    Thanks for the update ,last time I was out about a month ago it was shocking to see what is transpiring. It is part of the reason beach collecting is as fun as it is - its always changing, we'll see what happens and feel fortunate we can experience it. Thanks again

      No problem, I feel fortunate as well. I just wouldn't expect it to change so drastically so quickly.

    Last I went to Damon Point was in Jan 2023 where I was able to walk all the way to the end of the point. I heard on an online rockhounding group that a massive king tide finally took out access to the last third of it barely a month after I was there, and the point was much shorter now. It's sad and it's made me spend more of my time looking in other locations instead.

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  Год назад +2

      Yeah that's unfortunately the same realization I made, it's so much shorter now.

      @@DutchmansAgates it's a humble reminder that nature gives and nature takes away. This year the Oregon coasts have been very bountiful with agates when I've gone beachcombing.

    It's sad to see the point gone, I walked Damon point for 3 1/2 years huntingvagates and other cool stuff.
    The ocean is rising soon itvwill all be gone

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  Год назад +1

      Yeah same for me as well, it's hard to say how it'll change. I'd like to think if land gets swallowed up in one spot, more land will arise elsewhere. Maybe I'm being too optimistic though.

      If you have a glass of water filled with ice and you leave it and all the ice melts does it over flow out of the glass? No it does not. Same deal with the earth. If the ocean front property is disappearing then why are banks still loaning on property? global warming is part of the elite agenda to round up people into smart cites so they can be controlled. Think for yourself and learn to see what's right in front of you.

    What a bummer about the Point. I liked the rocks you found, But I can see it being depressing for you and others. Well, thanks for sharing, and I read in a comment you will be making more videos soon!! Great!!! Have a Super Week!!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼

      Yeah it's sad for sure, it seems like there won't be much left in a few years at this rate. I'm hoping to release a video once a week for the next couple weeks! See how it goes. Thank you for watching and have a great week as well!😃

      @@DutchmansAgates I got u notified, so helpfully it works ! I had forgotten your name!! I’ll photo it so I do find ya!! I am bummed what is happening there cuz I seriously was thinking of a trip out there in this next year and had wanted that spot for one of the locations. About 30 years ago, my two daughters and I spent atleast one to two weeks for 4 years out in Washington and northern Oregon with my cousin who had kids close to my kids ages! Man, I wish then I was into rocks!! But NOT!!!
      Ok - see you in a week!!! Bye Bye!! Kim 😁

      @@DutchmansAgates If you look at the historical satellite data on google earth pro you can see a time not too long ago when the Long Beach didn’t exist. Over time it spindled out into the bay essentially emerging from the larger land mass.
      I have a feeling that what we’re seeing is part of a natural cycle. I don’t think Damon will ever disappear entirely but we’ll have to see what it looks like when it finds an equilibrium, which I kind of feel like is already happening but I’ll have to keep praying that that’s true 🙏

      @@relaxingsounds5469 That's very interesting, thank you for sharing!
      It seems like the "point" of Damon point is being eroded away, I don't think the larger land mass part of it will go away either.
      It might turn into an island though, as the ocean already moves over from one side to the other in the winter months when you first get to the beach, at high tide.
      As you said, we'll have to see where it finds its equilibrium.

      @@DutchmansAgates No worries! Regarding the new tip, I’ve been surfing/observing it closely with my other surfer friends ever since the initial breach happened last fall. For a while changes were fast and furious but now it seems like the tip has essentially stabilized for the most part. The waves that are produced out there are still of very high quality when the conditions are right. There’s also a ton of nice gravel out there and I find agates pretty much every time I walk there/back.
      Regarding the connective sandbar (known as “locals” or the “locals sandbar” by the OS surf crew), it is definitely washing over during king tides more frequently than years past but even that used to happen as of a few years ago before the main breach at the tip.
      I don’t think it will breach in the same way as what we saw happen at the old outer beach. One of the reasons I think this is because the wave action at the current (and old tip pre breach) is significantly more intense than what we ever see at the locals sand bar. Pre outer breach the wave action was actually extremely intense at times with all of the energy essentially unloading right on the shore which I think is what ultimately ripped it apart.
      Another factor is how shallow it is on the other side of the locals sand bar (bay side). If you look now, it does wash over more, but the sand is essentially just migrating further into the bay. If you look at historical satellite images you can actually see that the whole sandbar has been migrating to the northwest for years now.
      All that to say that I don’t think it’ll turn into an island anytime soon, if ever but obviously the ocean will make that call for us…
      Next time you’re out if you see a big group of surfers that’ll probably be us, especially if you see a few bodysurfers in the group. Happy rock hunting!

  • @relaxingsounds5469

    I would think that Damon would be an agate hunting paradise now with the amount of gravel that’s piling up at Catala point and southward towards the tip.
    I surf there almost daily and it’s been a big adjustment for sure, but the beach is still long and bringing plenty of beautiful waves. We’ll just have to see what happens and let nature do its thing.

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah we'll have to see what it looks like when the dust settles. I still enjoy going out there, it's beautiful and finding agates still seems to be decent.
      Maybe my video's will act like somewhat of a time lapse as time goes on. 🤷
