I'll never understand why an older dude with tens of millions of dollars can't just retire on top, rather than subject himself to regular abuse from the public and allow a probable-idiot stranger to upset him to that degree. How fucking desperate and needy are these people? How delicate is your ego that you require constant approval from faceless mobs of strangers? I'll never understand it
Patrice had an incredible way of articulating abstract thought. He could describe feelings that you feel subconsciously and would never know how to express them.
He's amusing but I don't think he's ever demonstrated a facility for abstract thought, if, say, we agree that high-school maths, chemistry and philosophy is the lower foothills of abstract thought
“Who told you to go on Letterman? I didn’t tell you to go on Letterman! “Well I’m sorry Jackie I wanted to apologize to the negroes on Letterman.” “I’ll tell you what this is, Cosmo, this is a public display of humiliation! It’s outrageous, egregious, preposterous!!!”
You don't diminish the power of a word by telling certain people that they aren't allowed to say it. You actually increase the power of that word when spoken by the undesirables.
100% true. The best way to depower the word is to not react to it, not make it taboo. If a racist uses the word and people just laugh at them, they'll soon realize the words has no effect.
This was one of the best O&A shows. Michael Richards didn't know how to handle a heckler. Sam Kinison would kill you live, Louis CK will kill you onstage. A lot of comics devise a way to shut the audience up. Louis Ck tells them to shut up or he reminds everyone of their mortality and that some of them will die soon. Then he apologizes for telling you that as he starts his show. It was a hump Michael Richards needed to get over. Walk off stage would have been better. Live to try another day. Big life lesson: Don't let people get you upset. Not on the road or anywhere. Even if someone is driving wrong, if you remain passive, your heart rate and life will not feel the pain. If you engage and could hurt you body by getting upset. Your body secretes cortisol and that is damaging like doing cocaine with no high. And in the worst case scenario, you could die from a lapse of judgement in a car or just burn your career in 5 minutes time. Take it easy man... Take it easy..
I'm not a comic, but I think the rules of improv were responsible for the Richards incident. If you're doing standup and get heckled, I imagine you go into a kind of improv mode where you make a decision and commit to it. I think it's pretty clear Richards isn't anymore racist than any one else. His only crime was that the comedic decision he made on stage wasn't funny, but the rules of improv forced him to commit. So what you end up with is a comic desperately trying to salvage a bit and failing.
hisvorpalsword have you seen the video or jus heard people talk about it? cuz he was pissed,nd yelped that shit out loudly&angrily several times,,,,,wait have you not seen norton talk about it?
Dan Blunt I wouldn't say hatred. Would say more along the lines of extreme frustration to ignorance and Mooney not listening to someone who makes very good counter points. Almost every time one of the guys were talking he cut them off non-stop and I can't stand that shit, even when Op, Anth and Jim do it, but they usually will do this when they are hottly debating an idiot.
Jim Norton is the guy you have to hang out with, who thinks he's above everyone at the table and always starts a conversation like "I'm not racist or anything BUT....."
The way he apologized for this was so idiotic. The more he talked about it he really made it sound like he was full of anger and actually let his true racism slip out. He should have just been saying that he was on a comedy stage and in the heat of the moment he made some offensive jokes about his heckler; I think this is the simple truth about the situation too but for some reason he was under so much pressure he just started saying dumb shit. I feel like this set the stage for cancel culture, they saw this entire situation as a good example of how to deal with people who say the "wrong" things.
That apology was the fucking worst. Jesus. Just man up and say 'hey I fucked up, things got out of hand and I didn't mean for it to go that direction' then offer to take those guys who walked out to dinner or something.
Crazy how time has changed. In todays time, the repercussions are far worse. This show was ahead of its time because it stood for everything society is trying to dismantle nowadays. Some of us may not want another O&A but we desperately need another O&A. Only time will tell. It’s a damn shame how much we have not progressed, in terms of free speech.
And now Jimmy is completely neutered on his satellite show with Sam. The price of selling out. I agree with their rant on this, but their inability to understand why and how they wouldn’t be able to get away with it is hilarious. There’s absolutely no way they would’ve skated if they had said the word on terrestrial. There’s no way. Not even back then. It shouldn’t be that way, but the way they didn’t recognize it was very funny. Years later we would find out that Opie didn’t realize the consequences of filming someone in the bathroom and Anthony should have but didn’t recognize the consequences of using the word on Twitter in anger even if it was spelled with symbols. The world passed them by. And it’s a shame, because I prefer their version of the world where people can just say whatever they want. They were right about what was coming and still didn’t fully understand it. Very interesting to hear this clip now.
