Yea! As someone sitting with some damage stretched or dry detangling with AFTER a hot oil treatment works the best. I continually moisturize on stretched hair everyday so it’s not even really dry per say. Using conditioner with bad ends is not the best idea for me. Transitioning gradually ❤️

@@AfrikanHairGod I think I used the word transitioning wrong. My hair is fully natural; my ends up to the middle of my length is just extremely thin and the curl pattern is even off. This was due to dryness and breakage which I’ve reversed so the new hair is very thick now. There are no natural hairstylists in my area so I’m just cutting my ends off gradually in big chunks. Do you think there’s a better way to handle the situation?
Yes we have 3 girls and I braid them and myself so ain't no way I'm doing this every week for 3 girls and myself😂😂 I just braided everybody's hair this past week and it's going stay up till Christmas I'll wash it with them braids in there idc idc 🤣🤣
Felt that lmao. My daughter is mix and her father is black. She is a mix of 3C and 4A texture. Shes also a active toddler at age 17 month. I keep her braids in for 3-4 days now a days. Works wonder beside detangle and deep clean only in need after it been in braids. I put indian herb from magic blue between her hair parts as it prone to driness and itch as she got eczma if i dont put needed hair oil nor some type of light grease. She also loves have beads so thats what i also use on her end of her braids these days.
Back in 2005, I grew my hair down to my waist with V05 shampoo and conditioner from Dollar Tree. Yes, the one dollar shampoo and conditioner did wonders for my hair.
*I realise that I have to shampoo at least once a week because I live in an extremely hot and humid industrial city and my kitchen is extremely hot so, by the time I finish cooking (which I do everyday), my scalp is alredy soaked or itchy to the extent that I scratch till it's sore!*

I wash/clarify my hair every 3 to 4 weeks because I use grease (properly), albeit, I don't do much to accumulate sweat or dirt, and I save coins because I only use grease when I wash to seal in moisture. Thank you for clearing up that water alone drys out your hair. When i would try to refresh my hair with water I never understood why my hair would dry out so bad. I just need to follow the water with a little bit of oil. I’ve been using this aloe Vera refresher spray and my hair has retained moisture between washes but i get a bit of build up. I cant go longer than 2weeks without washing my hair but i can deal with that! 😊
This is the type of hairstylist that I must have ! I once had someone who took care of my hair but she went back to her country, she grew my hair from neck length to mid back within 3 years and what he's saying was basically her concept !! Now since I've been working with others they've cut my hair so much its barely off my shoulders and I'm done with the YOU NEED A TRIM statements ! So this past year I've been taking care of it myself and see growth again but shoulder pain causes me to want to seek a hair stylist again...I NEED THAT GUY AND I'M GOING TO FIND HIM NOW THAT I SEE HE'S ACTUALLY IN ATLANTA !!!
I am anti-heat styling as well for my hair. Some can pull off amazing styles with heat. However, I am always worried about heat damage and the best way to avoid it is to just leave it alone.

Really good info. Again, I like your approach because you make room for people to do what is needed for their hair. I do like steaming but only once a month under the care of a professional. So, when it happened it was truly humbling Besides as a little girl i didnt use grease or braid my hair. But NOW i like me some hair butter a good 2 braids. By Wetting the hair and braid helped tremendously but that damn hair butter sure helps certainly retain moisturizer.

100% agree with you! I literally tell all my clients these things. Im a braider (not licensed but did go to barber college). I will say for me PERSONALLY (not recommending) I absolutely loved the steamer for my locs and I did with a light application of my oil blend... kind of my make shift hot oil treatment. So I did a double NO 😂 It kept my locs fluffy so i loved it. I did it every other month or 2 (like 4 or 5 times in a year). I dont think anyone should sit under the steamer for longer than 5 mins. Although I use a steamer I DO NOT recommend to any of my clients... its too risky.

