I hate office jobs, that is why I am working in transport industry for 5 years now, was courier contractor for 3 years now join a large transport business as company driver, love driving on the road and meeting people everyday, lots of freedom if you can sort out you day in the morning.
I lost my job as a car detailer last week been looking at courier driver but I can’t read and write Little bit slow is it an easy job what about the training ?

What’s your usual start and finish time? Looking at joining Toll as a van courier driver. Great job with the video. Looks like enjoyable work being out for most of the day
Hours varies depending on your run (delivery area). Starts anywhere between 6AM-8AM and finishes between 4:30PM-6PM. It's a perfect job if you like driving and meet people 🙂

I worked in transport here in Australia from around 1988 to 2015 with a six year break to work in Infotech in the late 90s. Nothing has really changed other than scanning and tracking technology is better. I worked for Coles a few years ago delivering groceries and they use the same system as Toll does (they used to contract Toll for home delivery). Unfortunately, their GPS mapping system was designed for heavy vehicles, not small, 2-tonne fridge vans, so it was easier to use Google Maps with voice recognition to get deliveries done efficiently, even though company policy banned the use of google maps. You could empathise with me when the company map tells you to drive a 4km loop to enter a street from the opposite end because 'heavy vehicles' can't enter from the end you're at, but the house you're delivering to is 200 metres down that street.
You're right not much has changed. Toll doesn't give vans a gps tracking device. I can relate with your experience. Thanks for sharing.

How do you sort parcels in the van? Which parcel is placed where, how do you find it when at client location.

I separate my parcels by suburbs and then by streets. Sort them in tubs. Arrange the tubs according to your planned route.

Make sure you're fit. This job is sedentary but also physical at the same time. Choose your vehicle wisely according to your height. You hop on and off alot and if your vehicle is too high, your knee and ankle will pay the price after a while.

How many parcels do you have to typically fulfill? How do you know how to find each parcel efficiently
Number of parcels varies everyday.. around 120 to 150 typically. Everyone works differently, for me, after collecting all my parcels, I plan my day's route then arrange the parcels accordingly.

@@bruvybruv8477 not really.. once you're familiar with your delivery area, you kinda know most of the street names so you can arrange the parcels accordingly. Otherwise, google maps?

Twice. In the morning to collect parcels from depot and then at the end of the day to drop off parcels collected from customers, to be sorted and sent to their destinations.

Used to be a dockhand at toll hbt, monotonous it was.

Call the ops supervisor on duty and they will organise a driver to do your run.

Sorry, it's because I don't have clearance to go to the air site. So I can't show that part unfortunatelly. Also, my shift does not start early enough to show when the cage arrives at the depot.

sorry my english is not very good, i have sent 1 parcel to australia, it has been delivered successfully but the recipient said not received. But the signatures have their names, so is there anyone else who can sign them for them? and wrongly sent like that, can the parcel be found again? Thank you
You need to contact the logistic company that delivered your parcel. If your parcel has 'signature required' label, the courier would at least get the recipient's name. If the parcel has 'authority to leave' then the courier has to take a photo of where they left the parcel.

How many delivery you do in a single day and how much per parcel they pay ?
Number of deliveries really depends on your assigned area. Rate wise, depends on your contract. Some are paid per parcel, some by the hour.

Why do your couriers never bother even attempting delivery, and always force you to go pick it up at a depot? There’s a reason Toll has a bad reputation and widespread low reviews.
I think some of the drivers are very bad for knocking on door and wait, some are not, but I think better get the package send to your work place? If not maybe find a safe place for courier can leave the package
The ones getting paid per parcel probably do a rush job to earn money faster.
Other times, you need to look at your situation from the outside.
Does your doorbell work? Do you have locked gates, or exposed areas where there is no suitable place to leave etc
Did you specify to leave, or does your seller require signature
IF TOLL IS THE BEST HATE TO SEE HOW THE REST OPERATE.

Questions, though it is a little bit late, 2 years behind.
1. Is that your van and do you pay for everything related to it.
2. How many hours a day do you work, how many days a week, how many hours a week.
3. How much do you earn before expenses, ruffffffly per day, pre expenses.
I currently do UBER ruffffly 14-20hrs per week and am just looking at other options, even Jims Lawn mowing as an option for me.

Awesome video mate well presented. With all them many parcels how do you organise your route specially that if it’s areas your not familiar with.
Most drivers at TOLL usually have a set run, so you do the same area everyday. You'll get the hang of it after a week or two.

How much work experience does one need to join TOLL? What was your previous work experience?
Previous experience is not essential, as long as you have a valid driver's license. I was in hospitality industry before TOLL.

Hi, yes to both questions and reverse camera is part of safety requirement.
Is this your own vehicle or company's ?? If yours then how much one has to spend to get this job??
I'm a SubContractor so I have to provide my own vehicle with at least 1ton capacity. You'll also need to have insurance cover for your goods in transit, vehicle insurance and public liabilty.

Hi Mate. I'm not aware of part time drivers here. The only part timer I know are dock hands.

Every company is different. But usually 9-12 hours.

I use a broker called David J. Still for public liability and marine insurance

Hi.. thanks for watching. Yes you will be trained, usually shadowing one of the drivers for a few days. As for choosing hours, you don't get to choose. Sometimes when there are backlog of parcels, you will be offered to work on the weekend.

How much do you roughly earn a week
Depends on how many hours you work. Toll pays hourly but that may change in the near future.
