On The Hunt For Drug Smugglers And Illegal Goods | Best Of Customs | Real Responders

  • Inside a UK airport, a female passenger is caught smuggling in cigarettes more than the legal allowance. The suspect pretends to not know of the allowance but later admits she is a repeat offender in this crime. Elsewhere, custom officers stop passengers with suspicious baggage. A swipe of their belongings shows high traces of drugs. The officers must locate the drugs before they can charge the passengers with a crime.
At airports in England, customs agents check suspicious baggages and odd travellers to prevent illicit activity and substances from entering the UK. Officers pick out nervous passengers, and believing them to be drug mules, scan them for drugs. Sniffer dogs pick out illegal packages.

I have no stake in this, I am not a world traveler. I rarely leave my home due to illness. That being said, the one small red phone on a support pillar versus a huge “Nothing to Declare” point does definitely seem like a a trap. I say this having watched these going back to shortly after the Millennium, and they still haven’t changed it at UK, it is a trap, they don’t want you to declare or they would have made it far more visible. Exhausted travelers aren’t going to be alert enough to see the phone, and if they did, they would assume a red phone was reserved for security purposes, red being an indication not to touch.

To be honest, there is no excuse, the guy could have asked an officer “Where can I declare the over 4K tobacco I got over the legal limit” cos by now, everyone knows it’s 200, you can ask on the airport before flying, you can ask also if you’re not sure when you land, making visible or not, makes no exception as they should know they have to declare the goods. As someone that has to fly for work, everyday, I heard this excuses in the airport, even us that we sell Duty free we tell the passengers about the limit, and some of them buy 2-3 extra 200 packages saying they already know

Its not always even just who they drive for. They have to have special locks and ties on the back of trucks to show they weren't tampered with because criminals will sneak stuff inside and then tell their contact across the boarder what truck they need to get it out of. It can be SUPER dangerous for the driver because they usually will go to whatever lengths necessary to get their products back if they can't sneak it off of the trucks.

I think the point was the crew was moving the cigarettes around trying to confuse the customs officer, it was obstruction so they took the cigs to make a point.

It's really not the fact that they are cigarettes, it's the avoiding paying the TAXES per pack or carton. That's a LOT of revenue

Know that if you are black coming from or arriving from anywhere you will be singled out and stripped searched, especially if you properly declare nothing. So Sad the arian customs officers so overtly racist!