Michael Richards should have taken that mop he had in the Weird Al film UHF and done his best Donatello impression in that laugh factory. Then introduce it to Jerry Sinfilled
04:09:00 I had completely forgotten about that substituting the 'n word' for 'African American' in iconic movies scenes bit Danny and Steve did. I laughed at the Full Metal Jacket and True Romance ones.
Kramer fucked up, he should have just come out straight away and said 'look, i was angry, I was trying to be mean so I used a bad word, its just a word, you should get over it.' instead of this grovelling and apologising that got him nowhere. i dont agree with racism but he let them turn this into an intervention, its so crap and insincere, he should have just said 'i know i shouldnt have said it, but its not a big deal.'

No, the best is Patrice when he was like :"Koons Jerry!..." Cracks me up everytime I hear it.
@3:49:01 may be the funniest listener-submitted song in O&A history
Opie is telling the bestest jokes, Jim is playing devil's advocate but not really and Ant is furious he can't be openly racist. God I miss this show.
I'll never understand it
I hadn't heard that Letterman segment since it aired. I never realized how cringe it was
"I never watched Seinfeld"
-Tyron Woodley
Patrice had an incredible way of articulating abstract thought.
He could describe feelings that you feel subconsciously and would never know how to express them.
Very true.
You stink
He knows how to talk about the motivations behind behavior, or the underneath stuff, rather than just talking about the thing itself.
I'm glad you're enlightened because anyone who can't do that, can't think for themselves, is easy to manipulate.
He's amusing but I don't think he's ever demonstrated a facility for abstract thought, if, say, we agree that high-school maths, chemistry and philosophy is the lower foothills of abstract thought
Ant's idea of having Jackie Chiles speak for him would actually work. That's a fantastic idea.
"Your race, Is my case"
“Who told you to go on Letterman? I didn’t tell you to go on Letterman!
“Well I’m sorry Jackie I wanted to apologize to the negroes on Letterman.”
“I’ll tell you what this is, Cosmo, this is a public display of humiliation! It’s outrageous, egregious, preposterous!!!”
Yea I thought that would have been funny but the dopes in the audience so would not get it.
You know the left PC types would say " he isn't taking this seriously" if he did that even though it would be hilarious.
lol at 33:10 when no one laughs at opies joke about Gallagher
@J G yeah and how he acts like its a case closed after that amazing point
Ugh
I knew this comment would be here. No one even acknowledged him. Total bomb
Ants “ahh” 😂.
Man they REALLY wanted to say that word. Acting like they only want to say it for journalism integrity lolol
You don't diminish the power of a word by telling certain people that they aren't allowed to say it. You actually increase the power of that word when spoken by the undesirables.
Agreed 100%
100% true. The best way to depower the word is to not react to it, not make it taboo. If a racist uses the word and people just laugh at them, they'll soon realize the words has no effect.
I remember this, among the best of Opie and Anthony's sagas. Richards going absolutely ballistic is something to behold.
Love how they talk about how "cellphones will film everything"
Kramer's apology only made things worse for him.
that would have been awesome if he plugged a show after the apology lmaooo
haaaa underrated comment 🤙🏼
Yep. I would have lost it
As a person of colour, I could.t disagree moors with with Paul Monney more. A lot of shit he says is a bunch of dreck
Person of color? So you're Puerto Rican.
What you just said made me feel as if I was on mushrooms.
So what you end up with is a comic desperately trying to salvage a bit and failing.
i empathize with him tbh
NAW MAYNE IT'S JUSS RACIZM AND SHEEIT DASS IT MAYNE
+merces47letifer is this comment even fucking English Jesus no wonder why people use the word cause it fits perfectly for this comment ignorant
+Justin Wells I'm pretty sure that comment was written by some racist white dude trying to imitate what he thinks black people talk like
hisvorpalsword have you seen the video or jus heard people talk about it? cuz he was pissed,nd yelped that shit out loudly&angrily several times,,,,,wait have you not seen norton talk about it?
You can just feel Anthony's hatred for Paul Mooney in this...... fucking great
Dan Blunt I wouldn't say hatred.
59:12 totally missed an "anti dentite" reference opportunity
I love this O & A compilation, its so funny.
