- Bone marrow is very nutritious and a awesome treat for your fur babies which contains many vitamins and minerals. But most people don't really know how to go about preparing it. This simple and short video explains how to use your chicken and/or turkey bones, and make them into bone meal. Homesteading is about using what you have, or grow to survive, and using as much of it as possible for as little waste as possible.
So if y'all have seen our previous video, The Ultimate Homestead Chicken Stock, • The Ultimate Homestead... , you know where we got these bones from. From there, bone meal is basically made as follows.
Poultry bones from roasted or boiled chicken, fish bones can also be used, but separately.
Place all bones is a larger pot and barely cover with water.
Place lid on pot and bring to a gentle simmer.
Check bones about every hour until soft, adding water as needed.
Once bones are soft and easily break, remove from heat and let cool.
Strain bones and load Vit-a-mixer, (what we use), or blender with 2/3 bones and 1cup of the bone broth.
Pulse until bones are broken down, then puree until smooth. If paste is thin add more bones and repeat. Keep doing this until all bones have been broken down and pureed. Use as little as the liquid broth as possible, as this will allow it to dry faster. Once done with the bone broth, place in mason jar and store in refrigerator. This can be used as a separate treat or as a gravy for the fur babies food.
Now pour thick paste onto cookie sheets which have been covered with silicon baking pads, aluminum foil, or baking paper. Turn oven on to 200*F and place trays in oven and bake leaving door ajar to release moisture. As soon as paste looks like its cracking and shrunk, pull out and break up, then place back into oven to finish drying. About 1-3 hours depending on batch size. You will know when is completely dry as it will crumble in your hand with a gentle squeeze.
Remove from oven, allow to cool completely, place in mason jars. Sprinkle on dog or cats food. You can add some water to make a gravy as a extra treat. - Хобби

Thank you so much! How long was it in the oven? I'm in the process of making these. Yay :))))
Leave in the oven until it’s completely dry you can Check after a few hrs or so!
Can you do this with a slow cooker? Or crock pot? I feel I may be asking a stupid question but I’m going to ask anyway lol
You should be able to ! Never tried it that way!😊
How many degrees should I keep it on?
She did 200 degrees f
Could you give the dogs the meal without dehydrating it?
I dont think it would hurt as long as you blend it good so there are no sharp bones
Thank you so very much - It was informative and I will certainly make bone meal. You do speak a little loud.
Why are you yelling at me?
Thank you for this but why are you yelling? Gave me a headache! Appreciate the information though.
She has to yell because she is all the way up in Alaska. 😂
Why do you YELLLL?
why don't you TURN DOWN the volume?
@@coffeewithacat it's not the volume that's the issue it's the yelling. Yelling sounds like yelling no matter what the volume is.
Calm down voice please
She is so yelling
calm down unnecessary comments please
