and French drains or do you recommend them also for downspout runs? I’d imagine you’d have to use d-box to catch debris so as not to clog up outgoing knife cut section.
Thanks for the videos, much appreciated. I'm about to tackle a forever problem here at my house. I have decades of field experience in electrical, and I'm an engineer, so I don't expect to have too much difficulty. My question is this: When you dump the leach field into the storm drain, do you install a back-flow preventor?
One question, the water is now flowing directly on that wood retaining wall... what is protecting that wood and the wood near secondary french drain on the patio?

Hi and thanks for the your videos. Question- My backyard has natural slope then drops off a hill after 30’ - the contractor is running solid corrugated pipe from downspouts to 20” D box and then fabric wrapped perforated pipe sitting on stone the 30’ to hill edge to a 6”pop up discharge! Is it ok for the perforated to leach that run or should it be solid all the way( no landscaping or trees nearby) I don’t want the yard to cave in! thanks!
here in north western Ont. Canada, if there a problem in sub division, the city up grade the storm sewers', but that only happens in the very old parts of town, all our storm sewers' are 48 inch concrete ,, that sub division would never been built like it has, a easement would be at the top of the hill for a storm sewer.. system, we dont gel back up very often. and we get many 5 to 8 inch storms and 7 to 12 feet of snow melt, putting straw on top to help with freeze, will only last a few years until it rots,, we use a 3 inch close cell foam,, our frost will go down 7 feet, only place a leach field is used is in the country were there is no city stuff.. the red clay here you can wait years for water to leave, it dont go into this rock hard clay, you would make a huge pond... my pig wolos never dry up, it take a year to dry one inch of clay.. these homes were all built way to low,, its like the diy guy that builds a garage and you can see his drive way water going to run right in the over head door but they cant be told a thing.. the problem with the yard your working on, turns to clay at the outer yard edge and was filled with top soil in the yard, making a huge bowl. the whole yard will now turn to mush,, i seen it many times
No. It's just not normal to go back to a work job contractors move one direction and that forward to the next job. A good contractor is in high demand. We are 9 weeks booked out. No time for going backwards. Life as a contractor brother.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN What about home owners. Do they send you any videos when they happy with all the work you did, so you can share them on your RUclips channel?
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN I see. Its a pitty. When I see efficiency and flow rate on some of your vids, I'd really like to see them in acction especially covered vs uncovered french drains.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN Some of youtube popular landscape companies, just shred the grass, leave the gravel with straw on it saying its most efficient way, but sometimes i see that a bit less efficient way preserving the beauty of the yard, could be better. You always leave the area untouched, but some companies leave mud everywhere just drop some straw on it and they explain thats the way. I dont know if the difference is so noticeable, or they are just lazy.
Yellow on the inside, yellow on the outside, are you kidding me, all talk, very little action, lot of overkill, why not drill the holes in the sump before its put in the sump. Not convinced of the efficiency of this system, all pipes going to the same soakaway, Can't fathom out where it is actually going to go???

One of the best videos on RUclips I have learnt a lot from just simple techniques
Thanks Robert for creating this 5 part series. Very informative.
Full bubble !
I would agree the weather is changing a lot and more and more rain is causing contractors to adapt systems

I 100% agree that the drainage problems should have been addressed by the Permit Process before construction then Builder and Inspectors during.
Here's another good video

@Brian
No we do not unless it has history of backing up.
Do you have any recommendations for CT "French Drain " companies??
Oh yeah! Thanks
No shit we know they know what there doing what is this a teaching channel or a bragging channel
Public numbers twice
How do you decide between a leach field and a dry well? Do the soil conditions drive the decision?
Depending on the volume of water. Dry well can't handle to much water Leach Field can handle 10 times the water

"That's boring stuff to us"
Meanwhile I've been getting excited about ordering some high octane and running french drains all over my yard.
How fast does the straw decompose when used in this manner?
It lasts for 20 years if it's put down heavily.
