    There is really a big difference between a professor teaching and a simple player teaching. Give a big thumb up praise for professor Boyd.👍👍👍

    Well, on a scale of 1 to 12, this was a definite 12. In black and white terms, a simply fantastic lesson. Thanks so much.

    Quite unbelievable that you are giving away these quality lectures for free when I've seen most expert tutors getting paid hundreds of dollars for only just an hour of learning session. I know this is not the same but still. BIG RESPECT!

    Love your channel. I have large hands with "non-slim-ish" fingers. Thus, I often have some problems getting between black keys easily while playing chromatic scales. No gene therapy yet available to slim my fingers. Any suggestions? Thank you Michael

      @ThePianoProfKateBoyd  5 месяцев назад

      This is not an uncommon problem. You will need to play in the area outside of the black keys which will require moving "in" and "out" of the keys, toward and away from the fallboard. I talk about that motion in this video - hope it's helpful: ruclips.net/video/drMQ9NKFXGc/видео.html

    i haven't decided yet if using thumb/middle or thumb/index combo when doing the chromatic scale....i was watching Vladimir Horowitz and i could swear he was using the thumb and index on his chromatic scale....he was playing really fast so i could be mistaken

      Good point! Ultimately, it depends on the context - sometimes 1-3 is a better choice and sometimes you're going to want to use your index finger. Good luck!

    In finger in #1 technique why is there finger 4 in it? Is that a typo error? Please let me know. Thanks and I really enjoy all of your videos. They are very informative.

      4 is included here above the note because that note is the top of the scale. Using 4 at the top can be acceptable to avoid any unneeded additional thumb cross, since a thumb cross isn't needed at the top of the scale. Glad these videos have been helpful! 😊
