I was going to buy a new clamp when my everlast welder arrived but it came with a really good quality clamp which was a nice surprise. A bad clamp is a nightmare.

Good Video, I will add one more thing as it may help people new to welding. If you are as mentioned in the video having problems obtaining a good weld and you are on your own, you can't see the ground and the weld at the same time. In this case carefully check to see if the ground clamp is Hot, if it is then there is a high resistance, heat that should go to the weld is being lost at the ground. I say carefully because the clamp can become so hot as to give a serious burn. Cheers from John.

How do you fix that problem?

@@LPJMagicmusic bad clamp as in corroded or just low quality, broken clamp, clamp that is not properly secured or the spring is weak, dirty contact point where clamp meets the work piece, frayed cable, etc

I've got to get one of those clamps for my everlast welder. I partially cut the lead with an angle grinder last year so good a time as any to change it out.

I think that gold clamp is suppose too come with a copper sleeve that slips over the bare wire so the bolt can crush it into the wire or else the wire will spread out and fray too much without it.

I sell those. It has a angled metal plate under the bolt that squeezes down onto the wire to secure it. You might see it if you look close at the video when he highlights it.. 👍

Clean the contact surfaces of dirty clamp with wire wheel for better conductivity

Hey I was wondering what clamp do you think would be better for a Century (Lincoln) FC90 90amp flux core welder? Is the solid all copper clamp over kill.

E K copper is the best conductor. So buy it. I need to get one too for my mig welder that just has the cheap battery booster type clamp on it. Also swap out the cheap ground cable to a longer one with a #6 wire.

It’s actually copper alloy it’s not brass

my welder is 300amps. can i use a 500amps clamp and a 500amps electrode holder to it? tnx

Yes. You can always use leads, clamps and holders with a higher amperage rating than your machine, but not vice versa. My welding teacher told us in class that some guy got injured really bad because he used automotive jumper cables to weld with.
