I remember i used to go to take photographs by the lake, waiting for the dawn. I would play this song as the sun starts to break through the mist over the lake in the winter. And then the passing of time just seemed like some lie people came up with to sell watches.
The big shift happened when Mikael suddenly decided that the bass was rhythm only and should only follow the drums. I believe this was after he started collaborating with Steven Wilson.
Opeth's guitar riffs/harmonies are some of my favorites of all time/bands ect. Morningrise, Blackwater Park, and D+D each have more badass riffage than most people can dream of.
A person with fat thumbs like myself, I've accidentally pressed dislike when i actually was trying to press like without noticing it . That's the only explanation i can think of
Ironically it is 70's bands like Camel & Nektar that directly influence Opeth's style over Pink Floyd. 'Animals' is my personal favourite Floyd album, the underrated masterpiece in their commercial peak of '73-79
Beautiful!! That's what music is supposed to do, reach inside to the deepest depths of your soul and make you feel love, anger, content, crazy but it doesn't matter which as long as you feel something ...
Truly beautiful song! Keeps amazing me every time I hear it!! Opeth Rules!! :) And I bid farewell to my sweet boyfriend!! :( R.I.P. J.P!! Your time came much to fast!! (1985-2015)
I am awaiting the sunrise Gazing modestly through the coldest morning Once it came, you lied Embracing us over autumn's proud treetops I stand motionless In a parade of falling rain Your voice, I cannot hear As I am falling again Devotion eludes And in sadness, I lumber In my own ashes, I am standing without a soul She wept and whispered "I know" We walked into the night Am I to bid you farewell? Why can't you see that I try? When every tear I shed, is for you
Wauw just heard this song for the first time. I am a huge fan of Opeth later albums because I never got used to the growling (sorry) But what beautiful melancholic music they made 30 years ago, incredible!!!❤️
Here's a fun fact. Johan DeFarfalla was the reason why Opeth was good. He was the bassist on Morningrise and without his technique the band wouldn't have been as popular now. Akerfeldt fired him because Johan wanted more bass driven songs and after My Arms, Your Hearse (Akerfeldt did bass on) the band started to take a turn for the worse. Most people disagree with me but the very few people that understand Morningrise and its importance in the Progressive Melodic Metal genre know what I'm talking about. The bass in this song alone proves it. What perfect way to end an epic album. A song that's 20 minutes, Black Rose Immortal and a great intro makes this album Opeth's best work. There is nothing the band can do to top this. Like Close To The Edge by Yes. There is nothing that can be done. This song right here is the best bass I've ever heard in my life and it's perfect. We remember you - Johan DeFarfalla.....you will NEVER be forgotten!
JoRdOguitarman1 it has its moments. I like the lyrics it's all one story and the song name is the last word of the previous song lyric. Morningrise is their best though imho
+Neurotripsicks ahhhh right, that makes perfect sense, apologies :) as much as I love Martin I have to admit it would have been very interesting to see what direction Opeth would have taken.. what could have been.
This will always be Opeth for me. This is the first song of theirs I heard and although it took me almost ten years to actually give them a try, they turned in to my favourite band. I can't really stand their last two albums, and when I listen to this, it amplifies that disgust even more. Let's see what they put out with Sorceress or whatever it's called but I have 0 expectations. Could it be nostalgia? Is that why this is so good? I don't know, I don't care. All I know is it takes me places their more recent stuff doesn't.
Opeth is Opeth. And Opeth is progressive. They will always be a progressive band, and I think it's good that they make such a wide variety of music seeing as making the same stuff would eventually get burnt out. Though, I can understand you, as I was once in your shoes. Honestly, I never really cared for their newest albums, but truly try giving it another chance with an open mind. You might be surprised. Sorceress will probably be different from what we've heard thus far.
The first two albums contained the most sad, vibrant and blazing guitar harmonies ever. As much as I like their later open chord based style, I miss the good old single or two string guitar harmonies.
The whole album is fucking masterpiece, I've listened all of their albums, while every album is sad and dark, this album I'd choose to play in my last time, In hard times, doesn't matter if you want live or waiting for the death, this albums makes your time peaceful and let you go smoothly.
Top 5 for me. Honestly that says a lot because they don’t have a bad album. My least favorite albums overall are orchid and heritage, but even those albums a good in their own way.
Lyrics with Lyrics 😂...but this is it. And don't forget!,that this is poetry😁 I am awaiting the sunrise Gazing modestly through the coldest morning Once it came, you lied Embracing us over autumn's proud treetops I stand motionless In a parade of falling rain Your voice, I cannot hear As I am falling again Devotion eludes And in sadness, I lumber In my own ashes, I am standing without a soul She wept and whispered "I know" We walked into the night Am I to bid you farewell? Why can't you see that I try? When every tear I shed, is for you
Layne is a great singer but wrong for the song. Now I’ll admit Mikael is a bit pensive in this album and doesn’t have the confidence in his clean vocals, but man oh man especially starting with Still life album and on he has a fantastic, organic and soulful clean voice and many will not disagree with me, one of the most well rounded growls you will ever hear.
@@soakedbearrd I''m not sure if it''s lack of confidence, that does not fit his character at all. This vocal style reminds me of genres outside metal, such as Cohen or Cave and the most even Chet Baker. It's silence and whispering, whereby the listener feels the emotion even stronger.
Still listening! Aug.3 2023 🎤🎸🥁🤘🏻❤️🔥✌🏼😊
This is my favourite song. The hairs on my neck stand up everytime I hear it. It reminds me of a girl who used to love me.
same here brother. your not alone
+Kevin Santiago .. Yeah.
same vibe for me
+Ben McGirr wounded style huh ?
Same...
I remember i used to go to take photographs by the lake, waiting for the dawn. I would play this song as the sun starts to break through the mist over the lake in the winter. And then the passing of time just seemed like some lie people came up with to sell watches.
Wow.man.You could be a great writer
haha, its just Opeth talking out of me
De Farfalla's bass work in this song is just amazing.
demoncleaner80 It's amazing on the whole album
Matthew Etter I agree. I missed his trademark sound after they replaced him with Mendez. Even if I do like Mendez.
+scypher80 Mikael used to compose bass lines before Martin Mendez arrived.
The big shift happened when Mikael suddenly decided that the bass was rhythm only and should only follow the drums. I believe this was after he started collaborating with Steven Wilson.
+Wolven Throne are you implying that Wilson have something to do with Mikael decisions? Go listen to Porcupine Tree and try again.
This song appeared when i was just 5 yearsold. And how come that im still listenning at 27.... This is OPETH
The intro is love at first sight 🥰😍🌹💘
Some of Opeth's best early melodic rock style, especially with the bright twin guitar harmonies.
Opeth's guitar riffs/harmonies are some of my favorites of all time/bands ect. Morningrise, Blackwater Park, and D+D each have more badass riffage than most people can dream of.
Every time I try to sing along to this song, I burst into tears.
Same!
Devotion eludes, and in sadness I lumber.
This song creates an atmosphere unlike other.
+srikanth vemaraju Well said.
What kind of a Person will dislike a masterpiece like this?
A person with fat thumbs like myself, I've accidentally pressed dislike when i actually was trying to press like without noticing it . That's the only explanation i can think of
Some person thinking this is devil's music because there was distortion guitar. The only way I can see someone genuinely hating this
I know one. She's a pure narcissist and the song isn't about her. Ha
someone who has painful memories. I love it anyway.
just started listening to opeth glad i did (im in love)
Same

