Fact 2: In the Volume 7 Crew Commentary, it's stated that Ironwood returning the Relic of Knowledge to Ruby's Group was his greatest showing of trust. Fact 3: The writers have stated that this episode was really tricky to write because it was getting close to an exposition dump. Fact 5: Connor Pickens joked that he thought that Ironwood should propose to Oscar when he was kneeling. Fact 6: The writers commented on how positively Penny stated "it will be just like Beacon again" when she got destroyed there in Volume 3. Fact 7: The commentary for this episode was recorded on Kerry Shawcross's birthday.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Yeah, she was thinking about having her friends around her and getting to work with them. Meanwhile we in the FNDM collectively felt our graves being danced on.

Hugs are a Schnee love language for me. Don't expect any from Jacques though, I don't even know if he knows what love is. But between our two sisters here, it is a way of reassuring each other, of saying that they love each other and that they are also proud of each other. We were able to see it in volume 3 when Winter gave one to Weiss and now it's Weiss who returns it to her, and seeing how Weiss has grown since volume 3, she understands the message behind it even better.
I'd say telling the people about Salem would possibly allow Remnant to be united against a common enemy, and unification was an important stipulation in order for the Brother Gods to NOT destroy the planet, but Ironwood doesn't know about any of that aspect of Ozpin's backstory. So i think he's probably approaching this from the perspective that, if the people know about Salem, Ironwood doesn't have to keep working in secrecy and lying to the population about what they're doing and why and therefore they will hate him less for imposing martial law or something. I get it, but it still seems like an unnecessary risk given the situation...
You have to understand what Ruby is doing, lying to General Ironwood. They already had a traitorous Headmaster in the form of Leonardo Lionheart. And with the state that Mantle is in over Atlas, she rather not take the chance of telling the whole truth now, lest the General turns on our group.
Not to mention when they found out Yang kept screaming, Qrow punched Ozpin (and by extension Oscar) into a tree, and Jaune pinned him to a wall. She now knows first hand how people will react when you tell them the big bad is unkillable.
Technicly speaking Ruby isn't lying. She is just withholding some information, that Ironwood never asked about. (Ozpin did tell them that all questions were used up, she just didn't volunteer the information that they found out that Ozpin was a big liar)
@@eliudesantos3237 Spoilers You could argue that they should have just kept the secret, considering the only reason he freaks out in the end is because they told him, trust is a risk after all, but yes it doesn’t end well
An interesting thing to keep in mind for the volume: it's never stated in the show but the shows creators explained Ironwood's semblance and it's very interesting. It's a more passive semblance like Qrow's misfortune but it's an ability to strengthen his resolve, making it easier to make tough decisions and hyper-focus on things. However, it does make him more uncompromising once he comes up with an idea, I like to think of his semblance as super stubbornness.
I love this volume a lot, and the uncertainty of what to believe, there even was a theory that ironwood placed a bug on Qrow during the hug to spy on them lol, man I can’t wait for you guys to watch the rest
This episode really highlights why Ozpin didnt always share everything with everyone. It wasn't that long ago that team RWBY was reprimanding Oz for his omissions and lies and general lack of trust, only to suddenly feel the need to do the very same thing to their allies
Well. Ruby felt that. And everyone sorta followed. Though yang having a history of shit being kept from her is right to be that one who says "this isnt right. We need to address this sooner rather than later."
Winter has always been one of my favorite characters, but the next few volumes just solidify that. Y'all are getting into my absolute favorite part of Rwby now, I can't wait to see what you think of it!
"You stole an Atlas airship? What were you thinking?" "Well you know that deranged elderly Specialist you sent to Argus so you wouldn't have to deal with her? Well she deluded herself into thinking that she decided what is and isn't important enough to 'bother' communicating with Atlas. And since Ozpin's little secret cabal never set up any kind of shared security access to bypass such self important headasses, it was either steal an airship or never get the Relic of Knowledge here at all."
there's an odd saying....a bad plan is better than no plan....the problem is his Paranoid and relying on Ozma's guidance shows he is trying but a bit much
Loved the reaction, as always! This episode was a satisfying resolution to how Chapter 1 left off, while laying the groundwork for a lot more to come. Even though we don't get any fights, it's nice to get more Penny and Winter. (Winter best girl!)
We get a sense of how ironwood reacts to things right from volume 2 They knew something was going to happen at beacon but wasn't sure where from or what was going to happen and what does ironwood do? Any threat he brings his entire military force to confront the problem. He overreacts and asks for trust but is unwilling to give it unless it benefits him in some way or its under his terms. A dangerous combination. Trust is a risk but its also a two way street you can't have someone trust someone when that person only trusts them to a certain point I think Ruby was wise to keep certain facts from ironwood until they get a better sense of what he is like now and how he handles the situation in atlas and mantle. Afterall they have only just arrived in atlas better to get a feel for the situation before making rash action
Penny of all people saying “it will be just like beacon again” is the most ominous stuff I’ve ever heard And Ace Ops are pronounced same as Aesop’s as in Aesop’s fables. They are all based on those.

This and another comment pointed out the military occupation angle of Ironwood's plan, and i can't believe i've re-watched this show countless times and never thought of it before now.
