  • The story of the Widow's Mite (Mark 12:41-44) is popular among the stories of the Gospels, but it is more than a simple story of Love and Generosity. When read beside the story of Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath (I Kings 17:10-16) it takes on a meaning beyond a simple act of "giving".
Fr. Bill discusses both stories together and discusses the deeper meaning behind the generosity of both widows.

I give what little I can. Because I feel it is a need, because there is always someone worse off than me.

3 summers ago I found a coin like this in an old camper. I’m honestly surprised at the history behind this coin. I’m thinking this has happened for a reason. It was in a little leather pouch. If anyone wants to help me figure this out or talk about it I would be grateful

Beautiful message but one thing Jesus never said to the disciples was "do as she does also" I don't think He praised her but He saw her condition of being poor and a widow which all through the Torah, Widows, fatherless and others was to be taken care of and helped but, they was robbing them. I am not saying she was wrong but the institution was corrupt and if you read the word "and" which is a Greek conjunction in Mark 12:41 which verses before the widows mite telling us what type of institution it was meaning BEWARE. To me Jesus was telling them what type of institution it was and what type of leaders they were and then show how they failed in taken care of this widow's and the poor which the Torah was very specific and the tithe played a part in this also. Just a thought. God bless

Thank you for that. I believe you are right. I just saw a shirt of John macarthur speaking in this and he basically says the same as you. I always understood it differently so I came to get a better understanding. Crazy how things can be so misunderstood
