- This sermon by Alistair Begg concerns the comments Jesus made about the poor widow who put her small amount of money into the temple offering, in comparison to the vast amount of money wealthy people put in.
Mormons get this wrong too. This story lesson of Jesus is not about a righteousness of the woman, who should not have given her mites, but it's an expose on the avarice (insatiable greed) of the religious leaders of the day who pressured even the poor to give to them money they could not afford to give.

Thank You, Alistair. My mother did not teach me much. However, she would say to me " when you give, give of yourself so that the season of giving may be yours and not your inheritors. Giving such a privilege and honor, Edward Sydney Australia.
I use to think of these verses in the same manner as it is presented here and I can still see viability in this line of thought. However, just before Jesus's statement about the widow he accuse the religious people of devouring widows houses ( this could be said of a lot of tv preachers today) and after words he says that not one stone will be left on top of the other of the temple.
A lot to learn from this passage!
For me, one of the biggest issues is our understanding of the Gospel. When I left being a paramedic to be in ministry, I didn’t realize how many people misunderstand how the Bible applies to our lives! That’s why I have centered my channel on helping people understand the Bible in a practical, relevant way that keeps the true Gospel at the heart of every teaching.
I am going through the book of Mark in my preaching - recently preached through this passage.
In context of the religious hypocrisy and theft of which the preceding verses speak, I see Jesus rebuking the religious system in place which demands giving for salvation. I do not see Jesus commending the widow.
i would like to commend this teaching preaching, full of insight and spiritual truth that caters to the very need of spiritual growth for seekers of truth.
