      @@NigelWoolleyaviation what is that lid that opens behind the canopy? I only seem to see it open on the versions that can do the vertical take off and landing.

    • @NigelWoolleyaviation
      @NigelWoolleyaviation  4 года назад

      @@esotericyetti327 You are correct with only the short take off and vertical landing F-35B's having the lid. That and another lid behind the cockpit both open to allow the lift fan to provide downward thrust when hovering (along with the rear engine pointing downwards) whereas the F-35A's are non hover conventional aircraft.

    Saturday 9th was my first time ever to see the F-35 in flesh. I have to say I was a little surprised by how it's actually a very small aircraft, especially next to the F-22. That fact was made even more apparent during the Heritage Flight when the F-35 flew past with the F-22. However, although the F-35 is new and shiny, I personally still think that the F-22 is the better looking of the two. The Raptor is a very beautiful aircraft.

    I don't know why people think that because F-35 is the most expensive and the newest, it must be the "biggest", the "fastest" and the "strongest".
    In war, there is no plane that can destroy an army by itself.
    The F-35 is one very useful tool for the American Airforce. And it makes the U.S. military really superior in air to ground and air to air combats, comparing the other countries.

    • @NigelWoolleyaviation
      @NigelWoolleyaviation  8 лет назад

      Pleased you were there to enjoy Dazza Yazza! Recording with vid camera is very challenging even with expensive tripods and plenty of space. I use a Canon legria HF G30 which is better than handicam but nowhere near some of the professional big toys I see at the airshows! I believe it is in the hands of the cameraman with a few inexpensive add ons eg use a monopod for low altitude and ground shots, apply stabilizer setting if your camera has that (but it can only do so much) Also some editing programs have post stabilize options (but they can only do so much as well). A viewfinder will provide more accuracy and great vision when outside rather than screen, which combined with eye contact on camera and two steady hands reduces shake more. Finally tight shots with aircraft are ridiculously difficult to get a stable shot so zoom out a little. Apart from that practice and trial I reckon. Wasn't thrilled with this footage as far as stability but an awesome day to watch. Cheers and good luck.

    • @nonamehere9149
      @nonamehere9149 8 лет назад

      Sort of true. The concept of the f-22 dates back to 1986. The first prototypes actually are very different than the fly away F-22 of today. the original concept wasn't packet with all the technology software and aviation suit. also the aircraft had a major airframe redesign as well. This is what drove the f-22 price to sky rocket from original cost. to this day, even as china J-20 and Russian T-50 (Pak-Fa) still lack in many critical areas.

    • @LeeeroyJenkems
      @LeeeroyJenkems 8 лет назад

      Fair point. What I meant was more in terms of raw performance/stealth. It is also just a bigger beast in terms of size...hence the name big daddy. The F-35 is far more advanced and will play a much larger role than the F-22 ever did or could.
      The people complaining about the F-35 are those that can't get over the days of dog fighting. Cold war era style.

      It IS the short and stubby version of the F-22 (i.e. a 5th Gen combat fighter). Just a lot more modern and a bit more advanced, electronics and materials wise. And of course, it's also designed for a different ground attack combat role (mostly) than the F-22.

    • @grabir01
      @grabir01 6 лет назад

      In war your can lose runways or need to set down anywhere you like. It can also take off vertically but uses a ton more fuel doing so which is why they mostly do short take offs.

    • @My-Opinion-Doesnt-Matter
      @My-Opinion-Doesnt-Matter 6 лет назад

      F35B is attack/strike fighter is build mostly for navy/marines to attack other countries from aircraft carrier, so if somebody destroys its runway (aircraft carrier) where will it land?
      And it's too heavy to take up vertically "combat ready", it can only do it without weapons and with low fuel, witch is useless, that's why it uses STOL instead of VTOL.

      If you were soldiers in the field about to get over ran by the enemy you can call for air support f-35 maybe 25 to 30 miles back but can get to you in 8 minutes boom you get to go home see your family again.

    F-35 got curves. She can definitely throw some curve-balls. I used to hate her. Lately, she's growing on me. F-16 and f-18 replacement? I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Still no replacement for the A-10, though.

    FYI a heritage flight is when modern fighters or other aircraft types fly with planes from the past, not with their contemporaries. Such as F-22 with P-51 or EF-2000 flying with Spitfire or F-16 flying with F-86. F-35 flying with F-22 EF-2000 and BAe Hawks is not a heritage flight. Last I checked the UKs heritage flight had a Lancaster, some Spitfires, and a Hurricane or two(maybe more), none of those were there so this is not a heritage flight.

      Thanks IJ for correction of terminology (and definitely a brain fade moment as I understand the heritage flight concept so no idea why I used that title!) In terms of recent formations at RIAT 18 some fantastic formations eg Tornado, F35 with Lancaster, F-35 P-51 with Spitfire plus an impressive seven ship BBMF flight (3 spitfires, two hurricanes, Lancaster and Dakota) Whilst I can't changethe title in the video thanks for noting. Cheers)

      No worries. I liked the video. It is very well done and edited and I liked seeing the RAF Lightning with the F-22, and liked seeing it with the Red Arrows. I wish the US teams did stuff like this alas, I doubt you'll ever see the F-22/35s flying with the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds.

    The problematic, single-seat jet was flying in good weather about 135 km (84 miles) east of the Misawa air base in Aomori Prefecture at about 7:27 p.m. (1027 GMT) on Tuesday when it disappeared from radar, and crash into the Pacific ocean, info released by Japanese Air Self Defense Force. This has reignite concern about the F-35 having only one engine while all the Trolls on RUclips defended the F35's single engine as even more reliable than twin engined Jet fighter! Flying so fast requires afterburners, which is basically dumping barrels of fuel into the exhaust part of the engine. Extremely inefficient. But worse, when you add armament like missiles and bombs to the outside of an old plane, you decrease the fuel efficiency again. It was a premature technology.

    I still don't get it, where is a "super-kick" in this plane... what so special about hovering over ground? Why is it takes such a long time to change from normal flight to hovering mode??? Does this in any way improved its battle-capabilities? If it takes very long time for this plane to takeoff or land using hovering mode, then what's the advantage at all???

    • @ogdocvato
      @ogdocvato 8 лет назад +2

      The advantage is that the F-35 can carry a B-61 mod. -12 thermonuclear bomb from austere bases and deliver it 1000km away with laser guided precision while in full stealth mode with the ability to defend itself from interceptors during ingerss and egress.

    Russian Yak_38 and could do the same "trick" of hovering about 35 years ago, boys, English Harrier even earlier... And in 1990, US bought-out or maybe not so but "something else" all tech documentation from another plane, Soviet Mig-141(you can check the youtube videos on all those), though the last one broke a lot of world records and could fly with supersonic speed, which you can't say about F-35. And Soviets didn't spend a "hair" of the price which US companies "consumed" for this plane. I don't quite get it, What so special about this machine?, except price spend on its development and "support fees". One of the most expensive plane ever built, but very questionable in capabilities so far.