I don't really understand why people are against the term protein sensitivity. I'm someone who has confirmed over and over that using even what would be considered minimal protein containing products just once a month is too much for my hair. I'm working out how frequently I need to use the stuff, but I don't think there's a problem with using the term protein sensitive to describe my hair. I said I'm sensitive, not allergic!
What is it that you are using? And what does "too much for my hair" mean? If you really want to break this down I need to understand what you are doing and what's actually happening to your hair. Sometimes what is"perceived" is the result of ignorance of the science and reality of what's actually happening. The issue with protein sensitivity is that it's not recognized in the science of cosmetology. It's conjecture that was created here in the natural hair community. With all the study and understanding of hair, all of a sudden, ONLY Black natural hair is subjected to being sensitive to something that strengthens and fortifies the structure of hair. It logically doesn't make sense unless it's improperly implemented.
@@AfrikanHairGod I used to use the Aphogee 2min reconstructer once a month (which was how often I washed my hair at the time) until I ran out and realised my hair was much more 'manageable' and my ends weren't constantly snapping off. So I switched to just using the aphogee pro vitamin spray but noticed that using that as my main leave in eventually lead to the same brittleness and dryness. I've also trialed the As I Am gro yogurt which looked to me like it contained less proteins overall. However, using that causes this instant crispiness as soon as I apply it to wet hair. I also got the same effect on a separate occasion when I tried a conditioner with more aloe vera in it than water. Currently I'm considering if it's a weight issue but heavy products build up on my hair very quickly, so I'm concerned that heavy proteins would do the same thing. Fwiw, I've started washing my hair every two weeks with sulfate containing shampoos and that also seems to help with making the hair easier to work with. Don't know if that's relevant. Tbh, I'm tired of spending money on products I then have to try to donate to my family, so I'm all ears for ideas. Eta: I should probably specify that I used to blow dry monthly as well, which was why I felt like I needed a protein treatment at all. I do it less often now, but probably still once every other month on average.

@@TheCrystalChaplin so it's hard to pinpoint your issue to one thing. It sounds like you really didn't have a solid routine or proper cleansing cycle. I also don't recommend people use the 2 min reconstructor unless there's a specific need for it... But again, this goes back to what I said about abusing protein and not understanding it. You can definitely use to much especially if you don't need it and especially if you aren't cleansing properly. The leave in not so much because it's just typical but the conditioning treatment is just that, it's a treatment. It's only applicable in certain circumstances.
My hair and scalp are the true rebels....It agrees with about half of what you said and then it agrees with 25% of what the natural community says and then the other 25% it does whatever the hell it wants. Lol! Now you understand why I, my stylist, my trichologists and my doctor be confused. lol! I understand my hair now that sometimes it's just going to ignore all the care recommendations and just do whatever...I'm autistic and I don't have the spoons to battle my hair and scalp every day. As long as it's not excessively tangled, I got some edges and it's not falling out in giant patches and my scalp isn't inflamed, I'm good. I can wear a natural wig or extensions or hair pieces if I want longer, fuller, looser textured hair. The end. lol!
I live in an arid climate. My hair needs lots of water. I rinse my hair with water and condition at least every other day. My hair thrives on water living in Vegas. I wash. And deep condition once a week.
The girls are shampooing every week?? Hecky nah LOL. My mom did me once a month as a kid. I did bi-weekly for maybe a year but I’m proudly back to once a month, ain’t nobody got time for all that, unnecessary wetness and stuff- wasting water🤣

Hot oil treatments appear to do amazing things to my natural hair- especially thicker oils. More moisture, glossier and just appears stronger🤷🏿♀️

I also don't recommend people use the 2 min reconstructor unless there's a specific need for it... But again, this goes back to what I said about abusing protein and not understanding it. You can definitely use to much especially if you don't need it and especially if you aren't cleansing properly. The leave in not so much because it's just typical but the conditioning treatment is just that, it's a treatment. It's only applicable in certain circumstances.
My hair and scalp are the true rebels....It agrees with about half of what you said and then it agrees with 25% of what the natural community says and then the other 25% it does whatever the hell it wants. Lol! Now you understand why I, my stylist, my trichologists and my doctor be confused. lol! I understand my hair now that sometimes it's just going to ignore all the care recommendations and just do whatever...I'm autistic and I don't have the spoons to battle my hair and scalp every day. As long as it's not excessively tangled, I got some edges and it's not falling out in giant patches and my scalp isn't inflamed, I'm good. I can wear a natural wig or extensions or hair pieces if I want longer, fuller, looser textured hair. The end. lol!

I live in an arid climate. My hair needs lots of water. I rinse my hair with water and condition at least every other day. My hair thrives on water living in Vegas. I wash. And deep condition once a week.