I bid you farewell my friend... R.I.P J.M (1993-2014)

By far one of the best opeth songs besides face of melinda.
Was just thinking about Face of Melinda.
My two favorite songs from them.
this album and also this song is a signature in the art of music !
+Misth Therion Morningrise is one of the best in not just metal, music history...
why is no one talking about the cover arts throughout the album? a moment of appreciation for the photographs used
It was playing on my head almost ten years ago on my father's funeral.I still get goosebumps hearing it....
Damn sorry, but wow what a song to pick for a funeral, I can see it.
🙏🏻🌹Great taste in music! 🍻✌🏼
Always said the Opeth has a strong Pink Floyd's fluence.
In that case it was Animals.
Their best album in my opinion
Feels like the chords and instruments and everything just go perfectly together. Such perfect harmony... truly beautiful.
Yeah it’s like a duet that compliments.
Truly beautiful song! Keeps amazing me every time I hear it!! Opeth Rules!! :)
And I bid farewell to my sweet boyfriend!! :( R.I.P. J.P!! Your time came much to fast!! (1985-2015)
Wow..Im soo sorry to hear that. But no better song for the occasion.!
Glen Nielsen Thank you for your kindness. :)
And you are totally right! The song fits the occasion very well ! ;)
I am awaiting the sunrise
Gazing modestly through the coldest morning
Once it came, you lied
Embracing us over autumn's proud treetops

Life can be the biggest mystery and the simplest puzzle at the same time.
7.05 is the best part of this song 😭😭😭😭
Im Speachless .. Magic .. Amazing ..

+saskia kroonsberg In a lot of their older albums are beautifull acoustic songs
+Job Muiles thanks I will check them out 🙏🏽

Neurotripsicks Still think MAYH is better.

Morningrise is their best though imho
+Neurotripsicks although I have to agree.. Johan is still alive and well, dude :L
Jamie Cooke RIP as in no longer playing bass. I know he's alive and he doesn't even make music anymore. Shame.
+Neurotripsicks ahhhh right, that makes perfect sense, apologies :)

bidding you farewell Vinne Paul
Morningrise is on my top 3 Opeth albums!
Top 5 for me. Honestly that says a lot because they don’t have a bad album. My least favorite albums overall are orchid and heritage, but even those albums a good in their own way.

Really great. Why do I get the feeling, though, that this would be so much better with a vocalist like, say, the dude from Alice In Chains?
