Great information. I know there have been times where the motivation coming from the drummer gave me a boost when the boat started feeling heavy in a race.
First, you MUST have a sense of time! I'm a drummer, not a dragon boat drummer, but a musician drummer.and it drives me nuts when a dragon boat drummer is subtly out of time or inconsistent. The beat/pulse comes right at the full catch. I've even yelled out during a race (now! now! now!) at a bad drummer to try to get them to drum correctly.

Love this. Many teams and coaches don’t give enough credit and emphasis on the drummer but a good drummer on a good team is a difference-maker.