It was funny when opie said lift the ban he was just being a silly goose up there
2:54:53 the “apology” here always makes me laugh
“Hey I’m not racist, I just happen to enjoy black people less than my white friends” LMAOOO
34:22 “a white guy who does Chris Rocks material verbatim”....... oh man Michael Scott got away with it on The Office
What
He didn't get a way with it, he had to take sensitivity training. Honesty. Empathy. Respect. Openmindedness.
@@connortracey4536 castration
What a mountain of a man Patrice was. An absolute gentleman.
You may even say a supreme one
You can say that again.
LMAO I Love how everyone is somewhat checking out When mooney is on the phone, because it's like pulling teeth?
Technically Caucasian people did invent the wheel. Ancient Mesopotamia.
2:26:25 is when the whole anthony bleep bit goes. Funniest shit ever
2:45:35 this made me laugh harder than anything I’ve heard in years. 😂
3:49:11 for the Kramer Rap
Thanks for time stamping that.
You’re doing the lord’s work 🙏🏼
Thank you
That apology was the fucking worst. Jesus. Just man up and say 'hey I fucked up, things got out of hand and I didn't mean for it to go that direction' then offer to take those guys who walked out to dinner or something.
+TJP77 that'll be an awkward dinner.. cheque please!
Anthony with beep button had me tearing up. :D omg
The pictures for the vid are priceless
"Yetis are queer"

Crazy how time has changed. In todays time, the repercussions are far worse. This show was ahead of its time because it stood for everything society is trying to dismantle nowadays. Some of us may not want another O&A but we desperately need another O&A. Only time will tell. It’s a damn shame how much we have not progressed, in terms of free speech.
Oh ffs grow up 😂 there’s plenty of comedians and podcast that still champion dark humor and freedom of speech. You’re just living under a rock
Oh how Rogan’s tune has changed about censorship
Making millions has a funny way of changing a person's opinion
Such a good show thank u for for preserving this time in history, it shows . It trickles down.
On a lighter note.....thanks for the clip Jason!
7:22 - Opie's real voice
I love how he tried to channel Jerry, then Ant just saves the day
Hahahah
Paul Mooney makes a few good points....and then devolves in to typical black ranting.
Ironic that a racist tirade got Ant fired too when he used it in a time of passion.
The apology was so funny when Michael said Afro-Americans
😆 Yeah that was so bad
1:11:40 PATRICE LAUGHING KILLS ME!!!!
Patrice was just so funny. The biggest loss to comedy when he passed.
They are all Soying out in the thumbnail 😃🤪
2:53:00-2:54:40 the bleep bit is hilarious; as is Jimmy's reaction to a listener
4:34 "Which by the way gives the word so much more power... why are you *powering* these words..."
What a monumental dolt.
I laughed so hard when I heard that hahaha, “powering these words” thought that was so funny
46:47
“Very few words have that double standard.” -Jimmy
“You dating a black chick?” -Ant
“No, man!” Jimmy
Michael Richards should have taken that mop he had in the Weird Al film UHF and done his best Donatello impression in that laugh factory. Then introduce it to Jerry Sinfilled
This show was really something special. Just getting to know what a legend Patrice was. It sucks that he's gone.
Yeah, his apology was the worst
If he did that then even more people would pretend to be outraged.
Opie: They have Chinese stars. LMAO
I love them turning Jamies ban on the "N word" in the laugh factory to him banning black people! I could'nt stop laughing so much I can't remember who said it.
Tracy Morgan sounds like a black Tippy Tom
And the PC culture has gotten worse, and worse, and worse to where they attack retroactively for things said now.
It’s all just a vain shallow attempt at admiration.
“You’ve gotta push back on the lawyer” opie makes me wish I was never born to hear that tool talk.
Anthony is deftly hilarious in this. Amazing he isn't a comedian
@K W And they were apparently right, as when Anthony was in a roast years later, he bombed.
@@callumcowan7047 And the pests turned on him because he didn't know how to laugh at himself. All the misery he and his stupid brother could have avoided from Reddit, Twitter and other parts of the interwebs, all because he couldn't admit he was awful at the Big Jay Oakerson Roast.
In fairness too Antony he didn't have much stage time. It must be nerve wrecking for the first time. Antony for sure could of been a comic.
@@Mikehowarth1988 oh yeah one of the funniest people I've ever listened to and super quick wit. Just very sensitive when it came to that roast and his carpet bombing he laid down.
@@Lukey22Baby exactly. Comedians write material where as Anthony is hilarious of the cuff. He's naturally funnier than most comics.
